Heya,

This might have already been suggested, but going by what RC explains in SOD, and the real reasons the Dark One's interested in shifting the rifts to places he desires, ie to force the other gods to make things more fair for goblinoid and monstrous humanoids, has it occured to anyone else that he doesn't actually need to move or control the rifts at all?

We've seen that just the one rift naturally grows wider over time unchecked, and even one left unguarded will eventually allow the snarl to break free. Once the snarl breaks free, it will presumably utterly devour/destroy the current created world and all of it's inhabitants, making them beyond the possibility of ressurection or other return.

That being the case, to "level" the playing field, in theory instead of relying on this overly complex plan to try to control one of the seals and shift the gate around, to -possibly- force the gods to act in your favor, why not let the snarl loose and level everything?

As was previously mentioned by RC in his explanation, this is the "back up" plan, while although everyone currently living would be utterly destroyed, the dark one would be around for the new creation of the world, and able to make things more balanced.

But, here's a crazy idea, with the foreknowledge that the world -will- be obliterated by the snarl, The Dark one has his high priest gather the masses of his people together in a small area, where death/suicide spells are cast. The majority of the goblinoid/humanoid population dies of unnatural causes. A spell is cast over the remains to seperate a tiny granual from each individual corpse, these and the Dark One's high priest are transported via plane shift or some other means to the Dark One's celistial realm, at the same time triggering a reaction that makes the snarl notice the open doorway. All the planets living inhabitants are destroyed utterly. The gods band together to chain the snarl again, recreate the world. The Dark one of course helps this time.

After the world is remade, and all the other gods peoples begin anew as level 1's, the Dark one planeshifts his high priest to the new world, with the granules, and uses him to focus an epic mass ressurection spell. The goblinoid peoples are restored, keeping all levels, knowledge, and of course, numbers.

Now that's what I call level.

So do you think something like this has crossed the Dark One's mind?

The snarl threatens all planes of existence. So it would not only unmake the current world but would unmake anything and everything.

I'd not even be sure if the gods were not just lucky last time when they were able to hide from it.

The "best" course of action would be to allow The Dark One control over the gates (ALL gates), then the goblins get a fair share of the world and THEN can the dark one do one very smart thing: Move the rifts via the gates to a plane "where no one is" (no mortals, no gods). That would remove the rifts and the threats they pose from the reach of mortals.

With true ressurection he wouldn't need any part of the corpses, however the question is if the other gods would allow him to cheat in this way. He is grossly outnumbered and if his allies among the evil elder gods won't support him this time he could end being slain by the enraged good elder gods.
