Man naked mole rats are ugly. Cool (mammalian hives REPRESENT!), but damn ugly.

Rawhide: I know two of those straight off (rambutans (is that the same as a lychee?) and dragonfruit), and I recognise the mangosteens. With all these fruit pictures, I'm hanging out to see one that will help me identify the fruit tree some friends used to have... (the fruits looked kinda like that last picture, except I think they're mostly bright red or orange)

edit: Wait, cumquat? :smallconfused: They're like teeny little oranges or mandarines, I've never seen them drop-shaped like that, and those ones look too big.

Actualy i think that last one is some sort of dwarf mango.
Look at the leaves. Either someone is laying their fruit in a bed of Oleander leaves or its mango.

For the record Oleander is extremely toxic and in at least one case in the antebellum south was used in a cake to kill children.

That's a persimmon, right? We've got those in the US, too, or at least in the South. We used to have a big persimmon tree on our property, before the government cut it down and built a road where it used to be. My great-grandma (before I was born) used to get them when they were ripe and make persimmon pudding, or so my mom says - she's been trying to find either someone to make one or a place that has a similar recipe for years.

Okay then, here's a blast of local flavor, just for you. You and everyone else who wants to try guessing names.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2399/2482089649_cedfb6e541_o.jpg
First off, a fruit so exotic, Wikipedia doesn't even recognize it by its common name! So unless you're prepared to do a google trawl, or know its scientific name by heart, have fun searching for the article (I know I didn't).

AKA: The fruit looks and tastes almost exactly like a grapefruit (the ones with pink flesh anyways, not this yellow fleshed impostor), but is the size of a bowling ball. And about as heavy as one too.

http://www.decofleur.com/images/decofleur2/71900J.jpg
AKA: The fruit that could star in a horror movie all of its own. It's got the name and everything!
Huh. Rawhide posted these on the first page.

http://wwwdelivery.superstock.com/WI/223/1566/X0505/PreviewComp/SuperStock_1566-0191432.jpg
AKA: The fruit that's like 99% GIANT SEED and 1% actual fruit.

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/91/223748853_315f3ab039.jpg
AKA: The fruit that looks EXACTLY THE SAME as the last one, until you open it up and realize why the grocer was laughing at you when you brandished these at her face and asked how much for a kilo of [previous fruit]

AKA: The fruit that's like 99% GIANT SEED and 1% actual fruit.
A type of lychee? Looks pretty familiar.

Serp gets half a cookie. They're Rose Apples.

And yes, they are similar to Lychees. Taste similar and have the first letter in their name and everything.

Hmm... I'm gonna go ahead and guess that they are...

Mutant Apples from Outer Space II, the Return of the Revenge. With a Vengeance. Part II, the Get-Backening.

I was sitting on a beach one sunny day
When I saw a funny figure heading my way.
He walked across the golden sand
with a twin-finned surfboard in his hand.

It was a wombat, yeah, yeah, yeah
A wombat, yeah, yeah, yeah,
A wombat, yeah, yeah, yeah,
A wombat on a surfboard.

He threw off his thongs and his sunnies too
And headed out for the ocean blue.
He waded through the breaking spray
Hopped on his board and paddled away.

It was a wombat, yeah, yeah, yeah
A wombat, yeah, yeah, yeah,
A wombat, yeah, yeah, yeah,
A wombat on a surfboard.

He waited where the big waves soar
For a wave to take him back to shore.
There was a good one he could use
So he jumped on his board and he started to cruise.

It was a wombat, yeah, yeah, yeah
A wombat, yeah, yeah, yeah,
A wombat, yeah, yeah, yeah,
A wombat on a surfboard.
A wombat on a surfboard!

Does he crawl
Is he tall?
Does he come complete?
My forum forum angel, always pulled me from my seat
He was hairless like a potato, not a bit of hair
When I saw my angel, I couldn't help but stare
Years go by, I'm looking through a bizarre forum thread
And there's my hairless mole rat, in a multi-photo spread

I can't make a sound, my memory's brought back to the ground
My mole-rat's in the Playground
