Insano 7- Stairway to Heaven

Welcome to Insanowar

Da Rules:

1.) There are five players, each of which represent a commander of their army.

2.) Each player takes turns choosing some powerful character, semi-powerful group of characters, or large mob of expendable non-characters from any sort of media. Examples: The TMNTs, a Dreadnought from 40K, a mob of kobolds.

3.) When each player has 10 selections, the game begins.

4.) A map will be provided showing the layout of the battlefield. Each person will have a base of operations with which they can wage war. Note that each base is about 2 turns away from each other.

5.) A static turn order is established. In each turn, the player dictates what their troops are doing, as far as the opponent can see. Secret actions need not be reported (although it is good sportsmanship to give hints as to what your are planning).

6.) When troops engage, the person whose turn the engagement took place on decides the outcome, which will usually NOT be all one way. If there is any friendly dispute (and the dispute WILL be friendly, or else), other players/playgrounders chime in with their opinions. If no consensus is reached, it's a 50/50 slaughter.

7.) The winner is the one who wins.

Da Guidelinez:

1.) You can't choose anyone TOO powerful. No gods, demigods, anything like that. Make it something that's about the same power level as the other troops on the field.

2.) Don't be a jerk. The objective here is to have fun--frankly, who wins and who loses is pretty arbitrary anyway. This game is definitely straddling the line between Silly and Structured.

3.) Respect Awesomeness. If a player is pulling off something that's just too awesome to believe, that should aid his victory.

4.) Enjoy yourself. Seriously, guys.

8. Ashling the flamekin, from the M:tG Lorwyn block Living fire and rock.

9. A selection of characters from Remnants: Jobs, Mo'Steel, Tate, Violet, Edward, and a Blue Meanie.
Tate can eat things and absorb their minds, but is usually just a normal person. Edward fades into the background and becomes transparentish. Violet is infested by flesh eating alien worms with weird abilities. (She'd be the strongest one). The Blue Meanie is a catlike alien in power armor. Jobs and Mo are just people.

10. An Exodus squad: 25 soldiers, 60 officers, and 35 technicians, currently nanomorphed into 5 leamo heavy laser tanks, from the game Perimeter. They can turn into various different things. Nostalgia Critic wrinkled his nose, pupils dilating as his senses refused to believe what they were taking in. "Oh...kay. Why does our base stink worse than Garbage Pail Kids?"

Dresden sighed. "Well, let's look at the facts, shall we? Our troops consist of a guy who smells like sulfur, a bunch of sick/dead guys, some people with British dental hygiene..."

"Hey!"

"Some kinda undead dog things, a smoking dragon, a demon, and...seriously, man, when was the last time you bathed? Or washed that trenchcoat?"

JC shrunk a little, wounded. "I've been busy, okay? I haven't even slept in, like, 36 hours."

Dresden sighed. "And I think I broke the fancy water-pump system. Damn gestalt field."

AVGN groaned, taking a long swig of Rolling Rock. "Look, enough f***ing around, here. Can we get to killing things?"

"Watch your language," Diablo growled.

Abruptly, Dresden jabbed a finger down at the very large map that lay before them. "Okay, moving along. We can attack Codename DS7 here, and Codename UF here. Not many other avenues of attack, unless we want to slog it up. Transportation?"

There was an awkward pause.

More silence.

"Like, a ship?"

After a moment, Faith spoke.

"Guys! What the hell is going on here!?" Zidane asks entering the command tent. Everyone looks up to see what he is talking about. Vivi and Garnet are practicing magic. Good size holes are burned into the roof, as well as a few busted objects.

Steiner is trying to get past Dante's guard who is blocking every attack without breaking a sweat. He was also watching the duel between Vivi and Garnet. This seemed only to anger Steiner more, whose face was already red.

Chico was making a joke about zombies with his brothers, and Alucard smiled to himself from across the room. I like those guys. Their funny. Maybe I won't kill him.

Instantly Zidane took command. "Vivi! Garnet! take it outside! Steiner! Stop trying to get hurt yourself! Alucard! Stop thinking about killing people!"

Steiner fumbled his sword. His anger directed at Zidane. Before he got the chance, Dante kicked him from behind, sending him flying into the tent wall, then through it. Crashes could be heard from outside. Zidane palmed his head. How the hell did he get stuck with these people?

He looked up to only stare into Alucard's eyes. "I wasn't thinking of killing anyone." he said matter of factly. Both contendants kept staring, and Zidane felt hi brain go cloudy. What? Wait...

He looked away and closed his eyes. "Stop doing that!" he shouts. He only chuckles and puts his glasses back on."Party pooper.." Garnet says quietly to herself. Alucard put on his glasses and spoke to her. "I can change that." Evil thoughts spread across her mind with the possibilites.

"Guys! Can we actually do something productive today!?" Zidane cries throwing his hands up in the air. "Wait where's Zeratul?" Eyes peeked out of the corner. "I'm here." he says. "Where?" Zidane asks. "Here." he says.

"Where's here!?" Zidane ass his patience gone.

Zeratul thinks for a moment. "Here." he says.

Zidane gives up. "Okay stay there." He pulls out a mapand is about to spread it out on the table when he notices all the junk food there. "Garnet what did i say about eating so much." "ooooooh's fill the room. Zidane looks confused. "What?" Garnet walks over and kisses him on the lips. "you screwed up." she says simply.

A resounding slap filled the room, quickly followed by Garnet leaving. There's a moment silence quickly followed by the brothers cracking up and making fun of the red hand print on Zidane's cheek. Alucard comes over. "I may be dead, but even I have more common sense then you." With that he leaves as well.

As he passes through, Steiner enters, his armor dirty and bent. His face is even more red. He starts yelling at Dante who's chilling against the wall, ignoring the words.

"Shut up Steiner." Zidane says, now clearly annoyed. Steiner turns to him ready to yell at him when he notices the handprint. Then his yelling starts about manhandling the princess. He would have his head cut off!

Zidane gave up now, his limit gone, and left the tent. Steiner followed after him, still yelling.

The rest watched the preceeding quietly. Zeratul spoke up after a moment. "so um does this mean i can go?"

"sure." Dante says.

There's a rustling noise in the corner.

"ummm. i can't" Zeratul says after a moment. The others stare at the corner he is in. "why not?" Groucho asks.

"i don't like the sunlight..."

The three brothers crack up at this, and for the rest of the morning, they make fun of Zidane and Zeratul.

Also, sorry for setting up such a complex backstory here, but the character of Samuel Vimes doesn't work if he doesn't have SOME sort of orders.))

Sir Samuel Vimes, Commander of the City Watch, leaned back in his chair, feet propped up on his paperwork-covered desk. He sighed, closing his eyes. "Let me get this straight, Captain. I came to this god-forsaken island off the coast of Forecks as a diplomat. A diplomat! I was supposed to talk to these four nutjobs, calm them down, and go home. And now, now…" He waved his hand, somehow taking in with one expansive gesture the other armies, the fortresses, the battlefield, and the island's total lack of decent food. "What was Vetinari thinking? I mean, sure, send me to negotiate, but he sent me with a gods-damned army! What was I supposed to do?"
"Well, to be fair, sir, he only sent you about thirty bodyguards," said Captain Carrot, standing at attention in front of Vimes' desk.
"Bodyguards," muttered Vimes. "Of course he'd call them that."
"What was that, sir?"
"Nevermind." Sam Vimes sighed again, swung his feet off the desk, and pulled a sheet of paper out of the pile. "Ok, let's get a look at this army. Let me see… we've got five of the Watch's finest –"
A massive, craggy shape pushed down the door and hunched his way in. "Reportin' fer duty, sir," rumbled Detritus. As he stepped inside, he revealed the formerly-eclipsed shapes of a fat soldier, a lithe, muscular woman with long blond hair, and a… well, what can only be described as a Nobbs. Vimes nodded.
"Right, good to see all of you. Next, the senior staff of Unseen University, and… an Agatean accountant?" Vimes stared at the sheet in shock, but looked up as four wizards dashed into the room and leapt behind Detritus. Following them was a fifth, far more lanky wizard with the word "wizzard" spelled out on his hat with sequins. A box with hundreds of tiny legs trotted behind the wizzard, growling at the other cowering wizards. Finally, a bespectacled Agatean accountant walked inside, waving jovially at Vimes. Finally, and orangutan lumbered in, nodded to Vimes, and joined the other wizards.
Sam raised an eyebrow. "… right then. Next we have the Silver Horde, whoever they are, and – Ahmed? How did Vetinari get you on the job?"
Six ancient barbarian heroes shuffled – or, in one case, wheeled – their way inside, grumbling incessantly and followed by a nearly as ancient teacher. Behind them, a tall, dark skinned warrior strode up to Vimes' desk. "I have a debt to repay to Vetinari, Commander. I'm here to do just that."
Vimes shrugged. "Fair enough." His eyes scanned down the list, and then widened in shock. "Oh no," he said. "Vetinari sent Dibbler."
As if on cue, a scruffy salesman carrying a tray of meat-like products walked in, an even scruffier dog trotting at his heels. "Sausage inna bun, sir? So fresh the pig ha'nt noticed it's gone! Two dollars, and that's cutting me own throat!"
"No thank you, Throat. Er… do us all a favor and sell your sausages to the other side, would you?"
"My pleasure!" said Throat, grinning like a maniac.
"Alright, next we've got… oh gods… a pair of bloody bloodsuckers?"
"Vampires, sir" said Constable Reg Shoe reproachfully, as a crowd of assorted undead followed him into the room. "Well, vampires and zombies and ghouls and werewolves and boogeymen, to be exact."
Vimes shook his head. "Whatever, as long as you can deal with them, Reg. Now, lastly is Leonard de Quirm." He looked up, peered down the hallway… nothing. "Or not, I guess. Well then, let's get started. Reg, take your freakshow with Angua and Detritus and set up a perimeter. Fred, Nobby… make sure nobody steals the gate. CMOT, go find some enemies to sell sausages to. Carrot, Genghiz, Ahmed, and Ridicully, stay up here to discuss strategy. Everyone else, just do your thing."
As most of the troops filed out of the command room, two monks dashed in. "Vimes! Thank the gods I've found you!"
"… Sweeper?" said Vimes in disbelief.
"Yes, yes, it's me. But… look, whatever's going on here, it's playing havoc with the timestream! We've got to stop this!"
"What are you talking about?"
"Look, everyone here isn't supposed to be here. They've been plucked from across space and time, and they're going to destroy all of history!"
"Well, what do you want me to do about it?"
"Just… stop them. If we can defeat them all, we can send them back to where they need to be. But until then…"
"Right, right. Well, I can do that. Now then, gentlemen," Vimes said, beckoning to the other four, "let's talk strategy…"

Thirty feet below them, Leonard de Quirm sat in the basement, tinkering happily. "Would you mind passing me a three-eighths Gripley?"
"Of course," rumbled Schleppel the Bogeyman, passing the desired wrench.
"Thanks!" said Leonard happily, and went back to tinkering.

"Who the hell blew up the gate!? Vivi!!!! Garnet!!!!" Zidane yelled at the top of his voice. Vivi shuffled his feet. "I didn't mean too... i didn't think it would happen..."

Garnet hits him over the head. "oh stop it already. It came from bill2damax's base." she said, glaring at Zidane. His cheek was still red, but the handprint wasn't there anymore.

"Send the Oompa Loompas." Zidane said, after a moment. "and then have Zeratul and his people go during the night. I got a perfect idea. They blew up our gate, we'll get rid of theirs as well."

And so it was said, and so it happened.

From around the bill2damax's fortress, singing could be heard, but no one could be seen. A melody (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qw0zZttfUaw)also came out of thin air to accompany them.

Angua slides into her wolf form, feeling the tension in the forest air around her. The forest sounds, smells, tastes...wrong. Unnatural.

More than anything, she smelled fire, and burnt wood. Yes...burnt wood...

She focused, feeling the edge of something different. No, that wasn't burnt material. That was brimstone.

She barked pointedly at Detritus, who dutifully closed his eyes while she changed back.

She jerked on her uniform, glancing around the forest. "I don't like this place. We should head back to the base and report...something's coming. Something bad."

Detritus nodded sagely. "Dat sounds good to me."

He turned, trudging off in the general direction of the base. Angua, still in the state where all the senses glowed like flames, froze.

"Wait...there's something else...kind of like...plague..."

She heard the piercing shriek a moment too late to act.

Out of the woods, a Hunter soared like an angel of death, smashing against Angua and bearing her to the ground. His claws scrabbled at her armor, wearing blood-filled grooves in the iron...

...before Angua reacted.

With a sickening lurch, her body changed, wolf form thrashing against the Hunter and rolling him to the side. They tore and gashed at one another, tumbling in a gory shower through the clearing.

Detritus, reaction delayed, tossed aside his Piecemaker and thundered to Angua's aid...

Before hearing another thundering from behind.

Ponderously, he turned around--just in time to see the Tank's fist swinging into his face.

Detritus staggered, feet gouging tracks in the forest floor as he struggled to remain upright. The Tank, growling an obscene laugh, swung a second fist.

Detritus caught it.

The look on the Tank's face was something you'd pay good money to see. From a safe distance.

Detritus laid a punishing right cross on the Tank's face, cracking his facial muscles and causing the Tank to stumble back. Detritus turned, racing to Angua's aid.

Angua didn't seem to need it much. The Hunter, master grappler though he was, was little match for a raging werewolf. His body was already marked by multiple glancing bites and lacerations, ones that would incapacitate an ordinary human but seemed only to aggravate him. Scrabbling frantically, he managed to get a glancing claw against Angua's throat...just in time for Angua to latch her jaws onto his neck and neatly twist his head off.

Detritus grinned.

It was about at that moment that the Tank hurled the fallen tree into the pair of them.

The noise as the tree trunk hit the pair of them was almost too loud to be heard. There was a storm of released energy and flying splinters, and when the cloud cleared, Angua was pinned beneath and Detritus lay, stunned, on his haunches.

Chuckling grotesquely, the Tank barreled into Detritus.

Angua could only watch and howl as the Tank leapt bodily onto Detritus, holding him down with one obscene fist and battering him relentlessly with the other. Time and again, the gnarled hammer came down, falling in an arc of stone splinters and gurgled snarling. Within seconds, Detritus was motionless, although the Tank did not cease attacking until Detritus's head was separated entirely from his shoulders.

Angua watched in horror as it dropped, frozen, onto the ground by her side. She hardly noticed the Tank vanishing into the woods ahead. She only just registered the figure approaching, an emaciated hound-beast with ornate headdress and wickedly curved sickle.

With barely a word, he brought the blade down on her neck.

The silver blade.

Nobby and Colon watched, awestruck, as a horde of Anubis creatures charged towards the gate at breakneck speed...

Status:

All of my Anubis warriors are charging towards Uncle Festy's gate.

The Tank is somewhere in the woods outside of your base.

The Witch, who was standing guard in the woods, was obliterated by the Piecemaker. Cr0wned, indeed.

The vendetta soars toward the Anubis creatures, now that they're in the open.
Ashling and Thirsha are close behind it.
The charging creatures start to feel the wind dragging at them, then slowing them, until they're finally stopped in their tracks, unable to move.
Good work Thirsha. Fire!
A storm of bolts and spears flies down from the ship towards them. As the wind stops and they start to recover, blasts of fire come down and pick off the ones who are left.

The ship turns back towards its base.

The summers start burrowing towards the center of the map.

The others keep waiting.

Festy said that Detritus was aiming at forest. I imagine the map to be fairly sparse bushland, with a few trees, but enough room to maneouvre say, a motorbike, but not a car.

… hm. Do note that, while Angua's nose isn't best while she's human, it's still good enough that I doubt it would be easy to jump her in any event. Plus Detritus was about 50% of my pick's power, if that wasn't clear, so I'm not sure a Tank would be able to take him out. Maybe, though.
Also a clarification on distances – I was trying to set them up a ways away from the base, but still not outside my base's general area.
I'd rather not argue about, you know, everything, and it was an awesome scene, but I thought I'd just bring it up if we're cataloguing confusions about that scene.
And plus, if there was a small copse of forest there, it probably got turned into a pile of burning splinters. :smallwink:

The first one--there's some disorientation directly after shifting--you could always chalk it up to that. As for Detritus, he's probably about equal in strength to the Tank--keep in mind this is someone who can rip up chunks of pavement at will to use as missiles, punt cars large distances, and break through reinforced steel doors (safe rooms) with a few wild punches.

Didn't really know how big the forest was--maybe we should note, in the future, that all geographical landmarks should be noted on the map.

As the moon rose into the sky, Zidane gave the signal. Dante, Alucard, Seras, Zeratul, and his templars went into the woods towards bill2damax's gate. Garnet and Steiner led the small attack party. It wasn't very nice to blow someone's gate to hell. At the moment, the mime and Vivi put up a temporary gate until a new one could be built.

The monkies flew above the small group, scouting ahead and looking for enemies. If all went well, they would be at his base by midnight.

Alright troops, We aren't going as fast as we could be without you two, He nods to the dinosaurs. So we're not out of trouble yet. One of our opponents has already taken the bait, and we need to be further away than this when they spring the trap. Leia, you stick with the light warriors and the Italian. Be ready. Uh, gypsies? You stay in the back with the apes and the spiders. The bucculus can ride the dinosaurs, to speed things up. Ivain will lead with myself and Anakin.
Then they head off, with one or two grumbles from princess Leia.
