I have a homebrew item idea I'd like to give to a DM.

I have a Shadowdancer with levels in Rogue, Fighter, and Assassin that I am making. As he has Darkvision, I want to give him a magic item he can use that can make light not go far from it's source, and 3/day, end any magical light effects, all within a 100 foot area of the user.

The peculiar wording of ''make light not leave it's source'' is basically so that it can't be used to put out a bonfire, but it can blind everyone around one to their surroundings. Most light sources that are nonmagical are going to be heat/fire/flame based.

The question is essentially what would you price this at. It's not going to hurt the enemy directly and it won't blot out the sun - light sources that are more than 100 feet away will basically continue to shed light over the area without impediment.

It will, however, end light indoors or in the dead of night.

I'd use the DMG to figure out the cost of an item that can generate a 3/day Darkness effect, and just eyeball it a little up or down, whatever you judge to be appropriate.

Edit: Possibly a Deeper Darkness effect.
