To settle this minor dispute, look carefully at V's arms in Panels #13 and #14. Her left arm (the one behind Xykon) is definitely in a different position in each of these panels. Paralyzed, that would not happen.

So we've put that to bed.

I think a better concern is if V is still alive. There is a sound when Xykon grabs hir around the throat. If that was hir throat getting crushed then paralysis can't occur.

That being said, D&D doesn't have rules for that kind of kill AFAIK.

Not specifically, but the suffocation (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/environment.htm) rules (or even the ones for Crisis of Breath (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/crisisofBreath.htm)) can easily be adopted here. I don't see O-Chul having more than 3 rounds to do something to help V.

No X-eyes = Not dead. Probably unconscious or barely above negative hit points, after being blasted and strangled. In another round or two, V would be dead of strangulation though.

Actually, that raises a pretty good question. Is there any particular chart for damage from strangling?
Edit: Ninja'd! Although I would think maybe there's a strength bonus involved or something, because even with a constitution of 10, V would survive for at least 23 rounds if ve failed the first save.

This is stick art. A theory supported by the art is not supported well, and often enough not at all.

Besides, from the "motion" lines, it looks like Xykon isn't just strangling V, but also shaking him/her.

No Xs. Not dead. Eyes open, in fact. Paralyzed? Maybe. I don't think so, but it's not impossible.

EDIT: As for shaking V, we know lich-paralyzed people go stiff, so V's arms shouldn't move even if V is being shaken. Also, I don't think paralyzed people can "...". Also, any paralysis should have happened as soon as V was touched. Eyes move after that. Not paralyzed.

And those X's over the eyes don't actually mean that Jirix is dead, right? That's just "art". So is the spear through him, for that matter. Maybe O-Chul actually served him tea? So, sure, according to our new theory that Rich pays no attention to visual cues in his comic strip, we can now disregard that the only other two cases of paralysis shown in OOTS made sure to have the arms not move.

Good grief. That's a Hall of Fame quote.

How did V fail on a DC 10 concentration check? And besides, O-chul attacks Xykon, Xykon drops V to respond, V can breathe. TA-DA!:smalltongue:
