SOCIAL WORKERS FOR MAD SCIENCE! (http://www.webcomicsnation.com/shaenongarrity/skinhorse/series.php)

Yeah, that about sums it up. Skin Horse is a comic by Shaenon K. Garrity and Jeffrey Channing Wells, about the social workers (of the "Skin Horse" division) assigned to help the sentient products of mad science. Its a really cool comic, with some excellent humor and action, which you should definitely check out.

I'm kind of confused about the current storyline. How does Sweetheart know these people? Were they like his lab-mates or something?

I loved Narbonic, and I've been following Skin Horse since the first strip. At the moment I still probably rate Narbonic a bit higher, but that might be because it's complete :smallwink:; I'll need a few more Skin Horse arcs before making a definitive judgement. Skin Horse is a great comic though, and I also recommend checking it out.

As far as the current arc goes: (spoiler for those who haven't read the strip)

...those are Sweetheart's pack. This is just my take from the discussions revealed thus far and so could be entirely wrong, but Sweetheart was part of a pack of super-intelligent dogs (wolfhounds? Not sure of the breed) raised by a Canadian called "Captain Fancy" who wanted to conquer the U.S. I'm pretty sure the pack turned and ate him, though. :smallwink: Sweetheart split from the pack to head to the U.S. and eventually join Skin Horse, although exactly why hasn't to my knowledge been revealed yet.

I thought the pack respectfully ate him after an untimely demise that they did not directly cause. But yeah, Sweetheart has now been reunited with her siblings from the Captain's insane experimentations.

Ah, that would make sense. I was pretty sure that they ate him, but they still do seem to hold Captain Fancy with regard. I wasn't sure how to connect the dots.

(Actually, it was Captain Bram who made them. Sweetheart's full name is Captain's Fancy Valentine Sweetheart (http://www.webcomicsnation.com/memberimages/sh080722for_cia_training.jpg), emphasis on the apostrophe-'S')

Okay, I have been looking, yeah.

Here (http://www.webcomicsnation.com/memberimages/sh080612he_was_getting.jpg) (and here (http://www.webcomicsnation.com/shaenongarrity/skinhorse/series.php?view=archive&chapter=29598#strip5)'s the full week, for such people) Sweetheart talks about how she was made to conquer the United States and impose Canadian ideals upon it. Here (http://www.webcomicsnation.com/memberimages/sh080628he_fit_best.jpg), the next week (http://www.webcomicsnation.com/shaenongarrity/skinhorse/series.php?view=archive&chapter=30589), she says that the pack respectfully ate good ol' Captain Bram, without saying anything about how he actually died (This is referenced again later, and in an early of the current Alaskan arc, with no further confirmation or denial). She left the pack because she apparently didn't want to grovel (http://www.webcomicsnation.com/memberimages/sh080630he_was_a.jpg).

And that's all I can find without digging through every comments section and avoiding Sunday Art Pages. If I was unlazy enough to do it, I might find more in the Word of God.

My god, I'm turning into Oracle Hunter.

Crud. I could actually remember the gist of the full name, but I would have sworn it was Captain Fancy's Valentine Sweetheart. Guess I need a better memory. Or I was suckered in by how great the name "Captain Fancy" sounds.

My god, I'm turning into Oracle Hunter.
Nah, you've got a long way to go yet. First you've got to know more about the webcomic story than the original writer.

Oh good. I get to keep being the Fullbladder.

Plus, y'know, Skin Horse is easier to cohesively Archive Binge than Dominic Deegan. Even if you do have to keep going to main page to go to the next week in the archives.

Thanks for the reply, although I realized I was being really stupid. I seem to have missed all of last weeks strips.:smallsigh::smallredface:

If you were Oracle Hunter, you would've had at least five links to TVTropes in that post.

<<This was still within the first three pages so it ain't Thread Necromancy :smalltongue:>>

Tip was just elected Alpha?? :smallconfused:

That...

That was unexpected. Though since this is coming from the people who gave us Narbonic and A Brief Moment of Culture, maybe I should stop being surprised at what happens in this strip. :smallcool:

I do still wonder how they're going to "cure" Tip. Unless, of course, Status Quo ISN'T God (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StatusQuoIsGod). :smalltongue: But it seems to me that Tip being a werewolf can't be a permanent fixture of the comic. But I am some what at a loss as to figuring out who Tip gets out of this mess.

No I am NOT bumping this solely to restart discussion on this fantastic comic. Honest. Really. ... Okay, maybe a little. :p

I wouldn't be surprised if it was intentionally added as an extra character trait for Tip's to retain the rest of the comic. Narbonic had an awful lot of shape-changing in it, after all. :smallwink:

This thread doesn't get enough love. And the bacon gag made my entire day.

Great. Now I'm going to have those awful Beggin' Strips commercials (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CErapf79rqM) stuck in my head all day long.

Thanks for nothing, Team Skin Horse. :smallannoyed:

Is lycanthropy in skin horse just at the full moon, or every night? That would seriously put a crimp in Tip's social life.

I think that's a bug on the entire website - you encounter it at about the same frequency if you read the Director's Cut of the artist's previous webcomic, Narbonic (http://www.webcomicsnation.com/shaenongarrity/narbonic/series.php?name=narbonic&view=current), and it's on the same site.

I think the people who made the template for the webpages just never intended for any strip on their site to be as popular as those webcomics are.

Well, you CAN just click on the bottomost strip of each display "lump" of strips and it sends you to the next clump of them.

However, to do so, you need to scroll past three hundred kilometers of comments.

Or, you know, just press the "end" button on your keyboard. :smalltongue:

(tho I admit having the Navigational Arrows [which work just fine for me, BTW :smallconfused:] on the top of the page might be nice :smallwink:)

The comments are all clustered after each batch of strips on my display. I just click on the bottom strip and it moves me forward. I didn't even know those navigational arrows existed until Porthos mentioned them just now, and I honestly can't say they're more convenient.

Thanks to the placement on the web page, no, it really isn't more convient.

However the Drop Bar Menu directly above those arrows that lets one jump directly to any given week of strips is fairly convient for me.

I just wish both of them were near the top of the webpage. Or, at the very least after the last set of comics.

The wall-o-comments is probably the single least appealing "feature" of the site. Lé sigh.

It appears that half the fanart seems to be of Unity.

Also, bizarre shapeshifting cliff hanger! What are they looking so surprised at?

Unity had never seen Tip naked until now. And, all undead bioweapon she is, she's still a girl. Look at what she's staring in the third panel. And of course, the punchline refers back to this (http://www.webcomicsnation.com/shaenongarrity/skinhorse/series.php?view=archive&chapter=40132&name=skinhorse).

Huh.

I was sorting wondering if the whole Julie thing would be revisited. Though I am kinda curious how Tip knows it's her. :smallwink:

EDIT:: Actually as I think about it, it's probably just Tip using Logical Deduction. He probably thinks that's the only werewolf that would burst on the scene that would want to save him and his friends.

On the other hand, it would be like Skin Horse just to randomly introduce a bunch of Good Werewolves.

....

On the other other hand, maybe Tip recognizes certain... moves.... from Julie that she has even in Wolf Form. :smalltongue:

Tip has a perfect babedar. Once he cares enough about a woman to know her name, he always knows her name, even after she goes through horrible transformations.
