Dwarf Fortress: Adventurer Mode

Yet another Dwarf Fortress thread (yippee)! This one, however, is about Adventurer mode. Specifically, how to survive, how to fight megabeasts, and how to shop.
Or, more accurately, this thread is about asking how to do these things :smalltongue:

To begin, I like slashing weapons most. Anyone else have a preference?

I reckon to beat adventure mode:
Step 1) Build a massive fortress.
Step 2) Make adamantine weapons and armour
Step 3) Go into said fortress in adventure mode, and find said weapons and armor.
Step 4) Kill everything.
Step 5) ???

One fun thing is that if you have artifacts in containers(i.e. bins), they are copied whenever you an adventurer removes them from the bin. In this way, you can arm a dozen adventurers in a row with the same artifact weapon.
