The Master Transmuter

This prestige class was created with the background that the transmuters invented metamagic since back in AD&D the "Extension" spells belonged to the Alteration (Transmutation) school.
I started with the Incantatrix, took some ideas from the Red Wizard and some ideas from myself about what a specialist transmuter should be able to do.

The most significant difference to the Incantatrix and the Red Wizard is that the Master Transmuter doesn't lose access to another school of magic but I think that this can be balanced with other comparable weaker class features.

Class Features

Improved identification: +4 bonus (instead of +2) on spellcraft checks when dealing with a spell or effect from the transmutation school and a +2 bonus on spellcraft checks when dealing with metamagic. These boni stack.

Greater Spell Focus: At 2nd level a master transmuter gains Greater Spell Focus (Transmutation) as a bonus feat.

Transmutation Defense: A Master Transmuter gains a bonus on saving throws against transmutation spells. this bonus starts at +1 at 3rd level and increases to +2 at 7th level.

Bonus Metamagic Feat: At 4th and 8th level, the master transmuter may select a bonus metamagic feat.

Transmutation Power: At 5th level, a Master Transmuter gains a bonus that increases his effective caster for purposes of determining level-dependent spell variables and caster level checks with transmutation spells. The bonus starts at +1 and increases to +2 at 9th level. This ability stacks with other spell power benefits that affect spells from the transmutation school.

Improved Metamagic (Su): At 10th level, a master transmuter has mastered metamagic to such an extend that whenever she uses a metamagic feat on a spell, the required increase in spell level (if any) is reduced by one (minimum +1 spell level). For example, a master transmuter could prepare a quickened slow as a 6th-level spell instead of a 7th-level spell.

Tarkhan already helped me with balancing, so imho the balance isn't the big problem. But all opinions about balance are of course welcome. This class should be balanced with the Incantatrix, which is a rather strong PrC (as far as I know).

Another thing are the Transmutation Defense and Transmutation Power class features, which I took from the Red Wizard. Although they seem balanced and more or less fitting I'd like to know if someone could think of some less generic class features that could replace them.
Something that influences transmutation magic and/or metamagic in more interesting and unique ways.
