LoS Established when a PsiCrystal reaches S-14.

Finn is in W-17 with a readied action and holding a guisarme and tanglefoot bag.

Still Kirabee's turn.

Samb
2009-06-09, 03:37 PM
Huh? My psicrystal is small, close to ground and 20' higher than Finn how can LoS be established for either of them? The structure itself should get in the way especially at s14.

Psionic Dog
2009-06-09, 04:03 PM
Well...
*pulls out scratch pad and pen*
*rereads rule precedents of this map*

The 'structure' isn't quiet that big an obstacle.

Constricts may be diminutive and occupy only 1 cubic foot, but are assumed to be anywhere in the 5ft square they occupy on the map. Thus, if we assume the cliff squares slopes directly to the ground then it could look directly over the edge to see Finn, and be seen in turn, as I previously assumed.

At worst the map precedent section lists a "3ft face at the top". If that translates to "3 ft of even level ground at the top" (which It isn't since a DC 15 climb is also required to stand at the top) then a 1ft tall object 3ft from an edge then your crystal can see down 5ft over the edge for every 15ft distant the object is horizontally... in which case I established LoS a little to soon. So, at worst LoS would still have been established when the crystal reached U-14.

Hang on.
refs
As I understood it, the cliffs were 20' high, even beside the stairs. When the psycrystal is in U14, there is not LoS for the crossbow shot. If so, we need to rewind to the crossbow shot.

edit: Kyeudo says I'm dumb not correct.

KirabeeNo LoS. By my calculations, the psicrystal can only make it to K13 or K14. In round 2, you ordered it to U14. LoS was established in the middle of the move but you never changed it's destination. From U14, it's 55' to K13 or 60' to K14.
FinnNo LoS. LoS to the psycrystal is broken as it moves west.

Actually I could have sent my psicrystal further since I carried it to e14 myself. I could have sent it to o14 but didn't want to leave it in the middle of the bridge to get kicked out.
I didn't know I could change destinations once LoS was established. So I know that Finn was at w17 on turn 2 and he knows that my psicystal is somewhere on the steps? So still no LoS and rewind to round 2 Finn? Or to my round 2 since refs gave away its location (hence defeating the purpose of spoiler)?

MATCH ON HOLD.

REFS ONLY
Samb (Kirabee) should be DQed for cheating.

Since I am involved in said match I will need more clarification as to what the status is. Do we rewind last turn as chile stated? Also I'm pretty sure it take a full round action to reload a heavy crossbow.

I never said anything about rewinding outside of the ref spoiler. Ref spoilers are off limits to the participants of a match.

@Samb

We rarely can detect cheating, so when we see something that might be cheating we tend to come down like a bag of hammers.

I'll accept your explanation, but further suspicious actions may result in at least a DQ loss for this match.

Match is good to go.

so do I have LoS still or was I mistaken? Also is the match still on hold? I want to be more careful but i'm at a loss as to how to proceed. If I didn't have LoS when I looked at Finn's actions should we rewind to Finn's last move since I was mistaken? Was I mistaken?

@Samb and refs

You have LoS, I believe, as the main reason you might not have LoS was the potential height of the slope. If I am mistaken, a rewind may be in order. The match is no longer on hold.

Samb
2009-06-10, 06:03 PM
gauntlet, you need to revise your last move since reloading a heavy crossbow is a full action.

PS I did look at your spoiler tag since I have LoS, just in case you needed to know.

Sorry, Kirabee had (past tense) LoS which was broken as part of his round 3 movement.

There is currently no LoS.

LoS History: (spoilered for space, all may view)

Kirabee Round 1:
Kirabee wins initiative. Does stuff. No LoS.

Finn Round 1:
Finn does stuff. No LoS.

Kirabee Round 2:
Kirabee does stuff, psicristal establishes LoS when arriving at U-14. (S-14?) Psycristal/Finn LoS established.

Finn Round 2:
Finn takes the pot shot at the Psycristal and moves. LoS between Psycristal/Finn still in effect.

Kirabee Round 3:
Kirabee does more stuff. The Psycristal retreats west breaking LoS.

Finn Round 3:
Finn does stuff that Kirabee can't see since LoS was just broken above.

@Kirabee

No LoS

I believe you are now in I-13 and your psicristal is in R-17. From R-17 your psycristal can't see Finn.

@Finn

No LoS

As Kirabee stated, you can't reload a heavy crossbow as a move/standard action. Please revise your turn in any way you see fit.

Rewind enacted to the beginning of Finn's last turn, round 3.

I'm going to concede this game. I worked so hard to get the jump on you and have high ground, only to miss my touch attack. Maybe I shouldve used tanglefoot bags as well since your reflex save sucked. Well let me have it then.

Rolling no higher than a 4, 3 times in row was not in my stratgy either. Best laid plans fail to poor luck.

Gauntlet
2009-06-13, 09:17 AM
what does Entangling Ectoplasm actually do? :smallconfused:

Samb
2009-06-13, 09:41 AM
It entanges you for 5 turns on a touch attack. No saves, no STR checks 25feet range. If I used a tanglefoot bag on you you would just make the STR check.

Of course I have to roll at least a 7 to get it to hit you and I only rolled a 2. Figures.

Gauntlet
2009-06-13, 11:02 AM
I don't know, I'd have needed to roll a 14 to break out of a Tanglefoot Bag- I only have a 16 in Str, you know :smallamused:

Does seem nice, though- the advantage of a TFB is you can go for the AC 5 square under your feet. Also, even if you *do* make the reflex save or the Strength check, you're entangled anyway- the saves only get rid of the immobilisation.

Samb
2009-06-13, 11:21 AM
Hmm why did i think you had a 20 in STR? damn I'll use the bags instead next time, its cheaper too.
Although with a roll of 2 I'd even miss the ground so it would not have mattered. The dice gods wanted me to lose :(

Kirabee conceeds. The victory goes to Finn.

-------------------------------------------------

Match Commentaries:

Gauntlet: Tanglefoot is not a splash weapon, and targeting a square will not entangle the square's occupant(s). The description specifically says a ranged touch against a creature is required. Nothing changes this match as the 18 would have still hit, but it is a point to remember in future matches.
