View Full Version : Insanowar 8: The Title Totally Isn't Late.

Welcome to Insanowar

Da Rules:

1.) There are five players, each of which represent a commander of their army.

2.) Each player takes turns choosing some powerful character, semi-powerful group of characters, or large mob of expendable non-characters from any sort of media. Examples: The TMNTs, a Dreadnought from 40K, a mob of kobolds.

3.) When each player has 10 selections, the game begins.

4.) A map will be provided showing the layout of the battlefield. Each person will have a base of operations with which they can wage war. Note that each base is about 2 turns away from each other.

5.) A static turn order is established. In each turn, the player dictates what their troops are doing, as far as the opponent can see. Secret actions need not be reported (although it is good sportsmanship to give hints as to what your are planning).

6.) When troops engage, the person whose turn the engagement took place on decides the outcome, which will usually NOT be all one way. If there is any friendly dispute (and the dispute WILL be friendly, or else), other players/playgrounders chime in with their opinions. If no consensus is reached, it's a 50/50 slaughter.

7.) The winner is the one who wins.

Da Guidelinez:

1.) You can't choose anyone TOO powerful. No gods, demigods, anything like that. Make it something that's about the same power level as the other troops on the field.

2.) Don't be a jerk. The objective here is to have fun--frankly, who wins and who loses is pretty arbitrary anyway. This game is definitely straddling the line between Silly and Structured.

3.) Respect Awesomeness. If a player is pulling off something that's just too awesome to believe, that should aid his victory.

4.) Enjoy yourself. Seriously, guys.

Rules subject to change.

I'm here. Forgot about this for a while. Sorry.

For my powerful character I'm gonna pick: A space Marine Chaplain. Complete with Jump Pack, Bolt Pistol, Rosarius and Crozius Arcanum.

Article one this guys. Complete with pics (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Chaplain)

That's not too powerful, is it? I was gonna pick someone else when I realized he's kinda like a demi-god.

billtodamax

well other people picked 8-10 ordinary space marines. Not sure what that means for this guy though.

well other people picked 8-10 ordinary space marines. Not sure what that means for this guy though.

Well generally speaking chaplains are essentially generals and army officers. They count as HQ units in 40k and have access to powerful weapons etc. A normal space marine is just a grunt so to speak.

Of course the problem with space marines is that depending on the author in question they go from, "slightly better super human warriors. Cool leaders backed by dozens of elite soldiers," to, "super warriors of death. One squad can kill a million men and conquer an entire planet unaided."

I'm leaning towards the 1st one with this guy. A leader of an elite, well trained, genetically altered and powerful fighting force. He's a hero and powerful but a good shot to a weak spot in his armor will still cripple him.

Also, theres no limit on powerful characters, you could have a team made up of 10 powerful character or a team made up of grunts. Theres no "1 powerful character and 9 grunt squads"

A Chaplain is most definitely not too powerful. I would in fact go so far as to say that you should give him a bodyguard. 4 Assault Marines maybe.

Okay then. I'll have a Chaplain with 4 1st Squad marines as bodyguards. All armed with chainswords, bolt pistols, frag and krak grendes, as well as melta bombs.

No. Not really. Unseated shinagami don't have access to high level demon magic and don't even have shikai level zanpaktu (sp?). Still twenty is a lot. Maybe he should only take like 10?

billtodamax
2009-06-29, 10:02 PM

Clone Troopers: Erm... Storm Trooper Guns? Grenades? Extra ammo. Its a squad so 10.

The kobolds... I dunno... a suitably large number for a horde (100?) armed with... pointy sticks.

horngeek
2009-07-05, 08:11 AM
1 Captain...

I have to ask which one. Because the Shikai and Bankai do matter.

Either not, I you guys spoke of a central thread, I would like to see it just so I know whats going on. Even if I can't join, I'm keeping tabs on this.

EDIT: Wow, and it's a sticky... ok, sorry, it's late, didn't see it.

3. Venom and Carnage

I'd say either of them is worth a full pick, and both of them is probably a bit much considering they aren't exactly a double act, but then I'm the guy who took the entire Fantastic Four as one pick, so I'm probably not qualified to comment. :smalltongue:

ThePhantom
2009-07-18, 02:15 PM
Ok, so I have three picks? What are the rules for picking then?

The rules are these:

1. No instant win things.
2. You can choose a single powerful thing, or a lot of less powerful mooks per pick.
3. Other than that, you can pick anything, but it is a good idea to make sure that the other players know what those things can do.

Croverus
2009-07-18, 02:49 PM
Ok, tell me if someone's picked any of these before:

Pick #1: Pack of Lickers from Resident Evil

Pick #2: DnD 3.5 style Lich, approx level 14

Pick #3: Horde of Skeletons from Evil Dead

billtodamax
2009-07-18, 04:17 PM
Horde and pack, can I have numbers on those please?

Croverus
2009-07-18, 10:24 PM
Pack is 5

Horde is about 40

billtodamax
2009-07-18, 10:31 PM
That seems like a very small amount of both. Of course, I don't know either source very well, so perhaps someone else should suggest appropriate numbers?

Croverus
2009-07-19, 01:47 AM
Lickers can climb any surface because their claws dig into almost any material. They have no eyes, hey simply sense living creatures. They have tongues that can be up to 15 ft long, nd are barbed. A single licker can slaughter a small group of lightly armed humans wihtin moments. They are fast, and they are raw genetic code, so when they actually eat they have a small chance of evolving. (like 5%)

The Evil Dead Skeletons are intelligent, and even breaking them apart won't kill them because their seperate parts can move independently. The only way to take them out is completely destroying their body, or breaking them to the point they pose no threat. They are about as capable in combat as a generic guard, but have very bad luck when it comes to being blown up or cruhed by large falling objects. They are more comic relief than serious threat against determined opponents.

billtodamax
2009-07-19, 02:30 AM
Well, maybe add another licker, and bump up the skeletons to 100.

Robert Blackletter

So, 6 Lickers and 100 Evil Dead Skelies... and the 1 lv 14 Lich
