So, what kind of tricks do you have for Unseen Servant?

It's listed as having 15ft movement speed and a weight of 20lb. Is it possible to cary an Unseen Servant on you back, so it's never out of range?

All tricks and uses welcome!

I've never used the spell but I've heard of a lot of people who use it as a trap-springer by using it to drag heavy bags around.

It's great at cleaning and cooking!

Oh, wait you wanted cleaver ideas.....

Well, the trap setting off idea is always good.

It's an extra pair of hands that can perform any task that doesn't require a check or roll. Good things for it to do are carry things that you want at hand but can't have on your belt, grab items you drop, reload crossbows, pull levers, open/close doors, and anything else you might have a commoner do. Except it can only be killed by area effects.

All in all, a nifty spell if you get creative, but probably not worth bringing along unless you have it at will or have a use planned for it.

I've used a horde of Unseen Servants to drag the bodies of my knocked out foes into spike pits. Why you ask? Because I wanted to laugh at their suffering as they were killed by Unseen Servants.

I have a bit of an odd question. What does an Unseen Servant look like?

Let's say you cast see invisibility. The spell description calls them "shapeless"... what does that mean?

There probably isn't a definitive answer out there, but what do you think it would look like?

I doubt you'd really see anything. Although for hilarity I'd tell the player they see and extremely bored looking butler who looks like he'd rather be anywhere else.

As for what to use them for... get a wand of it of decently high CL. Then have several of them just carry/drag you around on a throne.

For a more practical use, have them drag around any loot you think might be trapped. Or just general loot hauling.

I'd imagine some mischievious looking imp.

I would use it to set off traps, which has never happened, since I've always had a trap-finder in my party. Delivering potions or other items is pretty usefull when combat is going on. Lastly, I'd use it for pranks, if I'm bored and want to waste that spell slot.

Technically, going by the "shapeless" dealie, I'd make them look roughly smokelike, with appendages they can use as arms. Though after hearing Alleine's bored butler idea, I'd go with that instead.

So, basically the spell could work as a sort of Quick Draw feat? With the servant reloading your crossbow just before its your turn to shoot again.

Having it pick potions from your belt and shove them down your throat is a cool idea as well .

What about logistics? It has a movement speed of 15ft, that's pretty slow. So is it possible to cary the servant on your back?

The most ingenious thing I've seen is to actually use your US as kinda wall. Having it between you and bad stuff cuts off charge lanes and such. Sure, the charge will destroy the servant, but whats the point in having minions, even magical ones, if you can't sacrifice them to your greater good? There is an item in MIC that allows you to cast US infinite times per day. Do it, and always have it stand about 10' in front of you. Better protection than a Ring of Protection +1, of nearly equivalent price.

My bad, its here, on wizards website (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fools/20030401c).

At will, the wearer of this collar can call an unseen servant, as the spell, to attend and clean up after him or another creature he designates. The unseen servant performs such mundane tasks as cleaning up hairballs and policing the wearer's litter box. It also grooms the wearer on command, removing burrs, smoothing tangles, and ensuring that the wearer's fur remains soft and well-tended.

Caster Level: 1st; Prerequisites: Forge Ring, unseen servant; Market Price: 2,000 gp; Weight: 1/4 lb.

I distract the dragon while a few Unseen Servants shovel the contents of his hoard into my Bag of Holding.

I also have it pinch the bottom of the town guard just as we walks past the table of guys who look like they want to start a fight with me.

Oh, and anything involving Sovereign Glue is automatically hilarious. Give a jar to your Unseen Servant and have him start applying it to people's scabbards, clothing, etc.

I am in a game where we were escorting an NPC with a mysterious urn. My curious sorcerer just had to identify it. And we started the campaign with 3,000gp in scrolls. So we're at an inn, I get to the room he's sleeping in and the door's locked. And I forgot to get knock. So I poke my wiggling caster finger under his door, set up a Tenser's floating disk next to the table the urn is on. I summon an unseen servant to push it, since they can only lift 20 lbs. but push 100 lbs. No dice, it weighs more than 100 lbs. I immediately summon another unseen servant to help push and they get it on the disk. I direct the disk next to the door, dismiss the disk and feather fall the urn. I slip my pinky underneath the door to make contact with the urn and cast identify, hoping no one walks by during the next 10 minutes in the middle of the night.

Some other Unseen Servant Tricks (such as the Unseen Boat of Death):

Great for dropping/activating alchemical items. Smokesticks for cover/concealment (Eberron has a nauseating version, I think). Caltrops and marbles (A&E p. 24), slashing sand (Sandstorm), razor ice powder/vial of icy sheets (Frostburn). Also a torch/tindertwig + web ("Jeeves! If you see a web, light it on fire!").

Not to mention a hoard of RP uses and distractions. Knocking over drinks in a bar, undoing the clasps on a guard's Fullplate (Since a US can be used to count as a second pair of hands for putting one on, it should be able to remove), carry notes to other people (My personal favorite "I'm in ur base, killin ur doodz") and a long list of other fun and amusing things.

And if the DM doesn't have the sister spell for it, there is use of them as Partners as well... *Bow-chicka-wow-wow*

Really, it's limited by your imagination.

"No Face" from "Spirited Away."

I forgot to ask, are you able to put spells on the US? Like Bulls Strength, Enlarge Person? Will that make it able to carry more? Could I cast it into someones open window with Explosive Runes on its belly? A giant invisble neon sign holding a barrel of oil that explodes after being read...Heh.

Unseen Servant, Unseen crafter, Unseen lover. Seems to me that wizards prefer to have their servitors invisible so that they wont have to look at them. Much like the average barbaric monarchy.

lol i could see a mage and a rogue working together, a mage uses the unseen servent the give someone a wedgie and then the rogue picks the persons pockect when he is trying to get the underwear out lol (of course this might be able to be done with mage hand also)

Once, my character was trying to sneak into a tower filled with ogres to rescue some prisoners. The tower had a rudimentary alarm system consisting of a rope running up the central stair attached to a bunch of small bells. I had my unseen servant cut all the bells off and hide them under the staircase before I went in. It worked quite well actually.
