He doesn't have it in #298 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0298.html). He does the next time we see him, in #403 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0403.html). And from then on.

...WTHeck?

The first one might not be O-Chul. Stick figures don't convey that much visual information.

"Just fine, thanks for asking!" doesn't seem the best fit for O-Chul.

The fact that he has no scar in #298 pretty much implies that that paladin is not O-Chul =)

And, to add to that, the two stick figures posted have different colored boots.

Also, like Foryn noted, "Just fine, thanks for asking!" doesn't seem like O-Chul. Hell, if we assume that the first figure isn't even O-Chul, this (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0651.html) is the first time - first time - we ever see O-Chul smiling.

(And yes, I looked)

He has the beard. The O-Chul beard.

Also, how is enjoying being medium-sized somehow "not O-Chul"?

He's not that flaky. He'd probably find the question weird. Not that he minds being medium-sized.

*agrees*

O-Chul is more grim than that one anyways.

The bearded man acts too exuberantly (an exclamation point?), his diction is off, he lacks O-Chul's scar, he smiles too much, & his boots are different.

Just to summarize.

isn't this (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0290.html) the first instance of O-chul? or is that guy different?

No, that's the apparent complete stranger who looks exactly damn like O-Chul minus scar. (Why do boots matter? He could have bought new ones for all we know!)

My point is that he might have gotten the scar between 298 and his "first apperance", instead of having had it for a while.

Comic 290 has also been brought up as being possibly O-Chul. However, he has the bright-colored boots as well.

The boots are part of the Paladin armor. The Giant talks about it in War & XPs.

The Happily Medium Sized Man is actually O-Chul's twin brother, U-Chol:smallwink:

I suppose all paladins look alike to you, don't they?

Classist!

Yup thats it, or it's an O-Chul wanna-be. There was got to be a lot of those.

There's a 100 strip gap. It's most likely that Rich didn't plan Ochul's look until 403, and any previous characters were just coincidences.

Or he got the scar in the meantime.

But most likely, it's just NOT O'chul. Or a mistake.

O-chul does not enjoy being medium-size. Medium enjoys being O-chul sized.

Just to summarize.Isn't it just possible that being tortured daily for months might have changed his outlook some? We didn't see much of him before the siege, and when we did see him he was on duty. Don't underestimate how much of a difference being off-duty can make to a man.

Clearly, the person shown in 298 is O'chul in his secret identity. Like Clark Kent, except instead of putting on glasses, he takes off his scar. Don't ask how.

This appearence in 290 is a flashback. He'd have had plenty of time to have gotten a scar or two since then.

I fully support this.

I like the idea that it was given to him by Mr. Scruffy (That's the cats name, right?)

Maybe O-Chul gave himself the scar by scratching at his stubbly face one morning. Only then did he realise that he had DR60/O-Chul. :smallwink:

O-Chul's scar was caused by a massive explosion when he sampled some of Vaarsuvius' "Explosive Runes" coffee. (Vaarsuvius made extra)

he had made 487 packets before looking at the labels.

why 487? only such a massive number could hurt O-Chul.

just a theory here.

No no no, it would have had to be at least 682.

Well, if it is him in 298.....maybe he just got it later? Not sure how that's a stretch, he has LOTS more by 663.

Now, if he had the scar in 298 and not in 403, that would be problematic.

O-chul is the next Chuck Norris?

:smallconfused: Then a ninja would have to kill him...for that is the life of a paladin and the "Way of the Dragon".
