Our 4th level party - my warforged wizard among them - recently found a jar in a research lab of worshippers of Zarash. After interrogating a captive researcher, we found out that the jar is the containment chamber of a Will-O'-Wisp that they had been trying to gain control over - in vain, since they are immune to magic.

And so now my 5th level wizard is walking around in a forest with a Will-O'-Wisp in a jar. What would you suggest I do with it?

Talk the DM into allowing you to take Improved Familiar, and make it your pet badass. Have the level requirement be 11th.

Good God Man! You've invented a battery!

Shake it up, then shatter it on the BBEG's head. Enjoy from a good 500 feet back.

Heh. I must bring this up with my DM, although I have foregone a Familiar for an alternate class feature. Haven't used it almost at all, though. (Divination specialist, Enhanced Awareness)

Sometimes no other term cuts it: lol. And I did laugh out loud, although quietly, so I won't wake my family.

I'm afraid that won't work. We already tried it with a Shadow Asp in a jug. The little bastard just slithered away when we threw it at the feet of the BBEG, after which the majority of us were beaten unconscious. (Well, my wizard ran for it and got away, but returned a bit later. The halfling knight ran away. Period.)

The Obtain Familiar feat (Complete Arcane) can make up for the ACF. If you have PH2 access, you can instead use Retraining o swap out the ACF for the Familiar again.

Jeah, I've been considering retraining. At least so far feat retraining has been in use: the Warblade changed Adaptive style to EWP: Fullblade. I think he'll allow it.

*DM in question hops in thread*

This is what Midsummer and work will do to you, missing all the important threads... :smallamused: (Incidentally, I am presently veeery bored at work, and have time to kill.)

As for the improved familiar, we shall see, although so far I don't have anything against it. Although, the fact that your alignment isn't compatible with its own (it's CE, while you were N, right?) might cause some problems.

Edit: And the God's name was Zarus. (stolen from Races of Destiny, I believe, I don't have my books handy.)

That was mostly because the Shadow Asp was bound to the chamber it was taken from, and hurried to return to guard it, it was not because of any lack of wanting to poison all of these disgusting meatbags swinging all around him in the clearing. :smallamused:

"Heads up!" "Is this...? Mon Dieu!"

Sorry, I couldn't resist :smalltongue:

The next time you run out of hearts HP, let it come out of the jar and revive you! But then you'd have to catch another one...

But a simple jar costs like a 300 Rupees GP these days! And you have to go through a whole quest just the net yourself some net to catch them! And you need something to poke with some holes for air.. And some bombs, cuz those buggers hang out in sealed caves smoking pot.

Hmmm, since you're warforged, would there be a way to integrate it into you armor plating/body? Maybe something like:

Will-O'-Wisp Plating: Once per round whenever an enemy deals melee damage against you with a metal weapon, they take 2d8 points of Electricity damage and you turn Invisible until the start of your next turn. This ability ability functions up to three times per day. It is otherwise the same as a +1 Twilight Mithril Chain Shirt (0% spell failure, +5 AC, +6 Max Dex).

Put it on the mantlepiece? It'd make an excellent conversation starter...

Fancy lantern? Stock for army of wisp simulacrum (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/simulacrum.htm)s dealing massive invisible electricity damage?

Good idea. If you Planar Bind a Mirror Mephit (Expedition to Demonweb Pits), you get Simulacrum for next to nothing with no CL limit.Just make sure the jar is set up so you don't have to worry about catching the little bastards.
