I'm starting a focused conjurer at level one, but I've got two possible builds in mind:

3 Conjurer/4 Master Specialist/7 Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil/6 Malconvoker

OR

5 Conjurer/4 Master Specialist/7 Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil/4 Fatespinner

Focuses are summoning, control, and abjuration, in that order. Banning evocation, enchantment, and necromancy. Definitely taking Abrupt Jaunt, and all WotC books are allowed (but no magazines). Which build do people think would be better?

Malconvoker is pretty darn powerful. That build will basically be pretty self-sufficient without leaving the party feeling useless.

For more clarification, it's a bosses-only combat-only game, so it should be great. I've always loved the amount of control summoning provided, and I've always toyed around with Malconvoker BUT...

1. Is the loss of a caster level worth it?
2. Can't Magic Circle Against Evil hedge out my minions?
3. I've heard some chatter about Malconvoker/Fatespinner to make sure you win those minions. Any thoughts?
4. How about imbued summoning from PHB II?

I've heard tell that you get free twinning on your summons with Malconvoker, so I'm going to hazard an answer of "yes" in regards to that.

Imbued Summoning could be cool, maybe combine with Easy Metamagic (theory)?
