View Full Version : Haley "May Become Pregnant"?

Babale

In this (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0324.html) strip, (Yes, I know I'm a little late) Haley has the "eek" expression on her face when she hears "Nursing, pregnant, or may become pregnant". Considering her relationship with Elan when this strip was current, why is she scared?

Maybe she's just surprised, given how sexist that is. Technically, any human female of Haley's age 'may become pregnant.'

Zanaril

I think it's just generic eek-ness, not about anything thing said in particular.

Ridureyu

Well, since we have already proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that Haley is half-celestial half-dragon, I think that we also now have proof that she is carrying twins. Half-vampire twins.

More importantly, why would anyone want to play 1/2 vampire 1/4 celestial 1/4 dragon players in about 20 years' time? It's not optimized at all, and the backstory's overdone.

She's probably just shocked at the mouth in general, not just at the pregnant part. Though I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Haley pregnant in an epilouge.

Now that I think about it... Maybe she just takes a Remove Disease Potion more then once a month.

That theory doesn't work, given that she has a normal expression for the first three panels.

She's a rogue, with so many warnings and disclaimers she just knows something is afoot. Like, for example, a 1/4 celestial, 1/4 dragon, half-vampire, half-goblin and 2/3 dalmatian.

This strip takes place at least two months before Kasumi gets pregnant (she's eight weeks pregnant after four months at sea.) Haley would probably need a month or two to find out in the first place. If she was pregnant in #324, she would have delivered by now.

Pretty well for uncle Creon, what with getting to become king.

Anyway, yes, Haley "may become pregnant" now that she's reunited with Elan. Now whether this is like faerun where birth control is both easier to get and more reliable than on this material plane.... Well, that's all left up to the power of the plot.

hehe... Plotdoms....

You mean like this one (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Ptitlehrgctnd7), where the character declares that she definitely can't be pregnant (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Ptitlehrgctnd7)?

Or possibly this one (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MySecretPregnancy), where she hides the fact that she might be/is pregnant?
Or this one (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SurprisePregnancy), where everything's going along fine, and... surprise! Pregnant (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SurprisePregnancy).

There is an entire index on pregnancy-related tropes (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PregnancyTropes).

How is that sexist?

While I don't personally find that warning sexist (just stupid) I think the point is that saying "don't visit the oracle/take medication X if you may become pregnant" is like saying "don't visit the oracle/take medication X if you're a female under age 50" since technically, they all (well, almost all, at least) "may become pregnant" (and since there is no time given, that even applies to newborn females).

I realise that. I just think it's not phrased very well. They're not saying "if you're trying to get pregnant", because that wouldn't cover their asses for unplanned pregnancies that the woman isn't aware of. And they don't want to just say "if you're active sexually" because (argh!) there is the word "sex" in it! So they go with something vague that can save them if something goes bad but probably won't reduce their sales too much because nobody has any clue what it's supposed to mean anyways.

And at any rate, I just think that's what the person who said "it's sexist" meant. As I said, I don't personally find it sexist.

I think its the general Oracle's dislike of anyone.
They walk away early, it was just starting on erections, so in addition to "If you're female, don't bother me" it could have essentially said "If you're male, go away too".

Hm, lets see how could the sentence have ended?
"Erections lasting longer than 4 hours are required to make your woman happy" (hoping it throws guys inot depression and they turn around)
"Erections lasting longer than 4 hours are absolutely normal for the oracle" (however that might make the females from earlier want to visit now...)
"Erections lasting longer than 4 hours have been known to cause brain damage"

Its early, I can't come up with more right now...

Being that Haley has been proven already to be half-celestrial, half-black-dragon (That half died of course in the familicide...), three-quarter pit fiend, and one-third-first-edition-thief, her pregnancy clearly takes 6 years, 6 months and 6 days to complete, instead of just 9 month, so she's right now in the equivalent of 2nd month, which is not really visible yet.

I think Haley is looking shocked simply because it's a pretty broad warning. I mean, "May become pregnant"? As Lissou said, that covers most females between puberty and menopause, and I think Haley definitely falls into that region!

What it covers really is:

1. Females
2. Who are fertile (both in terms of age AND bereft of all the other potential causes of infertility).
3. Are sexually active.

So it really says a bit more than some people might be taking from it. Yes, technically a girl who isn't sexually active MAY become pregnant, if she is raped or decides LATER to become sexually active, but c'mon, this is what they're getting at.

And by the way, anytime you hear what seems like a blatantly obvious and stupid warning like this, you can be sure it's to protect the company form an idiot lawsuit. Like from people that don't realize that hot coffee is hot or that you shouldn't let infants play with plastic bags unattended.

Hot coffee is not generally served a temperature that will burn your skin off. The woman in that case had to have several skin grafts because McDonald's was serving their coffee at a dangerous temperature; they knew it was dangerous because they'd already paid off several other people who had been burned.
