I found this (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0341.html) and am curious. What exactly does Elan see starting with the letter "I"?

Painfully obvious that he saw an Ixitxachitl :smalltongue:

They're next to a building on the edge of a park, so my vote is "Ivy."

This.

(Need more characters to post, so I will compose a haiku about Elan's speech balloon.)

Elan spies an I.
The I justifies itself.
Metatext is cool.

Something extremely vital to the plot. In 300 strips, it will be revealed that this apparent throw away gag was actually epic foreshadowing.

He sees his own speech balloon (that begins with the letter "I") :smalltongue:

..................but..........he would never have made the speech balloon if he didn't say it......how could he I spy his own speech bubble, while SAYING his own speech bubble!?

aaaaaaaah!!!!! paradox!!

That one's easy, if you think speaking one word at a time... Have you ever played? You almost always say "I spy... with my little eye..." and THEN decide.

aaaaaaaah!!!!! paradox!!

Imagine the speech occurs over time, not all at once on a printed page. So the speech balloon fills over time. Like those chat programs you see in movies where letters appear in real-time as they are typed, rather than popping up all at once when the typer hits enter.

Now think of how people typically play I Spy. They start saying "I spy with my little eye..." long before they've actually decided what they spy.

So Elan decides he wants to play I Spy. He says "I spy with my little eye..." and looks around for something interesting. He sees a speech bubble above his head that says "I spy with my little eye..." and decides that's what he wants to spy.

Paradox solved.

Edit: Ninja'd.

By the way, if that was it, that is a brilliant joke that took months (if not longer) for people to work out...

Someone should say that was it, if so. :D

Maybe Elan thought that he saw an EYElid with his closed eye, and doesn't know how to spell well.

I never heard of that monster. But to say that, wasn't Miko an inevitable, shapechanged into a human?

Personally, I like the joke of Durkon saying that trees so far into the city strikes him as a bit "shady". :smallwink::smallbiggrin:

How many levels in Craft (Plotline) does the Giant need to cast Epic Foreshadowing? Is the Giant a lvl 30 Bard?

"Impending battle"? Admittedly, he can't see anything from the direction he's physically looking at, but, as a bard, perhaps he's reading the future comics to predict what's coming..
