In 643 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0643.html), when V teleports the fleet, it seems like it's a huge favor.

Was it, really? Or did it just put them right back in Xykon's path?

before the teleport they were somewhere in the ocean, after the teleport they were somewhere in the ocean near an island. we don't really have any more information than that.

Also, Xykon is off to the western gate, why should he waste time attacking the azurites again?

even if they were, i think the last thing xykon wants is another costly seige. he probably lost a quarter of his army against azure city (would be more, but he at least would of got a bunch of low level undead out of it) if x tries to take to many more fortified locations he is going to wind up without a military force, and he is going to need that if he is going for the northern gate

Xykon won't be able to get much of his army across the sea, anyway. Plus, I assume Paladins of the Sapphire Guard follow a variant of the Inverse Ninja rule. There's only three of them left (maybe four, if you count Thanh), so they're smite incarnate.

Our next gate is in a desert. While there are deserts bordering oceans, the presumption is that the gate is far away from the sea, which means there is little chance Xykon will be bothering about some city that is likely not on the way, and can just be avoided anyway.

More to the point, the only person who might really want to attack the Azurites is Redcloak, and I doubt Xykon will be particularly charitable to his opinions for the foreseeable future.

They fly over it on an undead dragon... well thats where the theory is flawed already, because Xykon would probably just Greater/Epic Teleport as many people as he can.

Anyway, they fly over New Azure City on their undead dragon, :xykon: looks down "Oh look, an undefended city. I wonder who lives there... ah who cares. Empowered Maximized Enlarged Epic Meteor Swarm!"

That's, like, a 15th level spell. You have to be level 30 to cast it (32 if you took epic spellcasting)

From comic 643:

Either Kazumi or Daigo: "What the hell? Did you just move the entire fleet? Where are we?"

V: "At a large island a few dozen Kilometers from the Western Continent."

Yeah... they may or may not be in Xykon's direct path, but they ARE somewhere nearby.

He's casting a privately researched version that's a couple of levels lower :)

Or uses a magic item he crafted to do it. Or its not Meteor Swarm but something else.

Does it really matter? Its not going to happen because he's just going to teleport past them.

Hm... of course it would be fun:
:xykon:: Alright girls, everyone ready to teleport out. Redcloak you've been to the bathroom? I don't want to stop mid-teleport again, like last time.
:redcloak:: Uhh... <runs off and comes back a few minutes later> Yes, we're all ready now.
:xykon:: Good. I'm gonna teleport us to a small abandoned castle I visited some time ago, just off the western continent from there we can start looking for the gate.
Greater Teleport.
<Xykon, RC, Tsukkiko and a couple Hobgoblins pop up in the middle of New Azure City>
:xykon:: Hi guys, don't I know you from somewhere?

Yeah... they may or may not be in Xykon's direct path, but they ARE somewhere nearby.

We know from the decision to attack Azure City that Xykon doesn't care about having to conquer nations in order to reach his target, but I really doubt an island off the coast of the western continent would be something he'd care about--it's rather easy to go ROUND it, after all, and Xykon's ADD means he isn't going to waste time destroying the remains of the Azurites when he can avoid them entirely with little effort.

Xykon might well be in his 30s - He'd have to be 32 to create the fire immunity ring he mentioned. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0653.html)

He didn't mention a ring, he mentioned a magic item. You only need 23 levels for that.

In much the same way Cuba is "near" Alaska, because it's "a few dozen kilometers from the North American continent". As in, not at all.

Yeah, but part of the reason the ring requires Forge Epic Ring is because the described effect, which is identical to that of a Ring of Energy Immunity (fire), is so powerful.

What level does he need to be if we assume it's a custom Epic Wondrous Item?

(and how was 32 calculated? is this implied by the 35 skill ranks? I don't know the epic rules. Why do rings require so much more than other wondrous items - is it because they're more powerful, or because rings are harder to make?)
