With regard to Epic Spells, which of the following does the Factor that increases the area of a spell by 100% accomplish?

1. With each application the area increases by 100% of the original area

eg. 20ft radius becomes 40ft, then 60ft, 80ft 100ft etc.

2. Each application increases the area by 100% of the new area

eg. 20ft radius becomes 40ft, then 80ft, 160ft, 320ft etc.

3. Neither of the above, in which case please explain where I went wrong.

I know all about the failings/pitfalls of Epic Spellcasting, and am prepared for them.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'd say it's the first one. 2nd option doesn't really make sense if you think about it ;)

And why not?

And why not?

Because of the way D&D math works.

You are doing 3x and get some item that makes you do 2x more damage. Do you do 6x or 4x? Protip: it is 4x. See spirited charge as the most obvious example.

Thanks all, I thought as much but figured I'd just check. If it had been the second I'd have had a floating island twice the size of Africa-ish.
