No more Rolling Stones, but Pink Floyd now.

"In the Flesh" and "In the Flesh?" are two songs from Pink Floyd's The Wall album.

So the question now is; will there be more Pink Floyd stuff, or was this a coincident?

A strange either-or scenario you present. I assume the reference in the comic title was intentional, but that doesn't mean we are going to see more Pink Floyd inspired titles.

In the past Rich has not settled down with just a single reference to a band. The latest Rolling Stones references gave us several title references in a row.

So what will the next reference be?

Comfortably numb?
High Hopes?
A momentary lapse of reason?

Perhaps some lyrics reference?

Ever since #592 "Stuck in the Middle" (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0592.html), I've wondered if we'll see any more Stealers Wheel/Gerry Rafferty music titles (seeing as Gerry Rafferty is, to me, the best singer, ever)...

Can't see Rich reusing a music title joke, though. Sorry.

The list of potential Floyd titles is huge, but I think its likely a coincidence that any song title just happens to fit a particular strip. The giant seems to be quite musically literate for my era, and while a continuation of Floyd themed strips is a possibility, I suspect he is more worried about the rule of funny then purposely utilizing song titles.

Aside from the obvious ones, it would be great to see a strip titled "several species of small furry creatures gathered in a cave and grooving with a pict."

I knew somebody was going to mention that one ;)

"A saucerful of secrets" perhaps?
"Careful with that axe, Eugene"? Not that our Eugene is an axewielding maniac.
"Set the controls for the heart of the sun?"
"See Emilie play"?

"One of these days" (...I am gonna cut you to little pieces), seems fitting to many of the early OOTS strips.

"Great gig in the sky", should have been used by now. Opportunity missed there ;)

Thriller...

Oh yeah, that's funny, we all heard the news...

Do you think he'll make a Beatles or AC/DC reference soon?

"In the flesh" is an extremely common phrase. There are 2.9 million references to it in Google, of which a mere 168,000 are Pink Floyd references. I don't think this strip is one.

However, the title of strip #427 is clearly a deliberate Pink Floyd reference.

There was already an ac/dc one recently, so I doubt it'd be used again so soon. I'd love to see one from Rhapsody of Fire, actually.

Personally, I'm waiting to see a Spinal Tap reference; am I alone?

Not to mention 432 could very well be another reference to Floyd. While the dogs of war is a fairly common phrase, it did come shortly after a reference to The Wall.

As for Pink Floyd songs that would make good titles for future strips:
"Momentary Lapse of Reason"
"Wish You Were Here" (kinda missed chance, would have been great with dead Roy)
"The Show Must Go On"
"Delicate Sound of Thunder" (a Durkon/Thor strip)
"A Great Day for Freedom"
"Coming Back to Life"
"High Hopes"
"The Happiest Days of our Lives"

and that's just off the top of my head.

While the dogs of war is a fairly common phrase ...

It's a quote from Shakespeare.

And Caesar's spirit, raging for revenge,
With Ate by his side come hot from hell,
Shall in these confines with a monarch's voice
Cry "Havoc!" and let slip the dogs of war,
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men, groaning for burial.

Julius Caesar Act 3, scene 1

Titled "Hail to the Chief".

...or mention that he's getting too old for this.

That would actually have been a much better name for #352 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0352.html) than "The Turnaround".

"In the Flesh" makes more sense as a Blondie reference; their self-titled first album had a song with that title. Its lyrics are more pertinent to Roy's resurrection than the Pink Floyd songs. I can imagine Celia (or Roy) singing this:

Darlin' darlin' darlin', I can't wait to see you
Your picture ain't enough
I can't wait to touch you, in the flesh
Darling, oh darling
I can't wait to see you
In the flesh

As for other strips, here's some I noticed:

#1 "New Edition" -- probably not a reference to the boy band
#93 "Teenage Wasteland" -- The Who's "Baba O'Riley"
#113 "Memories, Like the Edges of My Sword" -- parodies a line from Barbra Streisand's "The Way We Were" ("Memories, like corners of my mind")
#115 "Dust in the Wind" -- Kansas
#131 "Money Makes the World Go Round" -- from the musical Cabaret
#144 "Pop Goes the Weasel" -- traditional children's song
#155 "Time Is On My Side" -- The Rolling Stones
#168 "Running On Empty" -- Jackson Browne
#177 "Ch-ch-ch-Changes" -- David Bowie, "Changes"
#194 "You Light Up My Life" -- Debby Boone
#262 "All You Need is Love and Improvised Thieves' Tools" -- The Beatles, "All You Need is Love"
#363 "I Fought the Law" -- Sonny Curtis and the Crickets
#368 "All Along the Watchtower" -- Bob Dylan, etc
#384 "Words Get in the Way" -- Gloria Estafan, etc
#391 "Eye of the Tiger, Baby" -- Survivor, "Eye of the Tiger"
#427 "They're Just Another Brick in the Wall" -- Pink Floyd, "Another Brick in the Wall"
#460 "Sign, Sign, Everywhere a Sign" -- Five Man Electrical Band
#463 "Shattered" -- The Rolling Stones
#468 "Splitting Up Is Hard to Do" -- Neil Sedaka, "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do"
#485 "Hey! You! Get Off of My Cloud!" -- The Rolling Stones, "Get Off of My Cloud"
#501 "No Cure for the Wedding Bell Blues" -- Eddie Cochran & Jerry Capehart, "Summertime Blues"
#502 "And I-I-I-I Will Always Love You" -- Dolly Parton, covered by Whitney Houston
#516 "Turning Azurite, I Think I'm Turning Azurite, I Really Think So" -- The Vapors, "Turning Japanese"
#591 "Antipathy for the Devil" -- The Rolling Stones, "Sympathy for the Devil"
#592 "Stuck in the Middle" -- Joe Egan & Gerry Rafferty, "Stuck in the Middle With You"
#594 "Rock the Boat" -- Hues Corporation
#613 "I Need a Hero" -- Bonnie Tyler, "Holding Out for a Hero"
#635 "I See a Red Robe and I Want to Paint it Black" -- The Rolling Stones, "Paint it Black"
#636 "Shattered, Shattered" -- The Rolling Stones, "Shattered"
#646 "...And It Feels So Good" -- Peaches and Herb, "Reunited"
#665 "In the Flesh" -- Blondie or Pink Floyd

Looks like Rich is a Rolling Stones fan, or at least pretty familiar with their oeuvre*.

*sorry, just had to sneak that in.
