I'm putting together a list of the various substances and alchemical mixtures of the D&D books, along with a list of literal homebrews.

If you know of something from a book I don't have listed, or have your own original stuff, feel free to post.

Alchemical Items
These are almost always listed as 'Alchemical Items', mixtures that can be made with the Craft (alchemy) skill and are usually many different items mixed together.

Materials
These tend to be special stuff that armor, weapons, or building material can be made of. They are usually mined, congealed or in some way aquired, and cannot be merely mixed up.

Poisons and Ravages
These are substances that are made for the purpose of affecting the body in an unpleasant manner. They are usually distilled or secreted, but this is not always the case.

Substances
These are alike to materials and poisons but cannot usually be made into anything and are not used to harm. They can be anything from the results of magical or psionic expirementation to the extraction from creatures or naturally occurring deposits.

Are you using anything from Arms and Equipment? How about specific campaign settings (ie, the Realms)? I know Magic of Faerun had a ton of nifty stuff.

BTW, great idea. Do you let non-spellcasters get all the nifty alchemical effects? That's my main gripe about the 3.5 changes.

What: no tanglefoot bags and smokesticks? No sunrods?

Tome and Blood had a variety of alchemical items.

Well, is there much of a change with things such as poisons/alchemical items/substances, etc. bewteen the editions so that'd it make any difference?

As long as there is no spell or anything associated with the substance I say alchemy is open to everyone.

What: no tanglefoot bags and smokesticks? No sunrods?
Those are finished items.
