StarWars Knights of the old republic II question

Ok, I just got the game for X-box and I'm at the part where you need to go to the apartment (forgot the number) for the black market (i think) and the guy at the door says "leave your companions" but going into solo mode dosent work. How do I disband my party?

Start -> Triggers to get to your party selection screen. Navigate to your current party and hit A like you would if you were including one. The (green? maybe?) border around their portrait will disappear, and they'll no longer be in your party.
