View Full Version : Spoiler / Speculation - About that folder...

Assuming (for the moment) that Eugene did not open or read the contents of the folder...

Assuming (for the moment) that the title was nondescript - for example (Attn: Roy Greenhilt)

Could the information have been about Haley? (Her actions with respect to Crystal had only happened a few minutes ago also...)

Glasses (in her diligent avoidance of keywords) never mentioned Vaarsuvius - even after Roy was enjoying the mini-bar on the ride back - she just said not the halfling

No one knows about it at all (except Crystal - if she gets raised)

I would not expect it to be a "Good" act to accept (even grudgingly) the "hospitality" of the guild
- then commit premeditated murder on one of the members.

Just a thought...

Close, except: "It details the elf wizard's alarming dealings with the forces of Evil."

Besides, looks pretty clearly like Crystal was evil. Killing her would be at the very worst, a neutral act for Haley.

Is it too much to ask that people go back and check the strip in question before speculating about it?

Clearly then, the secret Haley didn't tell Elan is that she's really and elf and has a level in wizard!

Definite evil. Just because somebody is evil does not give you a right to off them. And Haley's motives seem to include a substantial amount of merely personal hatred.

Not this old thing again. So you think that every demon that kills a devil in the Blood War is doing a Good act, then? Devils are evil, after all!

No, motive matters. Belkar's motives for killing the unnamed thief back in the siege of Azure City were purely selfish, for example--he wanted to make sure that Hinjo would be alive to take the Mark of Justice off. Therefore it was not a Good act, despite the fact his target was Evil and was about to murder someone else!

Motives are hard. I'd say that Belkar's rationalization was as you describe - he knew was doing a good act, cringed at the very idea, and so provided himself with a facile rationalization as to how the act wasn't really good, you see. All about saving face.

But then, I think Belkar is growing up, and will die in a final act of alignment conversion (for which he will also have a facile rationalization ), so I attribute that motivation.
