View Full Version : Is there a way to change your type?

I am trying to find a way to change my character's type from humanoid to something more useful in terms of the Alter Self spell. It is too late to take the Otherwordly feat from Player's Guide to Faerun. Anyone know of another feat or method? I thought I had read of another possibility.

Apologies if this has been previously covered

Savage Species implies minor rituals could do it, but doesn't have any pre-set up ones that are useful. It also implies a Wish spell could do it.

Savage species has a sections on rituals to change your type. There are also spells in sandstorm and frostburn to add the cold and fire subtypes to a creature.

It's a bad reason to take a 10-level no-casting Prestige Class, but Dragon Disciple makes you a Half-Dragon, thus changing your type to Dragon...

Google "Index of prestige classes" and download the pdf. A little out of date, but it has a list of prestige classes that change your type.

The WotC Savage Progressions (http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/sp) allow you to spend levels to gain templates gradually, similar to the progressions given for monster races in Savage Species. The big difference here is that you're not forced to gain every level of the template (http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20030824a) as quickly as possible, or even at all. For example, at your next level you can take a level in Half-Fiend (http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20031010a), thus gaining the Outsider creature type, and then you can continue progressing your other classes without ever having to take the rest of Half-Fiend if you don't want it. You could even work with your DM to develop a savage progression for a variant Half-Fiend (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060630a) that would grant abilities more specific to your character's needs.

Races of Dragon has a feat that grants you the dragonblooded subtype, as well as a spell that does it temporarily.

Any LA +1 or +0 template that changes type could potentially be applied as you level (as long as it's not an inherited template).

PHB2 also has race retraining rules.

Polymorph Any Object. Buy a casting on you, pick a form where the change is permanent, go to town.

Let's say I chose the polymorph method and was able to get the extraordinary and supernatural abilities of creatures I morphed into (a homebrew particular to my class and much higher lvl than alter self normally is), what would be a good type to have access to when using the morph ability? Aberation? Outsider? The alter self lists won't take the extra qualities into account.
