people keep mentioning things like "rule 1" and "rule 34"

what are the various rules?

They vary, depending on which set of rules you're referring to. Generally, Rule 34 is that which is explained in its TV Tropes (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RuleThirtyFour) article. It usually doesn't refer to Rule 34 from the Seven Habits of Highly Effective Pirates: "If you leave scorch marks with your gun, you need a bigger gun." Rule 37, however, often does refer to that book's corresponding rule: "There is no "overkill." There is only "Open Fire" and "I need to reload.""

Rule 1 (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RuleNumberOne) also depends. I prefer "Pillage, then burn."

Rule 34 (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RuleThirtyFour) is "If it exists, there is porn of it."

Never heard of Rule 1. Presumably they come from a list I have yet to view.

edit: Ninja'd. And you even included the same link!

Rule 0 is: The DM supersedes all rules in the books.

Rule 34, as was mentioned, states that anything that exists has had porn made out of it. It originated in 4chan, where the "Rules of the Internet" were written.

Other notable rules:

Rule 1: Do not talk about /b/.
Rule 2: DO NOT talk about /b/.
Rule 6: Anonymous is not your personal army.
Rule 13: Do not argue with a troll. Or else they win.
Rule 28: There is also something more messed up than what you just saw.
Rule 31: Pics or it didn't happen.
Rule 35: If there is no porn of it, porn shall be made.

Most of the rules are NSFW, so I'm not bringing them all up here. Besides, the numbers shift a lot.

Can you provide a link? By PM if it's NSFW enough that you don't want to post it?

the rules are as follows.
1. a robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. a robot must obey any orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the first law.
3. a robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the first or second law.
34. a robot must make porn of an item if it exists, except where such orders would conflict with the first or second law.
a fairly complete set of moral guidelines. (http://i40.tinypic.com/ipxwjp.png)

Dude, a LOT of porn out there from Rule 34 violates the entirety of Aasimov's Rules.

Like all things on ED, this is for mature (or, more accurately, extremely immature) audiences only.

a quick check of c:\pr0n\r34\robots\ yields twenty-seven images to support your claim.

I hear that rule 74 states that if it exists, Tony Stark built it in a cave with a box of scraps.

Or at least that he could if necessary. And that he might be able to even if it doesn't exist yet. :smalltongue:

Sheriff: I think there's enough here to give the OP the idea without creating some thread that gets people into a lot of trouble.
