Because you/I/we demanded it!
and because we needed to stop derailing other threads...
here we talk about the alluring beauties of D&D! and the art of characters/monsters that is... well... pretty :smallwink:
and other tabletops. but lets try to keep it PG13

let me start with this:
http://www.iwozhere.com/SRD/images/MM35_PG198.jpg
must say that the art is more attractive in the 3.5 MM(this pic) than in the 3.0(the one with the blonde nymph) but hey, that might just be personal preference.

not so sure about the dryad though... miss that cute redhead...

Your thread frightens and confuses me. Are we discussing the vixens around the tabletops...

http://www.geekologie.com/2009/03/18/gamer%20chick.jpg

or the vixens portrayed upon the tabletops?

It's an important distinction.

While in general I love his style, very expressive and energetic, I don't like his orcs. Oh, they are sexy, but they look like humans with fangs. There isn't much that says 'orc'.

I always like it when men get some of the sexy spotlight.

It seems like all the men in D&D books are either huge and muscly or old and crotchety. Or an elf (which is just a variation on old and crotchety in which you remove the old and add in a face that looks like its always smelling something terrible and body language that has a larger stick up its ass than any paladin) Which is fine, but I'd like to see more variety.

Graz'zt is awesome. So is the Incubus in Savage Species who is using Savage Progression and learning how to be an Incubus by reading a book entitled "How to Pick Up Girls" which is adorable in its own way.

I'd like to see some hot guys in the brighter side of the alignment spectrum, personally. Why does "Lawful Good" and "Male" always have to mean "Uptight, boring, and unboneable". Hot masculine archons. We need them.

Riker is exempt on account of having one of those beard/mustache combos (is there a specific name for that?).

If he shaved his beard and put on glasses and a suit, though, he could definitely pass as cosplaying my dad.

And just because I happen to have it bookmarked: Why female breastplates do NOT need breast-bulges (http://l-clausewitz.livejournal.com/384382.html). And in the interests of clarity, I like looking at scantily-clad hot chicks, and will not stop supporting the companies that draw them as such. I don't care that they're unrealistic. But all of that that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the realistic ones just as much.

Weren't Kalashtar supposed to look almost entirely like humans? Were did the pointed ears come from?

Well, kalashtar are supposed to be humans. So that's lost upon.

However, Inspired have a hint of elven genetics upon them, so it's reasonable for the Chosen hosts to have pointy ears.

Then again, it's the 4th Edition version. Maybe they changed the Inspired and Kalashtar a bit?

My bad, I guess that's an Eladrin.

Something I always wondered: why does Graz'zt have six fingers? Is that some kind of nod to mythology or literature or something?

It simply adds to his otherworldliness, I suppose. Most demons are overtly inhuman, and in a world used to non-humanoid monsters, it doesn't scare people much. Graz'zt is mostly humanoid-looking, but his six fingers combine with that to make an overall more unsettling image. Instead of "RARGH I'LL KILL YOU!!!!", the art direction wanted him to project a "You might actually like this guy, but beware" image.

Also, found this bit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ala_(demon)
Six-fingered hands and toes are marks of demonic influence, apparently.

One of Goliath's brothers in the Bible was a Polydactyl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polydactyly#Fictional.2C_mythological_and_biblical _human_polydactyls) as well, and their lineage is somehow traced back to the Nephilim, if I'm not mistaken. Only links I could find.

Female breastplates may not need bulges for practical armor reasons, but there are other reasons to have them. David Eddings (say what you will about his books) had a good description of it in the Belgariad, when Ce'Nedra was having armor made for her. She told the armorer that the soldiers she was leading needed to know that they were looking at her. They needed to know that they were looking at a woman. Let's face it.... boobie bumps on armor are there for pretty much the same reason that stage makeup tends to be so outrageous when you look at it from close up. At a distance, everything tends to look the same unless it's exaggerated.

...besides.... I would think that for more well-endowed women... armor without bumps would chafe. Bad.

Yeah, that's pretty much the reason for it in fantasy and pageantry.

Properly sized for any woman over a B cup is going to be pretty obvious.....

Granted, most fantasy art depicts at least a DDD cup.... but still....

On breast-bumps, wouldn't a single chest-swell work a lot better? I mean, it's not quite as much fun to look at, but still. And it would only be neccesary on the particularly busty. Most girls in fantasy art, if this thread is an indication, could reasonably deal with a properly-sized breastplate and a liberal application of cloth wrappings.

And, nah, they'd just need properly sized armor and fitted harness.

Well that depends on what you consider "properly sized".

At least I know more than one well-endowed woman who tried wearing a men's breastplate and it was not possible for them to wear it comfortably. Of course, having two seperate "breast-bulges" on a woman's breastplate would be pretty stupid indeed for the reasons already cited. But that doesn't mean that there can't be any bulge at all.

We need them.Graz'zt is around 9 feet tall is perfectly muscled and is VERY eager to show off his midriff, he's also a demon and thus very, very old.

Just saying.

I see a distinct lack of lolth pictures in here. (to be fair i only checked out the first and last page )

I had a pair of not very plot relevant NPCs that were nevertheless often in the background in one of my campaigns. One was a female Chaotic Evil cultist of Graz'zt, and the other was a male Lawful Evil cultist of Levistus. The cultist of Levistus was very womanizing, and the cultist of Graz'zt was strong and confidant (one of my players kept referring to her as "The feminist bitch", but I didn't really think she was that way :smallsigh: ).

The two of them were married, and had a very "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" slap/slap/kiss relationship, if you've ever seen that movie. One of them would host an orgy in their living room, and damn 20 souls to their patron, and then the other one would go out in retaliation, seduce some nobleman and his family, and damn 5 really rich and powerful souls to their patron, and then they'd get home and the two of them would beat the crap out of each other for cheating and fall madly in love all over again.

I had one of the family's close friends describe it as "It was like the entirety of the Blood War was reenacted every morning over breakfast."

Devils corrupt. Demons destroy.

I think that that's kind of a 4e/maybe late 3.x thing. My 2e books, for example, clearly suggest that the Baatezu and Tanar'ri are both making significant efforts to corrupt mankind. The difference is that where the Baatezu offer mortals the power to control and dominate, to exert their will upon those around them, the Tanar'ri feed mortals' bestial appetites, depriving them of even the ability to control even themselves.

Erinyes are far more out of place than succubi.

Ah. That makes sense now.

This one is from this (http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=425871&page=72) thread, a good one for those interested in competent-looking female warriors:

Dang!! That photo looks so awesome!! I wonder who's the model...

...wait, why you say it's a drawing? It's certainly a photo, if you look closely...

...the signature? Well, I've seen digital cameras add the date to the JPEG; most probably that's a professional digital camera...?

Well, be it a photo or a drawing :P; time for more indulging of damsels! This one is a bit bad drawn, but it reminds of the Shadowmind posted earlier.

I don't know where exactly it is, but either in the PHB or the DMG there's a picture of Lidda near a treasure chest holding up some shiny thing and her other hand is...well, it's an odd drawing.

Then there's always the one where she's holding the magic item that's blown up in her face.

Judging from the way the armor appears to be made of lots of interlocking rings of metal, I'd say maille than scale. Scale, AFAIK, doesn't usually look like that.

Ooh. It's Qara the pyromaniac sorcerer from Neverwinter Nights 2. I preferred the sarcastic elf wizard to her since he's a lot funnier. Qara, on the other hand, is a whiny teenager with authority problems, but she's really well-drawn here.

No atonement necessary.

Those are kind of accurate, actually. When the age of alwhite plate hit (plate that's not covered up by anything), some knights would wear loincloths with their arms on them as an additional identifier, since full plate and shield (which is wear their identification would normally be located) weren't generally used together. Hers is longer than necessary - being wrapped around her leg like that it's actively dangerous, actually - but it's not out of line for a fighter in alwhite plate to have it at all.

Additionally, I've got my character portraits folder sorted pretty well, and one of the folders is "women with reasonably realistic armor". That pic is one of the headliners in that folder. It's a wonderful image. One of my faves for sure.

If we're allowed to link to stuff, this is my favorite artist I've seen on deviantart. He does D&D pictures of some of the important Archons, Devils, and Demons. Here are four of the devil ladies that I like (that have no nudity):

Fierna (http://johndowson.deviantart.com/art/Arch-duchess-Fierna-68872000)

Baalphegor (http://johndowson.deviantart.com/art/Baalphegor-consort-to-Mephisto-67158819)

Lilis (http://johndowson.deviantart.com/art/Lilis-consort-to-Dispater-66882814)

Belial's, Mephistopheles', Asmodeus', and Dispater's main squeezes, respectively.

Here's a silly one. Anyone ever read the Grimtooth's Traps series of books? They are full of bizzare and sadistic traps for DMs to spring on their players, all portrayed in a comical, almost Mad Magazine like tone.

The star of the books, Grimtooth the Troll, has a sister:

Is she sultry with her luxuriant hair done up, giving you steamy looks? It's a seductress! Don't let her flank you; best to sneak attack her first.

There was a time when men where true men and women were true women and both don't bothered with clothes, or armor. And Ugurcan Yüce destroyed my childhood with these pictures.

Yüce was the cover illustrator for the most popular German RPG during the 80s and 90s and many, many roleplayers of my generation have a fond nostalgia for his art. Especially since the artwork on the covers were basic wish fulfilment.

Besides, here in Germany our current national food was pretty much imported from Turkey and the Turkish community in Germany is not only the largest but also the culturally most influential minority here.
And it's somewhat unlikely that Turkish armies besiege Vienna for a third time...

It's simply a seiza position (a sitting position from various Japanese martial arts) with the legs spread slightly wide and a hand back for stabilization (since spreading the legs raises the center of gravity slightly). Nothing really unnatural about it.

Oh, the twist outward at the knees? Ice hockey goalies do that all the time - it's call the "butterfly" style of goaltending. Not everybody can do it easily, true, but it's hardly rare. Generally, you have to develop lateral motion in your knee joint, which is a trained thing, but a lot of people (including most of the top goaltenders) can do it naturally.

Because she has an ankle. Because the line of her shin doesn't match with the direction her upper leg is headed, indicating it's bent slighly. Because she has to have another leg which we can't see to understand exactly how she's standing.

It's not really kneeling so much as sitting. I see girls sit in that position a lot. They can do it due to their hip structure. I've never tried it, and don't want to.

Not... overwhelmed by her facial expressions. :(

Actually, on the first one the expression is not that bad the shape of the mouth and the look of the eyes works. It's the actual way the face is drawn that ruins it.

How about this woman for managing to be beautiful, graceful, and completely covered up all at once? Of course, I doubt they had airbrushing techniques that good back then, but...

Definitely Dragon. I mean, could have been Crane, but Dragons use two blades more often and Cranes are white-haired pretty boys.

Well, mostly the Daidoji have white hair. If it weren't for the two blades I can see why some might mistake her for a Crane (her kimono is all blue and all) but this is just Murimoto Kei, the Dragon Clan Champion, rolling out of bed and practicing her morning katas.

It disturbs me because it's not big enough to be Bowie from Labyrinth.

Seriously. :smallannoyed:

Frosty: Could you please spoiler that image so it doesn't distort the page as much? Thanks, mate.

Phoenix?

Man, I should know this one.

Phoenix?

Well her armor displays her mon prominently. She is of the Pheonix, and is in fact Shiba Tsukimk, clan champ of the Pheonix. The current batch of clan champs all seem to have graduated from the runway-model dojo.

And what about Scorpion?

What game is this celestial edition from?

Legends of the Five Rings is both a Collectible Card Game and a role-playing system/setting. Celestial Edition refers to the newest playset for the CCG.

Annnnd this guy's take on some D&D staples:
http://fc00.deviantart.com/fs23/i/2007/341/a/6/Mialee_by_staino.jpg
(yep, it's Mailee)

Of course it's Mailee, Mialee's hotter elven wizard sister. How can Mialee and Mailee be sisters, and one be so disgusting less graceful in comparison with this gorgeous girl?

Then again, there's Liamee...perhaps she's blonde?

To stay on topic: I found this one in Races of Destiny. Never mind the man and the half-elf (for the ; the woman looks much better than Mialee (and a bit like Lucy Lawless, aka Xena)

I'm amazed that no one's posted the White Sorceress from Exalted yet. Maybe because her outfit is as close to NSFW as you can get while still being safe for late-night TV. -->Fredrick's of Hollywood would blush at this get-up. Not that I'm complaining.
After a few minutes, you notice that there's a really cool Chinese Phoenix in the background.

Shameless cheesecake aside, I do dig women that can defend themselves without resorting a Charisma-based deflection bonus.

This is my favorite take on Red Sonja:http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w219/mwellenstein/Sci_Fan/red-sonja.jpg

Too scrawny, but I like the armor design: http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w219/mwellenstein/Sci_Fan/tempest.jpg

I do love Hyung Tae-Kim's artwork.

Fantasy heroines never need to be airbrushed. That is just understood.

I loved Matthew Wilson's covers for the Witchfire trilogy:

http://www.pen-paper.net/artgallery/d/11401-3/witchfire.jpeg

http://www.pen-paper.net/artgallery/d/11403-3/witchfire2.jpeg

Slightly creepy sorceress carrying a greatsword of unimaginable evil? This is relevant to my interests. (I also like how the greatsword at least resembles real weapons. Sadly, most D&D art seems to depict the greatsword as either just a glorified longsword or some kind of buster sword. <_< )
