DR 10/Slashing means the first 10 points of non-slashing damage from each source that deals damage to the creature are ignored, but does this also include magic? Would fireballs hitting this creature have 10 points of damage deducted? What about +5 bludgeoning weapons? On the note of +5 anything, how would damaging spells work on something with DR 10/+5?

Basically my question is how do spells relate to DR of any kind. DR #/magic is the only one that is completely obvious to me...

Spells ignore all DR. In DnD 3.5, DR x/+y no longer exists.

Spells are never affected by damage reduction. DR/Magic is to protect against physical but nonmagical weapons.

A fireball deals elemental damage, which ignores that kind of DR (but is faced with resistance to Fire).

DR X/+Y is 3.0, and no longer exists.

DR 10/+5 doesn't exist in 3.5, its a holdover from 3.0. If you have a book (such as the MM2) with such DR in it, check the WoTC site for the free update booklet.

Some pointers:

Cold Iron and Good - A weapon needs to be both good aligned and cold iron to overcome it.

Cold Iron or Good - A weapon must either cold iron or good to overcome it.

To clarify further, DR x/y was consolidated into DR x/magic and DR x/epic in 3.5. DR x/epic requires a weapon of over +5 total enhancement to hurt.

DR/silver was in 3.0, but was overcome by magic weapons as well- was effectively, one step below DR/+1.

In 3.5, no matter how good your magic weapon, if it isn't silver, the DR kicks in.
