I could swear I remember a thread on much this topic not that long ago, but can't find it on a search.

I'm building an epic Binder//Factotum, a Changeling to boot. In keeping with the theme of extreme versatility, I thought it'd be amusing to explore how adaptable a single weapon or item I could make for him to use (obviously it would be nice and arguably better for him to just use whatever easily-procured weapons suit the role he's playing at the moment, but at epic levels unfortunately that's probably a terrible idea). How easily can one make a weapon enchanted to become any weapon at all? Something like a sizing morphing shadowstriking X? (The character won't be changing size with any great frequency, so sizing might be the wrong enchantment here - what I'm really after is whatever lets a weapon go from a dagger to a greatsword, changing Light <-> Two-handed rather than Small <-> Large.) The ability to acquire things like reach or special properties like bonuses to trip, etc., would also be welcome, though I've no idea if there's an enchantment to do that.

Alternatively, as various vestiges do grand conjurable weapons or natural attacks, if anyone has advice on something other than a weapon to invest that gold in it'd be welcome. However, mostly I'm interested in seeing where this anyweapon concept can go.

Can you enchant a Rod of Lordly Might? It might be a good start.

You could always *gasp* homebrew something. I'd say the Anyweapon is a +3 enchantment.

Well, yes. But if it can be done with existing sources, I'd like to try, if only to get a guideline. Besides, building something weird out of innocuous existing elements is fun.

Metalline (MIC) allows you to change the Metal that your weapon is made of.

Morphing (MIC) allows you to change the weapon itself.

Both seem like they would help with what you're trying to do.

And, for reference reasons: The 3.5 Weapon Special Abilities thread (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=642656)

This post (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6177439&postcount=12) explains it fully. Reprinted for the lazy:

I think what you're looking for is a Morphing weapon (from Underdark, and I think it was reprinted several times), which can turn into any weapon of the same size as a Standard Action. If you want to change sizes, you need to enhance it with Sizing (Complete Adventurer), which can change sizes as Standard Action. If you want to overcome any DR, then you need Shadow Striking (www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20060303a&page=7) (Tome of Magic). If you want to be proficient with every weapon (including every exotic weapon), you should consider a Haberdash (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5266526) build. Alternatively, you can enchant it with Skillful (Complete Arcane), which gives you proficiency in the enchanted weapon and a minimum of 3/4 BAB. If you want your body to be any weapon, then head into the Kensai prestige class (Complete Warrior), which allows you to enchant your fists as magic weapons. Give them Morphing, Throwing (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/magicWeapons.htm#throwing), and Returning (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/magicWeapons.htm#returning) or the superior Teleporting (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/items/weapons.htm#teleporting). Be a Warforged, and get access to Alter Self and/or Polymorph. Now you're a transformer, with rocket fists!

Interestingly enough, there's some great synergy between Morphing, Skillful, and Kensai. Morphing + Skillful = proficiency in everything, which gives you access to all the Haberdash combos. Perhaps more interestingly, Kensai improve the BAB and Saves of an ally by taking a penalty to yours. But your BAB is boosted back up to 3/4 by the Skillful enhancement, and you can cover your Saves with Tome of Battle maneuvers (Action Before Thought, etc) because your Concentration check is so high. I'm pretty sure I wrote out the full build a while back - though it might have been lost in the cleanup.

That must have been the thread I was thinking of but couldn't find. Thanks.

In one of my games, the party has this weapon. It's a +2 Metalling Morphing Sizing Weapon. Metaling lets you change it to any metal available for weapons (which allows you to overcome a lot of DR stuff), Morphing changes it into any melee weapon, and Sizing changes the size, obviously. It's a +6 weapon, so expensive as hell, but a lot of fun. Although it does tend to draw attention in battle when you go from holding a steel shortsword to a cold iron greatsword.

That demon was not happy with me.

You know, looking at it, I'm not sure how well that works. Morphing changes the weapon within its "size and type", while sizing changes its "size category". Light/one-handed/two-handed won't take you from a dagger to a greatsword, just from a large-sized dagger to a small-sized dagger. Is there anything that will?

(On the other hand, even just morphing would do a lot of good towards the concept.)
