Hello. I decided to open a thread were people can talk about browser games, and this seemed like the best place. So everyone is free to recommend browser games they like, or just talk about them. Here is my favorite browser game (and the only one I'm still playing).

It's called eRepublik. It can be classified as a MMO Social Strategy. It is in fact somewhat like a second life, a new world. in eRepublik you are a citizen in a country. You can work, train, eat food, have a house, write a newspaper or be a politician or even be a successful manager and own a company.

Your eLife consist of daily work, training and eating food, which all give you experience points. After you have advanced you can start participating in wars and fight for your country. The most interesting thing in eRepublik is the fact that the most powerful countries in RL (Real Life) can be defeated by smaller countries that are not so powerfull in RL. For example, the most powerful countries in eRepublik are currently eHungary and eIndonesia, while only a few moths ago, it was eRomania and it's many allies that controlled half of the eWorld. I invite you to join in this game and help your eCountry become strong and prosperous, or perhaps you would like to become a well trained mercenary, or a respected journalist, or a politician, or perhaps build the biggest virtual company in the world?

The link to the game ----> eRepublik (http://www.erepublik.com/en/referrer/Petar+Pamuchar)

Feel free to send me an in-game message once you register if you need any help in getting along, my nick is Petar Pamuchar, and i would be more than happy to help all new eCitizens find their place in the eWorld.

Failoc-alypse (http://us.media.blizzard.com/blizzard/falth/failocalypse.html) is a fun little "joke" game created by Blizzard. It has no point, really, but it's a relatively amusing way to spend your time.

Armies of Gielinor (http://aog1.funorb.com/armiesofgielinor/8154/game.ws?js=1) is perhaps a more long-lasting option. It is a turn-based strategy game set in the world of RuneScape, and like that game, it is free, but you have to pay to get the good stuff.

And please, nobody bring up MyBrute.

And please, nobody bring up MyBrute.

Since you brought up MyBrute ... :smallamused: I'm still trying to understand that game (and all the other games by the same designers): not only do you not control your characters in the fights, which is kind of a cool idea for web browser game IMO as the fights are typically so mind-numbingly slow and repitive in such games, but you don't control your character build. So it's a game where you control amost nothing, and yet it's somewhat popular. I really wouldn't have expected that.

Still, games like Adventure Quest (or that spinoff, Dragon Quest?) could be improved significantly by automating the fights IMO. If you have an RPG where the fight mechanics are really very simple to master, with no important decisions being made during combat (not necessarily a bad thing for a web game IMO), why not just automate the battles?

Steamshovel Harry (http://www.e4.com/game/steamshovel-harry/play.e4), man.

May take a couple tries to really get it down, but man. It's awesome.

Sonny (http://www.kongregate.com/games/ArmorGames/sonny) is a strategy RPG. It's pretty simple, actually, but challenging. Just as a tip, going offensive is a LOT more effective than going defensive. Takes maybe two or three hours to finish. I really like how they handled skills.

Oh, and you get to play as a zombie.

Sonny 2 (http://www.sonny2.net/) is a direct sequel. While the first game had four 'classes' and Sonny 2 only has three, each class has a unique skillset, while in Sonny each class had the same skills. It's longer (maybe twice as long) and more difficult. You're also given total freedom when allocating your stats, while in the first game your stat growth was determined by your class, and you only got to choose how one stat point per level is placed.

Street Fighter 2: Championship Edition is now playable through a browser.

Linkage (http://www.kongregate.com/games/GameTap/street-fighter-2-ce)

It's not great but it's playable.

Found one by 2Dboy, of World of Goo fame.

It has ROBOTS!

Here it is. (http://2dboy.com/RobotAndTheCities/)

My deepest apologies to anyone who played Steamshovel Harry. Okay, maybe not. Maybe I just got some sick laughs from the whole thing.

Oh man, you're right, this game is really awesome. I'm not sure how to get past level 6, though. That gigantic space whale keeps killing me.

Perhaps I need to watch the intro again.

I bet you bought the wrong gear back at the shop.

Level six tends to be where you start regretting being a cheapskate. (Been there.)

Still, the physics model should see you through if you persist. Almost a shame about the balance issues, but it is a good enough game to make up for its minor failings.

...What? That game has worse loading times than my old laptop, and thats saying something.

I'm not sitting for 10 minutes through that pointless intro, only to have to go through it again when I die. :smallyuk:

Yeah, but even level one makes up for all the pain.
I'm so very sorry.
You did listen to the music, though? Good stuff, and level two's soundtrack is even better.

Billy vs SNAKEMAN (http://www.animecubed.com/billy/?86750)

It's an anime parody game heavily based on Naruto, but it's fairly entertaining. Pretty similar to KoL in the type of gameplay.

How to Raise a Dragon (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/502747)

Its really short (anywhere from one to eight minutes unless you're really slow.)

Its one of those "choose your path" except the paths aren't explicit. I've played it about 20 times today.

They're not exactly new, but I'm still a great fan of the GROW puzzle games Especially Grow RPG, a nice alternative take on that genre:smallsmile::

The others are good fun too, but I enjoyed RPG the most.

Eh, PEACE does some stuff I wouldn't necessarily agree with, and they forced Japan to give Indonesia a place to invade you guys from, but I like my government enought to ignore PEACE. They seem to do the same despite being a member of it. (oh, well I think I just kinda spilled some government secrets there... oops. Don't take this officially at any rate, cause I don't know much about anything)

A good browser game is Minecraft (http://minecraft.net/). Though I think infiniminer is better, this fits under the browser based category and has more players.

Nah, don't get me wrong, PEACE is fundamentally hypocritical and produces rather bothersome (and effective) trolls, but they provide something missing from the rest of the game.

Out of curiosity, what is your user name? It'd be nice to know some GitP people on there.

I would exchange some brief tidbits of our strategy, but that's mostly off limits to civilians, and you can freely read our government papers.

My eRepublic name is Amalith (http://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/profile/1443809). If you didn't guess already I'm a member of Japan.

I don't know why I can't see my avatar. it was up just a second ago. Can you see it?

Edit: okay, I'm just not seeing any user images. I guess I'll have to figure that out

Yeah, I see it. I was actually considering moving to eJapan, but the whole PEACE thing kinda put me off. I might move there when I start a business, but I'm really poor right now so it will take awhile.

Yeah, eJapan doesn't deal too heavily with PEACE despite being a founding member. They side with them, but stay out of most of the affairs it seems. And yeah, earning money takes a while. I stopped completely, and am now really losing it (I'm volunteer working for the Japanese Imperial Army... no, we aren't imperialistic. they just chose that name)

And now we're side-tracking this thread. maybe we should have an eRepublic thread like there used to be on this site (Its where I found the game in the first place).

From what I understand eJapan is allied with PEACE for defensive reasons, right? Nobody is going through a PEACE nation to attack another PEACE nation for whatever petty problems they cause.

I made that thread. I hope you don't mind me sticking your referral link in there.

Browser games, you say?

I must suggest Tribal Wars (http://www.tribalwars.net/4905496.html). A friend got me into it, and I've been hooked since.

It's fairly simple to begin with, and doesn't require much of your time each day for you to grow.
If anyone is interested, just check it out at that link. Make an account and get playing.
World 36. And spawn in the South East when given the choice, then message me and I'll see what I can do to help you out (name is still "Shovah").

Hope to see some of you in there.

I'm still on World 7, but I don't do very much...

I would recommend Shogun's Fate (http://www.shogunsfate.com/), because the game's damn good despite still being theorethically in beta and because the creator happens to be my personal friend from university (:smalltongue:), but the game's in Spanish for now and I'm not sure many people here are fluent enough in it.

Still, the only browser game I've ever really played.

I have been playing Star Pirates (http://www.starpirates.net/register.php?referer=27764) for the last 5 months and recently started in on Spy Battle (http://www.spybattle.net/register.php?referer=18435), both by Snakehead Games. They are very graphics lite games, more akin to the BBS text games from back in the day. Both of these games are set in the same universe and run along the lines of loot-n-level. I really enjoy Star Pirates and even play from my cell phone at times. There is a very strong community in Star Pirates (Spy battle has a much smaller player base) and while either game can be played for free, I strongly recommend upgrading your account to Notorious for Star Pirates or Special for Spy Battle. That costs $4.50 US for 30 days. You can spend more for other upgrades (but those upgrades can also be bought with ingame money, so can Notorious/Special for that matter)

If you give the game a spin, send me an ingame PM.

Played for a while now actually, but I've reached the point where it takes forever to get the next level/bit of good gear (and that RNG hates me too. :smalltongue:) so I'm pretty much just letting my bank fill up from mining.

Totally fun. I actually am considering buying the full version. Must resist until after the semester is over, though.

For my own contribution:

Fantastic Contraption (http://fantasticcontraption.com/) really cool building game.

Winter Bells (http://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/g3/bells.htm) A winter themed game full of cute that is harder than it looks.

Red Square (http://members.iinet.net.au/~pontipak/redsquare.html) super hard, but surprisingly addictive.
