Let's hear it for the most badass inventor ever! Some of his inventions we still can't duplicate--how's that for awesome?

Thank you Tesla for AC current in our homes, and crackpot conspiracy theories on our Internets.
Thank you.

Ah, yes. The tesla coil, maybe the greatest invention ever. I made one as a science project in high school and trust me, it's cool to be able to conduct enough power to make light bulbs shine!

Read on (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_conspiracy_theories), MacDuff. Basically a lot of 'free energy' hooey.

Happy Birthday Nikola Tesla!
Although it's weird we celebrate the birthday of the man who killed Abraham Lincoln.

Happy Birthday Nikola Tesla!
Although it's weird we celebrate the birthday of the man who killed Abraham Lincoln.

But he was born on May 10, not July 10. :smallconfused:

Also, Edwin Booth--JW Booth's brother--once saved the life of Robert Lincoln--Abe's son. What a coincidence, eh?

Also, the Tesla birthday comic:

You have to admit that it's pretty ballsy to try to come up with a way to harness the earth's rotation and magnetic field for harnessing electrical energy.

Also, that death ray is just wonderful for speculative fiction.

And you know who played the role of Nikola Tesla recently?

None other than every woman's dream come true, David Bowie the Lord of All Sexiness himself.

Hail David Bowie!

Well, to be fair, no one has yet tried to imbed gigantic diodes into the poles.

Which is pretty good for the poles, as I believe they just bleed to death when you do that to 'em. :smalltongue:

I once encountered some kind of theorem of conspiracy theories about how it gains credibility the more its mentioned but also with the less its mentioned.

@Rose Dragon: let's just gloss over the irony of casting the keeper of The Area as an asexual engineer...

With a naturally occuring codpiece like that, it's no wonder all the ladies were crazy for Tesla. :smallwink:

How did exactly an obscure nineteenth century scientist become an internet meme?

How did exactly an obscure nineteenth century scientist become an internet meme?

.............obscure? nineteenth century? Nikola Tesla is responsible for a lot of the inventions used today, far more responsible than Edison was, Edison, while being more commercially successful, didn't make that much of an influence because we still use the Tesla Coil today, I mean calling Nikola Tesla obscure is like calling....I dunno....calling some other famous guy not famous for some reason, that and I remember them being twentieth century engineers....

To be fair, Tesla was active in both centuries. Also, he is slightly famous for being overlooked...

...how does anything? Memes make no sense.

But yeah, Tesla is was pretty awesome.

If any of you ever happen to find yourselves in Croatia, be sure to drop by Tesla's house in Smiljan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smiljan), and the museum dedicated to his inventions. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the area is cared for and the interesting things in the museum. I'm not sure about any fees because I was in a large group at a time, but I still recommend seeing the place if you're able.

Also: KnightDisciple, that was one brilliant video! :)

Well, since someone already posted the Kate Beaton comic about Tesla, I suppose I'll just post these (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0EgScII7GU) two (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0tu_4Y_b_w&feature=related) very appropriate videos. :smallwink:

I will merely appreciate his invention of Atomic Robo.

Man knew what he was doing in the field of evil fighting robots.

Also, has anyone checked Tesla's grave recently?

Favorite. Scientist/engineer (He was both, you see). Ever.

For pete's sake! He claimed to make a device that could shoot down aircraft over two hundred miles away, it could go farther, but the curvature of the pesky earth got in the way.

Yeah, awesome.

That's a Daguerreoshop, though, I'm afraid. It looks impossible because it is.

If you checked Tesla's grave, you'd find it empty! Tesla isn't dead, although he is undead, what with being a vampire and all... :smalltongue:
