I really like the idea of a holographic character like the ones on Star Trek. This spell could be used to create sentient but intangible heralds, announcers, entertainers, actors, messengers, and for particularly lonely and sad wizard, friends.
Sentient Image
Level: Sor/Wiz 7
Components: V, S, M, F
Effect: Figment of creature the caster created with permanent image
Duration: Permanent (D)
Saving Throw: Will disbelief (if interacted with)
Spell Resistance: No
This spell gives a single illusory creature the ability to think, sense, and animate itself (including visual, auditory, olfactory, and thermal elements) within the limits of Permanent Image without the concentration of the caster. The creature is confined to one shape, even if it is a shapeshifting creature, and can only perform illusory versions of actions a normal member of that species is capable of doing. The caster can no longer directly control the illusion. Illusory creatures can be given any intelligence, wisdom, or charisma, below or equal to the caster's own ability score when they cast the spell. The caster can give the illusion any personality they choose, though usually they are created obedient to the caster.
A sentient illusion can be given instructions, told basic information, and retains a normal human-like memory of all it senses within the limits of its mind. Illusions can sense visual, auditory, olfactory, and thermal sensations as well as a human and they also have darkvision. Illusory creatures can speak and read any language the caster knows and wants them to be able to comprehend. They can make untrained checks for skills that do not require physical interaction, such as diplomacy, appraise, bluff, perform, sense motive, spot, and listen. The caster can also give them one rank in any knowledge skills the caster knows. They are immune to all harm, and cannot be targeted by spells that do not affect illusions.
A targeted Dispel Magic must be cast twice to destroy a sentient illusion. Once to temporarily suppress the Sentient Image spell like a magic item, and a second time while it is suppressed to dismiss the underlying Permanent Image. Illusions have no souls and once dispelled are utterly destroyed.
Material Component
A small piece of hair, skin, bone, or flesh from the same species as simulated. It need not have the same gender or appearance however.
Several semi-precious stones totaling 300gp.
