Are there any fun little things it could be used for? I don't see anything stating they have to be class skills (any ruleings that say it's 4 half ranks in that event?)

Use it on UMD.

I've been looking into Forgery a lot lately. You don't even really need many ranks in it, especially if you've got a high Int. Why? Guess what the opposed check (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/skills/forgery.htm) is...

Otherwise, yeah, UMD is good, but I'd prefer to have more than just the 4 ranks it gives you (since you can't have put any in it previously). Or you could use it for Autohypnosis (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/skills/autohypnosis.htm), another great skill with relatively low DCs.

*insert obligatory Matrix reference here*
i.e. "I know <skill name>" :smallcool:

I never much cared for it, but 5 ranks in Balance or Tumble gives a few added benefits.

Beyond that? Picking up free ranks in a cross-class skill, picking up knowledge or other "Trained Only" skills, or easy qualifications for synergy bonuses.

I think I used 2 levels of loremaster for a "skilly mcbardy" build before (bard X / loremaster 2). Instant mastery made up for the lost skill points while loremaster essentially granted a 2nd usage of bardic knowledge while keeping your casting. You lose a little BAB and 2 levels of music, but as the party all-purpose utility-monkey it made no difference.

Forgery. Why? Because no one takes Forgery.
