Homebrew Prestige Class
The Knowledge Seeker
Throughout all of the lands, these men are sought after to enlighten and educate the nobility, even more so than wizards. These, often simple looking, humble men are the Knowledge seekers; blessed with powerful memories and sharp minds these men relish a challenge, and will always seek out knowledge. These men and women are all followers of the Way of Knowledge, and become the greatest warriors, mages, and specialists in the known lands. The dream of the greatest of the knowledge seekers is to attain immortality, so that their search for all the knowledge of the universe never needs to end.
Alignment: Any, as they can all use any knowledge they obtain for their own uses. Tend to be Lawful Neutral for all of the order required to keep that much knowledge, also many true neutral.

Level: 5
Age: Human: 30, Dwarf: 80, Elf: 200. (Creatures of similar life spans have equivalent numbers)
Class Skills: Knowledge (all), Decipher Script, Appraise, Concentration, Gather Information, Search, Spot, Use Magic Device, 6 Crafts
Skill Points at each level: 10+int modifier.

Quick Reader: Having explored the world in search of knowledge, a Knowledge Seeker has read many tomes, and may therefore learn anything that a book can teach in half the time it normally would.
Skilful: A knowledge seeker has learned much from specialists around the world, and has been taught a few tricks, he can therefore spend 4 skill points on any skill to make it a class skill.
Cursed to Learn: A Knowledge Seeker has a dreadful desire to always learn more. He must therefore always put at least 2 skill points into a knowledge skill.
All knowing: Since the Seekers of Knowledge spend their lives learning, they no longer have a cap on the number of skill points they can put in to knowledge skills.
The Way: A knowledge seeker devotes himself to a certain branch of learning, these branches are as follows, Warrior, Mage, and Skilled.
Weapon Learner: Men who follow the Way of the Warrior are experts in the use of all weapons, and can therefore take any weapon proficiency feat at the cost of 4 Skill points.
Weapon Learner II: Now costs 3 skill points
Weapon Learner III: Now costs 2 skill points
Weapon Learner IV: Now costs 1 skill point
Body Beyond Age: One who follows the way of the warrior goes through rigorous daily training, and therefore no longer suffers the negative effects of aging.
Item Creation: One who follows the way of the Mage learns of all the tools around him easily, and may therefore take any Item Creation feat for 4 skill points.
Item Creation II: Now costs 3 skill points.
Item Creation III: Now costs 2 skill points.
Item Creation IV: Now costs 1 skill point.
Most Skilled: One who follows the way of the skilled may hone their abilities as they see fit, they therefore now count every skill as a class skill.
Specialist: He that follows the Way of the Warrior, will master the use of all his weapons, he can therefore take a weapon focus feat at the cost of 4 skill points.
Specialist II: Now costs 3 skill points.
Specialist III: Now costs 2 skill points.
Specialist IV: Now Costs 1 skill point.
Spell Master: One that learns the Way of the Mage goes out of his way to learn new spells, he can therefore spend 1 skill point/spell level to learn a new spell. (This means that the wizard will have more spells in his spell books, and the Sorcerer will know more spells.)
Enhanced Caster: He that follows the Way of the Mage will learn all of the tricks towards casting his spells and can now take metamagic feat for 4 skill points.
Enhanced Caster II: Now Costs 3 skill points.
Enhanced Caster III: Now costs 2 skill points.
Enhanced Caster IV: Now costs 1 skill point.
Skilled One: One that follows the way of the Skilled has a much more diverse tree of knowledge, he can therefore take any feat, other than combat, item creation, and metamagic, for 4 skill points.
Skilled One II: Now Costs 3 skill points.
Skilled One III: Now costs 2 skill points.
Skilled One IV: Now costs 1 point.
Weapon Master: Having lived a long life practicing with many weapons, the Weapon Master becomes proficient in all weapon types.
Toned: One that has mastered the Way of The Warrior has trained his body to nearly perfection, he therefore chooses either Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution and increases it to 25 for 10 skill points.
Item Creator: The Item creator, has practiced the art of crafting for a very long time, he now has every Item Creation feat, as well as a +2 bonus to all craft skills.
Enlightened: One that has Mastered the Way of the Mage has let his mind expand beyond the point of any normal mortal, he can therefore choose either Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma(Archais and Sanctum as well in Dromolien) and bring it up to 25 for 10 skill points.
Master of his Own: He has spent his life training body and mind for that of which he wills, the one who masters the Way of the Skilled may choose any ability and augment it to 25 at the cost of half of his skill points for that level.

It would be helpful for those wanting to read this to have a chart , most people respond to a chart .

And the paths should be in a spoiler tag so that people aren't bombarded with text , I find that people don't like long posts , although if it is in a spoiler they will read it .

but if I had to respond to one aspect of your PRC Class , I would say that
Enlightened , Toned and Master of his Own , are well , they shouldn't exist , well in my opinion anyways . Something like that is to ripe for abuse .

For example : Strength : ------Epic levels of strength at lvl 15

Wisdom : I pass my will save ?

I have never seen an ability increase with skill points before , it's somewhat bizzare so I would have to have a second opionion on if something like this has ever been done before , and see how it worked out for everyone invovled .

And also , in PRC the Base Attack Bonus doesn't give extra attacks but simply increases for example :

+1
+2
+3
+4
+5
+6
+7
+8
+9
+10

and then you calculate your bab by adding the PRC bab to the Base Class BAB , however this is how WOTC and other d20 publishers did it .

Frankly an ability at 25 is not that high. Magic Items, and other such techniques make it easily attainable. Also, very few people are eligable to take this at level 5 due to the requirements, believe me 18 int is fairly hard to get naturally, which is the only type that counts, also only level 5 would be foolish to take for all but maybe one who wishes to follow way of the Skilled. Wizard would be kind of pointless that low as he would no longer gain the ability to cast more spells or stronger spells until he put more in Wizard. Fighter needs to cross class to something with knowledge skill before being able to take this PRC therefore, not likely to be taken by most until the double digit levels, depending on desire or needs.

It's the guide to homebrewing , it's a good read and has helped me many a time when I was first starting to make a 'professional' looking thread .


When we look at the : Enlightened , Toned and Master of his Own . Again I must say that getting 25 with magic items is fairly hard , due to the charts based on Average Wealth by Level charts and the fact that bonuses of the same type don't stack so you can't have + 5 con shirt , +5 con , glove , +5 con helm type deal , unless the economy is good enought for + 5 items that raise attributes , so that anyone could buy them , believe that characters would have a hard time aquiring these items .

Now I can see someone that got an 18 intelligence raising that intelligence with every attribute score and then getting a +3 intelligence headband at some point to have a stat of around 26 that's good , but let's say that same character is a knowledge seeker , and then he raises his base intelligence to 25 , so that gives us a 28 base intelligence bonus (3 ability score attributes raised into intelligence) and then the +3 int item makes it 31 . This could be an example for other attributes also , it seems that it is broken .And if one interprets the Ability to raise an ability to 25 , as +25 to an ability score (In which I hope you don't mean) , your into even more trouble , to the point where if one Places this in wisdom , you say "If it isn't a 1 I pass my will save" type deal .

If you feel this way about the Wizard and Fighter options , Have you included those paths just so that it would be a bad PRC choice , or to distract those not looking at the "Way of the skilled" which seems to be a combination of both the Fighter and Mage options . In which case , if the Way of the skilled path is a 'perfect' combination of both those paths maybe it would be a benefit to the PRC here to eliminate those 2 paths since you have said yourself the options for those two classes would be a waste of their better levels they could take .


However , if you don't intent to edit those paths and keep them somewhat as is , I think you should re-consider the Wizards and Sorcerors gain more spells if they spend skill points deal . Sorcerors don't need matirial components for their spells , and they have a limited number of spells known to keep it on par with Intelligence prepatory Wizard . Something tells me that the Sorc with more spells known is dangerous , everyone would love to play that juicy Sorc , to be honest maybe that option is a PRC theme all of it's own , The Juicy Sorc , sorry about being de-railed I will continue .... This should be geared towards a rogue character or characters which base classes have large numbers of skill points , there are reasons why skill points aren't handed out like little candies to fighters and wizards . They have other options but the Rogue needs them to be , well , to be the 'specialist' in the many seedy talents that rogues enjoy .

No it is not +25
It is not meant for people to look at way of the skilled, Mage and Warrior are just as powerful.
Let me be clearer.
Most people that will take Warrior are Fighters, They have 0 Knowledge skills, therefore they must either be a combat class with a knowledge skill or cross class.
Mage is not meant to be taken early, although there is no restriction on doing that as its purpose is to, not increase levels of spells cast, nor be able to cast more spells, but to create the ability for the caster to have more spells available, and to empower no spells, there fore a level five wizard who can only cast low level spells, and very few per day, is not likely to take this class as he would be empowering his meagre powers, however a level 20 wizard may take this so that he might increase his skill selection as well as augment the number of spells in his arsenal, and empower the spells he has. This path is even better for the Sorceror, who only knows so many spells, this removes that restriction, a powerful tool indeed.
Skilled is not a class meant for combat, but for being in a supporting role. it gains few abilities that help in combat, other than the few skills, such as tumble, that may help, but it really aids the party with a character that can be a great adventuring champ, be it jumping chasms or finding enemies, this is the Way for that.
The Ways are meant to cover the three basic rolls of the party:
Warrior=Combat
Mage=Magic
Skilled=Scout

Yes the gaining spells ability is powerful for Sorcerors, but as I mentioned previously, they would have to stop their Sorceror progression to come to this, therefore, much like Wizard, not viable until higher levels, therefore, I findf it is a safe power to grant.
