View Full Version : Why does 669 have a darker white frame?

When I tilt my screen I can see a (darker) white frame around the comic. Am I the only one who sees this?

That's just the image itself. For one reason or another it's not the exact same white as the background.

I noticed it too. I was going to mention it in the main thread, but then thought, "Nah... no one reads the main thread. They just post 'Great comic, Giant!'".

Then I considered making a thread for it, but thought it would only get merged with the main thread anyway.

So, um, yeah.

Are you reading it on a laptop? The comic looks the same to me.

If you tilt the screen (so that white becomes darker), you can sort of see that the border is a darker color than the page background. I opened it in an image program, and yes, the values are 251,253,250 instead of the usual 255,255,255 (pure white).

Probably a minor change for printing purposes, maybe.

Wow. You must be bored. :smalltongue:

Or a mistake? The slider was not entirely to the lower right corner and bingo... not a pure white as background. ;)

I AM BORED.

I graduated over a month ago. I spend all morning going over all the potential job sites, and the rest of the day trolling the internets/coding things to keep my skills up.

It's way too easy to flip over to message boards when you hit a lull in the coding when there isn't a boss to yell at you.

Trolling the internets IS a full-time job!

Unless you go to a Jonas Brothers fansite, then you can knock it out in 15 minutes. :smallwink:

There's a word for Dark white, it's call 'Pink'... wait I mean Lightish Gray. Gah!

I actually thought it was very slightly greenish.

I actually thought it was very slightly greenish.

So did I. I can see it.

Yep. Definitely slightly greenish.

Interesting... if I go very close to the screen and move my head a little, I can see the faint colour difference for a moment. I wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't pointed out. It looks a little grey to me, not green.

One forum I was on a long time ago was programmed to not accept white text. However, the software allowed you do define any other color, so 254,254,254 worked perfectly fine for those "secret" messages. :smallwink:

I've seen this kind of thing before when I do image editing. It looks like maybe Rich had the color settings set not quite right when he saved the image from whatever he uses to make it (I would think Adobe Illustrator or something like it)

Now that you mention it, I do see something...I also went back a couple comics and looked, and I don't see it.

To my eyes it is the same as 668 but darker then 667. Hmmm

Why does 669 have a darker white frame?

As my mother says, it is so that people with nothing to say can have something to talk about.

My theory on this is Rich is very very close to the end of this part of the story and what you're seeing is a scan of a printing proof (or whatever you call the things you send to the printers) of book 4.

Or maybe he had a little bit of spare green?

Speaking as someone posting during a lull in the coding at work, it's just as easy when there is a boss to yell at you.
