Question for the forum at large.

It seems that there are a lot of people who want to argue issues raised by the current strip, which are a violation of forum rules.

So my question: Is there another forum, somewhere else on the web, where we can take that discussion as a group? Somewhere where we can tackle issues like religion and politics without wasting Rich's server space?

If the playground is a bar, I'm looking for somewhere else we can metaphorically 'step outside', beat each other to a pulp, then come back here and behave like adults so we can stay customers and not have Rich reach under the bar for his .38 or have Roland the Bouncer bang our heads together.

I'm wondering

Respectfully,

Brian P.

Well, there's always real life where you can talk to real people without a filter. And if this makes you sad you can't argue with the people that use this forum about religion, then, what makes you think they'll argue with you on some other website.

There are lots of forums and communities and ways to create new ones out there. You mean a pre-existing one? Not that I know of.

I spend a lot of time on Livejournal; I've always wished there was an active GitP LJ community, although not so much one just for the religion and real world politics flames. Mostly because I find it easier to track discussions (and ignore sidelines I'm not interested in) in that format.

Well, there is an OotS community, with the intuitive name of "Orderofthestick", and you probably could talk about the touchier issues of this strip in the appropriate post over there.

That comm is reasonably active, though I think most people either don't do serious discussion or save it for elsewhere.

Well there's always the dedicated threads over at Forumopolis (http://www.forumopolis.com/showthread.php?t=75023) or Something Awful (http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2300198).

However those boards are a bit.... Rough and Tumble. So they might not be for everyone's tastes. :smallwink:

Nuklear Power (http://forum.nuklearpower.com/showthread.php?t=35072) and and HERO Games (http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44696) also have very long lasting threads covering OotS. And they seem to be a bit more on the Free Wheeling Discussion side.

EN World, if anything, has a more restrcitive No Real Life Discussion mantra, so they're out. I'm not sure what RPG.net's (http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=453926) ToC is, but it might be OK over there.

I recently found out about threads over at Straight Dope (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=504715) and Quarter to Three (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?t=31931), but I haven't lurked at either place enuf to get a feel of them.

There are several other Dedicated Threads sprinkled throughtout the net, but a lot of them seem to be pretty community orientated (i.e. a bunch of "board regulars" chatting about the comic), so I don't know how they'd feel about people charging in. :smallwink:

Best advice I can give? Look around or Google Search. It ain't that hard to find discussions about Order of the Stick. :smallwink:

I'm a fan of the largely forgotten social site Tribe.net. I like it because unlike MyFace and similar sites, it's really all about the discussion groups, and the blogging and personal profiles are there but secondary. It's a lot like the old Usenet, with better graphics.

In the spirit of proactivity I just created a discussion group Things You Can't Say On the OotS Forum (http://tribes.tribe.net/ootsstuff). The idea is to be a flame-free, civil place for discussing topics relevant to The Order of the Stick but frowned upon by the OotS Forum gatekeepers.

If that interests you, please check it out - no different than joining this or any other forum, really. If there's little or no interest, I'll just delete it in a few days.

Looks like a good idea. I'll check it out.

One exists. (http://ootsforum.myfreeforum.org/) But it's never had much use.

Not really surprising - people tend to congregate where most of the discussion is happening.

It just seems that #669 is so chock-full of elements Not to Be Mentioned in the Forum that perhaps thre was enough of a need for a place to discuss such things.

Spy-
I definitly know what you mean about some iffy content in 699. A few years ago and I would be right with you on creating a discussion of such themes, but i've learned since that I wanna stay far and away from anything of the sort on the internet, especially on forums with people i don't know.

Best of luck, though.

I expect he's quite good at hiding in jigsaw puzzles though.
