So I'm making a Cerebremancer. Yes, I know, Theurges aren't so hot, yes, I know, it should have some class abilities or something, to make up for its loss of caster/manifester level, but it doesn't and I'm doing is anyway. And I'm doing it the way it was presumably intended, Psion 3, Wizard 3, Cerebremancer 10, no Precocious Apprentice or whatever people use to get into it at level 4. I know, I know.

We're starting from level 1, so right now I'm just a Psion. He's a Telepath; for Wizard I'll be a specialist and ban Enchantment and Evocation. Between humanity, flaws, level, and class, I have Improved Initiative, Psionic Body, Psionic Endowment + Greater, and Psionic Talent. I'm pretty obviously going to take Practiced Spellcaster and Practiced Manifester, and plan on taking Psionic Meditation at some point. I'm not thoroughly convinced that (Greater) Psionic Endowment is the best use of my Psionic Focus, so feel free to comment on that. The rest of the feats, I'm pretty sure about.

My character is Old, so -1 to physical abilities and +1 to mental. Thus, his abilities are:

Str 6
Dex 7
Con 13
Int 18
Wis 12
Cha 17
No, I'm not dumping Cha, nor am I dumping Wis, yes, I'm taking a -2 modifier on Str and Dex. These were rolled, and these are the assignments for the values that best fit the character concept. Not meant to be optimized. I might have dumped Wis if it wasn't for the Wis 13 requirement on Psionic Meditation; currently I plan on putting my level 8 bonus into Wis and taking Psionic Meditation at 9. Psionic Meditation seems very useful, especially if I want to Quicken any powers, which I'm probably going to want to. But thoughts on whether or not I shouldn't just dump Wis, give up on Psionic Meditation, etc, I will listen to.

So, anyway, I have two main questions. First, what feats are best? Are there any feats that combine Psionics and Magic? The only one I could find was Psiotheurge, which is pretty useless if I take the Practiced Spellcaster/Manifester; I could save a feat and take only Psiotheurge, but that limits me a lot in terms of which schools/disciplines I'm using.

Secondly, what should I take at level 17? Our DM says that he plans on getting us to 20, so at that point I can't continue taking Cerebremancer levels. What class(es) are best to be looking at for the last four levels?

Um . . . there is an epic cerebramancer so you could continue taking it

Epic progressions are only available at Epic levels.

There aren't many PrCs for Psions out there and most of them involve dropping a ML which you've already done enough of.
So really, you want to find a good Wizard PrC for those last 4 levels.

I would also guess (though I don't know what book the Epic Cerebremancer is in) that it follows the trend set by Epic Mystic Theurge, and alternate ML/CL advancement instead of doing both every level.

Anyway, I figure 9th level spells are better than 9th level powers anyway, so it makes sense to continue Wizard over Psion. Hmm... Loremaster would work rather well simply for the character concept, and only one feat that I could buy back... Hmm...

If you're prioritizing Wizard over Telepath, then the Cerebremetamagic feat (from Dragon #349, the same as the Psiotheurge feat you looked at earlier) is great. It lets you burn power points to cast metamagic'd spells in the base spell's slot.

Don't you mean Middel Aged? (Old gives -3 to physical stats and +2 to mental stats).

Ooh, thanks for that. That's a big one. See if the DM allows it. Free metamagic is on a lot of DMs' short lists of things to ban on sight, so we'll see.

What I'd really love is a way to apply metamagic/psionics to the opposite type, so I don't have to get two of every feat I want...

I did notice that, yes, and definitely intend to take them.
