View Full Version : Battle Royale #3

Calamity
2009-07-21, 04:49 PM
Yes, that's right. Having 7 weeks of free time available means that I am finally doing a third version of Battle Royale. Corridors was a big no unfortunately, since I suffer from writer's block too much, as evidenced the last two times I tried to host it...

But anyway, I digress, it's back and so are it's rules, now with significantly less typos!:

1) Every player starts with 40HP
2) Everyone will roll a d20 for initiative at the start of each round. I'll be using http://www.invisiblecastle.com for all the dice rolls.
3) Every player will have a normal attack that deals 1d20 damage (Yep, more luck than skill is needed!)
4) There are currently 10 classes (if you have suggestions for others I will be willing to hear them!).
5) The classes each have their own special ability, which will be listed below. The ablities can only be used every 3 rounds! (So if you use it in round #1 you can't use it until round #4.) The Monk, Ninja and Barbarian abilities are exceptions and can only be used every 5 rounds.
6) The classes will be distributed around players randomly and as evenly possible. If you would like a particular class then please say so in a PM or in this thread. If everyone wants a particular class then I am sorry but some of you will be disappointed.
7) You choose your action each round, whether you're just gonna attack or use your special ability, please send these actions in PM's.
8) Have fun!
9) If you don't send in an action during a round, the inactivity demon will come in and deal 1d10 damage to you
10) You will have 2 days to pm your actions, choose them wisely!

You read them? Good.

Here are the classes:
Swordsman/woman: Swordsmanship: Do 1d20+8 damage to any target
Wizard: Barrier: 1d10 damage to anyone who attacks the casting mage. Their attack is still executed but halved
Rogue: Hide: Can't be attacked until the next round.
Archer: Rapid Shot: Deals 1d12+3 damage to two targets.
Monk: Pray: Damage done to the praying monk is halved, damage dealt by the praying monk is also halved (rounded down). This lasts for 3 rounds.
Cleric: Heal: 1d10 HP is granted to target
Ninja: Ninja's Speed: +5 to initiative for 3 rounds
Sorceror/Sorceress:Fireball: Select an initiative value. Everyone within 2 initiative of that value takes 1d10 damage.
Barbarian:Rage: For the next three rounds the babarian gets +5 damage to all attacks, but all attacks against him/her get +3 damage.
Negotiator:Convince: Choose a target of your choice's next action.

3 new classes this time around, I must have been feeling generous. :smalltongue:

Ok, well, I'm no longer taking actions, Round 1 will be posted soon.

Calamity
2009-07-26, 10:31 AM
Here it is, Round 1:

Initiative 17
billtodamax starts with an attack on Kyouhen for 19 damage! (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2182212/)
Opeth_Freak sends a fireball to initiative 14. The blast causes mayhem: Fleeing Coward takes 2 damage, The Bookworm takes 4 damage, Dirk Kris takes the full 10 damage, Kyouhen takes 4 damage and Hero 1.0 takes 2 damage. (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2182216/)

Initiative 16
Fleeing Coward launches an attack on Hero 1.0. The Swordsman takes 8 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2182222/)
The Bookworm decides he doesn't like the negotiating type and attacks Reinholdt. Reinholdt takes 10 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2182224/)
Dirk Kris also starts with an attack. His target is Fin, and he takes 18 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2182227/)

Initiative 13
The punishment towards Hero 1.0 continues as Kyouhen deals 17 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2182229/) to him

Initiative 12
Battered and bruised, Hero 1.0 appears to have already given up as he allows himself to get hurt even more by the inactivity demon. 4 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2182230/)

Initiative 9
Having already felt some pain, Fin decides he doesn't like it and hides away.

Initiative 7
Aemoh goes into a rage. Rawrgh!

Initiative 6
Reinholdt manages to convince The Bookworm to heal him next round despite the fact that the cleric had already attacked him.

Initiative 1
And it looks like Reinholdt will probably need that heal as Lord Fullbladder attacks him for 12 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2182233/)

-------

At the end of the round, things look like this:
{table]Player | Role | HP | Status

I'm late, sorry.
Round 2 will be up soon.

Calamity
2009-07-28, 01:19 PM
Here it is, the second round!:

Initiative 16
Fleeing Coward prays, and receives a blessing.

Initiative 13
Dirk Kris starts the violence for this round, with an attack to billtodamax. It only deals a meager 2 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2185904/) though

Initiative 10
Opeth_Freak attacks Kyouhen. The dice seem cruel today, as Opeth_Freak also only manages 2 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2185908/)

Initiative 7
But Kyouhen is not safe yet as he suffers another attack, this time from billtodamax. He manages to do more harm than the previous attacker: 7 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2185911/)

Initiative 6
Lord Fullbladder decides to attack Fleeing Coward. However, due to Fleeing Coward's prayer, he is only able to deal half damage. 2 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2185919/)

Initiative 5
The barbarian Aemoh attacks billtodamax, still in his rage. He deals 11 damage. (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2185925/)
Reinholdt attacks Lord Fullbladder. He deals quite a bit of damage, at least, by this round's standards, 13 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2185929/), in fact.

Initiative 4
Kyouhen decides to take advantage of the raging barbarian's open defences. He deals 13 damage. (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2185931/)
Hero 1.0 decides he's going to do something this round, and boy, does he have a big effect. He uses his Swordsmanship to deliver a lethal attack to Kyouhen. A massive 19 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2185933/) is dealt. Kyouhen becomes the first casualty.

Initiative 2
Fin could've provided us with our second casualty, but he only manages to deal 6 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2185934/) to Hero 1.0, who still clings on to life.

Initiative 1
The Bookworm doesn't have much of a choice, so he heals Reinholdt. Reinholdt gains 6 HP (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2185937/)

-----------------

Round 2 is over; here is how things stand:

{table]Player | Role | HP | Status
Kyouhen |Archer|DEAD|

Well, what a round. After the first round, it looked like Hero 1.0 would be our first casualty for sure, but ironically, it was him who delivered the first lethal blow. So there you have it, folks. There's one down, but nine still need to fall, so send in your actions by Thursday 30th July, 7:00 PM GMT

Initiative 15

The Bookworm decides to attack Lord Fullbladder... for a massive 1 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2189358/)

Opeth_Freak makes Aemoh suffer. Well, not that much, as he only deals 6 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2189364/)

Initiative 3
Somehow, Hero 1.0 summons the strength to attack Fin. He deals 10 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2189365/). Fin does not get up this time.

Reinholdt decides he's going to attack Opeth_Freak. He does so, and deals 9 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2189369/)

Hero 1.0... dies at the hands of the inactivity demon.

Initiative 17
Fleeing Coward decides to attack Aemoh. He deals 13 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2192000/), which is then halved and rounded down to 6! Aemoh is unable to survive the blow.

Initiative 12
Lord Fullbladder becomes the inactivity demon's second target this round! He takes 2 damage. (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2192004/)

Initiative 11
I don't know how he manages it, but Reinholdt convinces Opeth_Freak to aim a Fireball at initiative 6.

Aemoh... well, he just lies there, he is dead after all.

Initiative 6
billtodamax mutilates Aemoh's corpse.

Opeth_Freak

How did Reinholdt manage to convince Opeth_Freak to fireball himself, anyway?

Actually I'm surprised as well, because from the wording I thought that Fireball is the only power, the Negotiator cannot use against others, since I thought, initiative number is not actually a target which could be changed... But, I guess this isn't Magic: The Gathering, and the word 'target' is not so magical and important, so instead of complaining, I will clap my hands, because that was awesome, Reinholdt

And yes, I'm gonna finish you off. :smalltongue:

Don't worry though, as you can see from my dice rolls, my own Murphy's Law is working: If you have a nice weapon, and you have to roll damage with a dice - there's no way it's gonna do any serious damage... Unless it's used against yourself :smallannoyed:

Calamity
2009-08-02, 07:54 AM
Negotiator:Convince: Choose a target of your choice's next action.

Actually, there's nothing here that implies that a Negotiator can't choose Fireball. The target here means who he is convincing. (So, even if you didn't get hit by the Fireball he orders, you would still be the target of convince.) And Reinholdt didn't say 'target' Opeth_Freak with the fireball, he said around initiative 6. You were caught in the centre of that blast because you were at initiative 6, so it's practically the same thing as targeting yourself.

Phew... I hope that wasn't too confusing.

Opeth_Freak
2009-08-02, 08:18 AM
I know, I know.. As I said, my point of view was very Magic: The Gathering-like, hence the surprise. Everything is fine (at least if Reinholdt will finally die next turn :smalltongue:).

Round 5:

Initiative 19
Fleeing Coward attacks the person acting at the same time as him, The Bookworm! 15 damage! (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2194699/) But its halved and rounded down to 7 damage!
The Bookworm instantly heals himself. He gains... 1 HP (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2194702/)

Initiative 13
Lord Fullbladder attacks Fleeing Coward! He deals 6 damage, (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2194704/) but it is halved to 3!

Initiative 12
billtodamax puts up a magical barrier!

Initiative 11
Dirk Kris also puts up a barrier. Everyone's on the defensive!

Initiative 10
Well, not exactly... Opeth_Freak tries to finish off Reinholdt. And he does so exactly! 6 damage! (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2194706/) Reinholdt falls!

Initiative 1
Reinholdt wasn't planning on doing anything anyway, so he doesn't. Presumably because he's dead, rather than the fact he hadn't planned anything.

---------

Well, no real surprises there, here's how things are now:

5) Dirk Kris (4)
6) Lord Fullbladder (1)

------------

Things went quite badly for several people in this round. (Mainly Reinholdt, but that was to be expected :smalltongue:) However, a lot of people didn't have much luck with their special abilities. With 5 out of 6 special abilities on cooldown, Round 6 could potentially turn into a very bloody round. But, will it? Send in your actions by Wednesday 5th August, 9:00PM GMT!

Fleeing Coward is amazing. He won all but one initiative rolls. Fascinating. The chicken is fast.

It's Round 7!:

Initiative 19
Fleeing Coward make the first move... yet again. He attacks Opeth_Freak for a hefty 16 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2201294/)

Initiative 14
billtodamax attacks the Fleeing Coward! The monk suffers 14 damage. (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2201297/)

Opeth_Freak tries to finish off Fleeing Coward. But he fails! He only managed 1 damage! (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2201301/)

Initiative 5
But Fleeing Coward isn't safe yet! Dirk Kris also tries to take him out! And he suceeds with a harsh blow that deals 16 damage! (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2201304/)

Initiative 2
The Bookworm decides that Fleeing Coward hasn't had enough punishment yet and mutilates his corspe.

Wow, poor, poor Fleeing Coward.

It's funny, but with bad rolls and players trying to get optimum killing this round, DK actually has not a horrible chance of survival. Not one I'd bet on unless the odds were sweet, but still. They have to have two people attack him, but the Cleric has the heal, and everyone is scattered enough so Fireball doesn't matter.

Initiative 20
Dirk Kris gets attacked by the inactivity demon. He takes 5 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2204358/)

Initiative 17
billtodamax sets up a barrier.

Initiative 11
Opeth_Freak attacks billtodamax, but is hurt by the barrier! He suffers 9 damage! (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2204366/) and his attack gets through and deals 19 damage! (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2204370/)The barrier reduces that damage to 9.
Both Opeth_Freak and billtodamax fall to the ground and pass away!

Initiative 2
The Bookworm tries to take down what is now the only thing standing inbetween him and victory, Dirk Kris! But only manages 1 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2204375/)... that's really anticlimatic.

Dirk Kris attacks The Bookworm! Can he win the match with this blow? No! He can't! The Bookworm takes 6 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2205568/)! He's still alive (just)!

Initiative 13
This is The Bookworm's chance now! He attacks Dirk Kris, (duh). And deals 16 damage! (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2205569/) Dirk Kris falls, and we have found a winner!

Congratulations to the winner of Battle Royale 3, with just 1 hitpoint left, The Bookworm! You are the Battle Royale Champion!

Of course, no champion should go without a trophy, so here it is:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b249/Photouser_/BR3trophy.png

Well, for those of you who did not make it, and for those of you watching with interest, fear not! For there shall be a Battle Royale 4! I just haven't decided when yet.

Now, if anyone has any feedback on the game (like what classes need improving and stuff like that) now is the time to say, so Battle Roayle 4 is just a little bit fairer. (As fair as a game that is mostly based on luck gets, anyway)

Get rid of ninja. Increased init is alright, but all the other classes either cause damage or prevent it, which is almost always better. Cleric heals and Neg controls another player, so they count as well towards this.

Have no idea what to replace the class with though.

And great game everyone. Epic ending.

I was sorta rooting for Bookworm though since I stole his heal earlier.

Well, ideally, I'd rather not get rid of a class. But I would agree that the ninja's ability is not very useful compare to the others.

So I'm thinking this would be a suitable adjustment:

Ninja: First Strike: This is the same as a regular attack except that it will always go first (Initiative 99)

Thoughts on that?
Also, does anyone have any suggestions for a new class?

@Rein: I can't be opening registration until I'm done tweaking things here. :smalltongue:
