I'm all too aware that Mage Priest isn't suitable for favoured souls, shugenjas, and the like, and not really suitable for sorcerers either. With that in mind...

Chosen Sorcerer
"Oh yeah! I'm awesome!" / "In the name of Pelor, eat fireball!" (delete as applicable)

A Chosen Sorcerer is, as the name suggests, either a sorcerer who discovers the gods have a plan for her; a divine spellcaster who has discovered, possibly late in life, the spark of sorcery in her blood. Well, usually sorcery; the class requirements allow bards to get in, it's just that bards will be a little gimped compared to sorcerers in this class.

To qualify to become a chosen sorcerer, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.

Skills
Knowledge (arcana) 8 ranks

Spells
Able to spontaneously cast both arcane and divine spells.

Special
Must not be true neutral.

Class Skills

The chosen sorcerer’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Decipher Script (Int), Knowledge (all skills, taken individually) (Int), Profession (Wis), Sense Motive (Wis), and Spellcraft (Int).

Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier.

Class Features
All of the following are features of the chosen sorcerer prestige class.

Hit Die
d4

Weapon and Armor Proficiency
Chosen Sorcerers gain no proficiency with any weapon or armor.

Spells per Day
When a new chosen sorcerer level is gained, the character gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in any one arcane spellcasting class he belonged to before he added the prestige class and any one divine spellcasting class he belonged to previously. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. This essentially means that he adds the level of chosen sorcerer to the level of whatever other arcane spellcasting class and divine spellcasting class the character has, then determines spells per day and caster level accordingly. If a character had more than one arcane spellcasting class or more than one divine spellcasting class before he became a chosen sorcerer, he must decide to which class he adds each level of chosen sorcerer for the purpose of determining spells per day.

Chosen One: A Chosen Sorcerer is an immense investment for a deity or alignment, far more than a favoured soul or even a mage priest; seeing even one heralds momentous change, and the price of losing such a tool is high. Once she has begun taking levels in Chosen Sorcerer, her alignment at that time becomes her sacred alignment. She may not simply change her sacred alignment; even if she finds a new divine patron, or becomes utterly devoted to a new alignment, changing her sacred alignment requires a rebuild quest as outlined in Player's Handbook II.

True Spellcasting Power (Su): Well is it said that true power cannot be attained by mortals without divine aid. All spells cast by a chosen sorcerer of at least 12th level count as having a base caster level (before other features, like being a Wild Mage, adjust it) equal to the sum of all her arcane spellcasting class levels, all her divine spellcasting class levels, and all her chosen sorcerer class levels, minus one. So a 4 Shugenja/1 Sorcerer/15 Chosen Sorcerer has a caster level of 19 with both arcane and divine spells, and not a caster level of 19 with arcane and 16 with divine as would otherwise be the case.

Divine Arcana (Su): Once per day per spell level, a Chosen Sorcerer may cast a spell from her arcane spell list by expending a divine spell slot of the same level, instead of an arcane spell slot. Also, once per day per spell level, she may cast a spell from her divine spell list by expending an arcane spell slot of the same level (instead of a divine spell slot). For all effects that care about the difference, like an ur-priest's spell resistance, a spell cast from an an arcane slot is an arcane spell while a spell cast from a divine slot is a divine spell, regardless of what spell list it originally came from.

Metamagic Fuel (Su): A Chosen Sorcerer may spontaneously apply one (and only one) metamagic feat to any spell she casts, as if she was a sorcerer, without increasing its spell level. To do this, she must 'lose' a spell slot (arcane or divine, prepared or otherwise) of a level equal to the level the metamagic feat would adjust the spell by. For example, she could cast maximised cure critical wounds by sacrificing a 3rd level spell slot. She may do this once a day at 3rd level, plus once more per two class levels - until she reaches 13th level, wherepon she may do it at will, limited only by her spell slots. She may not use this ability to cast spells that would normally be beyond her capability. For example, a chosen sorcerer that can cast 8th level spells would not be able to use Metamagic Fuel to maximize a 6th level spell because she can't usually cast a 9th level spell.

Doublecast (Su): A 2nd level or higher chosen sorcerer may, as a full-round action, cast an arcane spell and a divine spell in the same round, provided neither requires more than a full-round action to cast. However, she may not take any other action during this round - not even a 5-foot step or a quickened action. If a doublecast is interrupted, use only the higher spell level to determine the Concentration DC. If a chosen sorcerer fails the Concentration check to concentrate on a doublecast, both the spells he was trying to cast are wasted. A chosen sorcerer may doublecast once a day at 2nd level, 3 times a day at 6th level, and 5 times a day at 10th level. A chosen sorcerer of 12th level may doublecast as often as she likes, limited only by her number of spell slots.

Wings (Ex): A chosen sorcerer of 14th level gains wings, as the favoured soul class feature. If she later reaches Favoured Soul 17th, she's either epic, mad, or more likely both.

Triplecast (Su): Once (and only once) per day, when doublecasting, a 15th level chosen sorcerer may choose to cast a third spell that does not take longer than a full-round action to cast. This accrues no special penalties unless the triplecast is interrupted; concentrating on such a work is a lot harder than concentrating on a doublecast. Add the levels of all three spells in a triplecast together to determine the Concentration DC required to not be interrupted while triplecasting.

Not a Dead Level: You're getting spellcasting progression in two classes at once. Stop complaining.

Ex-chosen sorcerers: A chosen sorcerer who loses her divine spellcasting power, or grossly violates the requirements of her chosen alignment, loses her metamagic fuel ability, her wings, her "true spellcasting power" ability, and her ability to doublecast. If she cannot cast divine spells, she cannot take further levels in Chosen Sorcerer; either way, she can only regain class features by atoning.

You might want to remove the metamagic-takes-a-full-round restriction to let them use Quicken (maybe call it Really Blurry Hands? :smallwink:) and bump everything up to fill the (not a) dead level. Other than that, looks good.

Really Neat. Will post comments to help improve it.. Much better than original.

Change the name of Really Blurry Line to something Like Divine Arcana.

Change Not a Dead level to Godly Decree. The Gods say this isn't a Dead Level, so believe us it's not. You gain 2 gp. Happy?

Maybe I don't want to let spontaneous casters quicken spells. :P On a serious note they'll be throwing around Doublecast like candy, so quickening spells is hardly a priority for them, and I specifically went back and ensured that their Mage Priest cousins can't quicken spells during doublecast.

Gaining 2 gp breaks Vow of Poverty, so I'm not putting your suggestion in. :smalltongue:

That's contingent on not having Asmodeus for a DM, though.

Having VoP characters lose the vow because they touched gold is not only against what is actually says in the BoED, but no different than having a paladin fall because they just gave gold to a begger, but the beggar is evil.

If you had Asmodeus as a DM, you wouldn't fall for gaining gold--he'd almost tell you you fall, but reconsider at the last minute, and do this every time you gained anything valuable, leaving you stewing in terror every time you pass by something of value. That's more his style.

Mephistopheles, then. :smalltongue:

This brings up an interesting question (that probably deserves its own thread)--what would various iconic creatures' DMing styles be? *goes off to make a thread*

EDIT: *comes back* Discuss here.

True Spellcasting Power has some copy/paste issues you probably want to fix.
