I was just wondering. I listen to them pretty regularly. Most people don't seem too very much, though there was a pretty good turn out at their concert i went too a few years back.

I know most people in this particular subculture aren't really into that sort of music, but maybe they are.

Oh, for the record I’m only 20 years old.

I am just a poor boy,
though my story's seldom told,
i have squandered my resistance,
on a pocket full of mumbles,
such are promises.

that would be a yes (26)

Another "yes" here. The Concert in Central Park took place in 1981, when I was 10, and my Dad bought the album. I can sing every song on it without needing printed lyrics. :)

Moonsinger's school choir is currently learning "Scarborough Fair", too.

I most definitely do listen to them, they are my favourite group.

I am a Rock
Bridge Over Troubled Water
Sound of Silence
You Can Call Me Al
A Hazy Shade of Winter

Those would probably be my top five, but its a really tough choice as they have so many great ones.

Cecilia
Homeward Bound
7 O'Clock News/Silent Night
Mrs. Robinson
The Boxer
...and many more.

Oh man, the 7 O'clock News/Silent Night is by far one of the cleverest juxtapositions of two things I’ve ever heard. It was amazing when I first heard it, and I’m still wowed by it today

Definitely. These guys bridge several generations, from my parents to my kids.

Add my 2 cp worth to the list of favorites:

Punky's Dilema
At the Zoo

I think I sense a profile adjustment in the works!

Thanks for this great reminder of some of the best music around.

Makin' love in the afternoon
With Cecilia up in my bedroom
I get up to wash my face
When I come back to bed
Someone's taken my place

Celia - You're breakin' my heart...

Of course! You can't be as addictied to oldies music as I am and not listen to Simon and Garfunkle.

Some of my favorites are Cecilia and I am a Rock, but it's very hard to pick favorites and it all depends on mood.

As a youth, my (vinyl) copy of "Bookends" was one of my very most prized possessions.

I didn't think it was possible to play a record until you wore it out. I was wrong.

My better half and I have a 300-disk CD Jukebox. 9 of the 300 discs are S&G.

I have always loved their music, and always will.

Vinyl is how music was meant to be listened to.

And musical harmonies are the best kind of musics. Simon & Garfunkle; Seals & Crofts; Peter, Paul & Mary; Crosby, Stills, Nash & sometimes Young.

When I was just a lad of ten,
My father said to me
'Come here and take a lesson from
the lovely lemon tree:
Don't put your faith in love, my boy,'
My father said to me,
'I fear you'll find that love is like
The lovely lemon tree.'

Lemon tree, very pretty,
And the lemon flower is sweet,
But the fruit of the poor lemon
Is impossible to eat.

Hello darkness, my old friend,
Ive come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of
A neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one deared
Disturb the sound of silence.

Fools said i,you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you.
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon God they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the signs said, the words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.
And whisperd in the sounds of silence.

Yes, and i just copied and pasted these lyrics, but i do know the song and i listen to it all the time,

so thats a yes... im 14..

I'm 23 and prefer celtic and classical, but I do have a soft spot for the oldies.

I've listed to a bit of their stuff, though mainly only because I heard it on the radio and liked it. My favorite is Sound of Silence of course.

If "Call me Al" is the one which goes like "(something something) my bodyguard, I can be your long lost pal.", then yes. I haven't really actively sought their music, but it's easy on the ears, and I like mostly pre-90s music.

Strangely, there's something about them that I don't like. Maybe it was just the mp3 quality or something, but I listened to it and...wow, it made my ears physically hurt. The music was nice, but I had to stop listening because I felt like my ears were about to bleed. A shame. =/

I cannot search through the savory section of my spices without "parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme" (as sung by the aforementioned) running through my head.
They used to be one of my favorite groups, but I agree with previous posters - some of their songs can be disturbingly depressing.

You Can Call Me Al - Paul Simon

A man walks down the street
He says why am I soft in the middle now
Why am I soft in the middle
The rest of my life is so hard
I need a photo-opportunity
I want a shot at redemption
Don't want to end up a cartoon
In a cartoon graveyard
Bonedigger Bonedigger
Dogs in the moonlight
Far away my well-lit door
Mr. Beerbelly Beerbelly
Get these mutts away from me
You know I don't find this stuff amusing anymore
If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty when you call me
You can call me Al

A man walks down the street
He says why am I short of attention
Got a short little span of attention
And wo my nights are so long
Where's my wife and family
What if I die here
Who'll be my role-model
Now that my role-model is
Gone Gone
He ducked back down the alley
With some roly-poly little bat-faced girl
All alone alone
There were incidents and accidents
There were hints and allegations

If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty when you call me
You can call me Al
Call me Al

A man walks down the street
It's a street in a strange world
Maybe it's the Third World
Maybe it's his first time around
He doesn't speak the language
He holds no currency
He is a foreign man
He is surrounded by the sound
The sound
Cattle in the marketplace
Scatterlings and orphanages
He looks around, around
He sees angels in the architecture
Spinning in infinity
He says Amen! and Hallelujah!

If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty when you call me
You can call me Al
Call me Al

*Shudder* that song, can creep you out if you listen to, and think about the lirics, and the music only enhances the effect.

I love them (though I am a huge fan of "oldies" music) and I'm only 15 :-X. The Beatles, S&G, etc. are my favorite groups (along with Rammstein, The 69 Eyes and Ra). I'm extremely atypical for my age, but they're a really good band regardless :P. Can't name any songs offhand, as I'm about to pass out, but I'll try to remember to edit this post with some good ones.

My favorite Beatles Album has to be the White album. Around thirty to fourty dollars for two cds, and worth every penny.

Yeah, I like S&G.

What has age to do with it? Is it that people are pointing out that they weren't alive when S&G were recording? I wasn't alive when Stravinski was writing, but then neither were most of the people at his concerts today.

Simon and Garfunkel will be liked by someone until English is no longer spoken, I suspect. That's what happens to classically good music.

I think it's a kind of solidarity move, to remind older posters that "their music" won't die out with them, and to let posters in our own age range realise that there are alternatives to the manufactured rubbish put out today(although I do sometimes like said rubbish, but I have my own standards. :P ).

I have every album they have recorded, all of Pauls, and Garfunckles solo work, all the books of written music for all the work they have done, and I also perform their work frequently. (I play guitar). I learned to play listening to their music and Peter, Paul and Mary, the Limelighters, The Kingston trio and other.

I can sing most of their stuf (Pauls part, Arts is too high for me)

I was brought up listening to them all over the place :)

I grew up on the stuff. My mom was an honest-to-God, went-to-Woodstock, protested-the-war hippie (til she had me and my sister)--I knew S&G and Peter, Paul and Mary better than nursery rhymes. I still really like them both. I have the entire S&G collection, minus some of their live recordings, on my iTunes.

I love S&G!! (I'm 22 btw)

My mate and I reckon that S&G have done a song to describe everyone.

He's I Am a Rock and I'm The Sound of Silence, though my favourite has to be The Boxer - It's just a quality tune, nuff said.

In memoriam:

BARD.
They say that Yokyok Yikyik is the quickest and the best -
If you mock his silly accent, he will run you through the chest.
Out to catch a murderer, in grand flamboyant style,
He is everything a man should be, though rather short of guile -

HALFLING.
And I... I badly want to kick
His posterior to next century, 'cause that would be pretty slick.
But this spell won't let me stick
Daggers in him with a 'squick' -
Make him dead and make it quick -
Yokyok Yikyik!

My Brother got me a Simon and Garfunkel GH CD for my birthday. It was one of those albums where I already knew half the songs but found out that I liked the other half as well, but I have a very diverse taste of music so that happens a lot.

They sang better together than any other artist so it's dissapointing when you think of all the even better music (If you can imagine) they could have come out with had they not broken up.

I, also, listen too, and heartily enjoy, many a tune by Simon and Garfunkel, and I am a lad of 22. I also know that many of the people I have know over the years have enjoyed them as well.
