I cant seem to figure out the price adjustment for magic items with charges. I need to figure it out because I want a Belt of Battle with more than 3 charges per day and a Third Eye of Clarity with more than one use per day. If someone could explain how the formula works and give me an example that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Check the DMG, towards the back of the magic-item section. I'm pretty sure it's got the basics on how to handle charges per day, and you should be able to alter the math and cost from there.

... putting aside, of course, the fact that most of the stuff in the MIC is undercosted and broken to begin with. :smallamused:

Yeah I checked the DMG and i found the formula but divide by(5 divided be # of charges) doesn't make sense to me.

It's not that hard, just basic math.

Let's say you have something which mimics a spell like teleport -- the boots of teleportation. They normally have 3 charges per day. So, you've got the base cost:

spell lvl (5) * caster lvl (9) * 1,800 gp (because it's command word, like casting the spell) / (5 divided by 3 uses/day = ~1.67)

Thus:

= (5 * 9 * 1800 * 3/5 (inverse of dividing by 5/3)
= 81,000 * 0.6
= 48,600 gp (close enough to the book value of 49,000 for government work)

I don't know specifically which spells or what the caster level is for the belt of battle -- a Google search turned up a cost of 12,000 gp. However, given that it's got 3 charges per day, you should be able to extrapolate that the "base price" should be dividing that by 0.6. 20,000 gp for a 5-charge/day version?

5 charges = 20,000 gp
6 charges = 24,000
etc.

Simple enough?

Thanks that clears it up for me and with the examples I can do other items by myself.

Note:5 charges is the same cost as unlimited uses. For Belt of Battle, you would deserve DM-smiting for even considering an unlimited version, but for other items it may be relevant.
