One book I've been meaning to add to my 3.5 collection for a very long time is the Spell Compendium. I've finally tracked down a nice cheap copy online, and I'm eager to fork over the dough.

One issue prevents me from doing so however. I've read the book before (my roommate had a copy), and seen it in book stores. The cover always looked like this:

Whereas the inexpensive one I found online looks like this:

Both are clearly official WoTC products. Both claim to be for edition 3.5. Even the page count seems to be the same. So are they simply two different printings, with different covers? Are there any differences? Should I buy???

You want the top one because it is more complete, and is a great book.

But the page count is the same. How is it more complete? Did they use a smaller font?

The second one's cover was the art that was originally shown. It was changed to the first one shortly before release.

Thanks for the responses, guys. It would seem that Gralamin is correct. Both books have the same ISBN, and even a minor change to the text would mean a different one, so I conclude that they are indeed the same book.
