Well, I've decided to create a "Final Boss" for an NWoD campaign, this one being the Babylonian Archdemon Pazuzu.

Like any good Final Boss, he needs a good leitmotif.

For this particular request, I need two themes for two forms-his human form, and his true, half-divine one.

Theme number one should be dark and menacing, impressing just how powerful and evil he is-like say, To The End Of The Galaxy from SRW@3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wMO0-Oy6e0).

The second one should be energetic and heroic, because this is a fight to save the world, and to give the sensation of being in the center of a hurricane (the eyewall, not the eye). My example: Megalith-Agnis Dei from Ace Combat Distant Thunder (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLqnTEIEY64).

While this isn't a requirement, I would also like it if the songs were related in some way. My examples, for instance, both are opera-ish,

Granted, it might not be exactly what you are looking for... but the game it comes from is awesome and two of the songs reference storms. in the title! You can't go wrong!

All from Baten Kaitos, by the way.

Call of Ktulu by Metallica (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWGOEWdV13M) would be a decent menacing one, even if their misspelling of Cthulhu (which, from what I heard, was for copyright reasons) is atrocious.

Both from FF9. Can't go wrong with Nobou Uematsu.

Can't go wrong with Nobou Uematsu.

Personally I prefer Motoi Sakuraba (who, yes, is the composer of the songs I linked).

Still, both are excellent.

You need real music, not MIDI files from old games.

I recommend Apocalyptica:

Also try the Diablo 1 music for dark, brooding background music, which was done with real instruments. It's a little too subdued to be an obvious theme, but it's quiet and creepy.

I'm not sure about FFIX, but the music I linked is fully played on real instruments.

I'm not sure about FFIX, but the music I linked is fully played on real instruments.

FFIX music was, too, but it all had to get compressed to fit on a PS1 disc. I'm pretty sure it's in MIDI format.

Either that, or JRPG music always sounds awful.

How about Ride the Lightning by Metallica (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uebInqG1pJI) for the Heroic song? (I suggested this one because I thought the lyrics suited an evil Storm creature.)

Time to play my Community role as the naive youngster and suggest Fury of the Storm by Dragonforce.

Not much sense for an actual villains theme, but a good "Yay we win" song for the PCs, perhaps.

This one might be appropriate - but it's iffy because it's pretty specifically Norse >.>

Gods of War - Manowar (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj15NEdwB1c)

Really you could stop the whole thing at the 2 minute mark and have a perfect "Build up" for the Storm Demon form imo >.>

Another option (this one could potentially even suit the human form; though it's going to depend again, on specifics)

War - Judas Priest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQXJOL6s43E)

And yes, the video is hideously cheesy lol <T_T>; The song itself though has a good "Boss Fight" feel >.> imo

The intro to this song reminds me of FFVI's Decisive Battle. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9cFAdAp010)

I suggest Metallica's Call of Ktulu before the battle, and Ride the Lightning during the battle.

For your heroic battle theme, you have to use Symphony X - Eve of Seduction (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WamoXQ1Wigk). The opening riff is boss battle music.

The Call of Ktulu is a good choice for the menacing theme.

There is only one spell for a storm demon.
Scorpion's "Rock You Like a Hurricane."

Like 6 other songs listed so far also involve storms or weather of some kind. :smalltongue:

As for the boss theme, it might not be, what you are looking for, but this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QoAM0Kl-50&feature=channel_page) might be interesting especially from 2nd or 3rd minute. Musics gets progressively stronger toward the end. It still is rather suited better for the battle as well as this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhZeJAUERBI&feature=channel_page).

More manacing from the same movie, would be this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5ngFHobtoA&feature=related) (starting from about 1:30).

Other then that, i would recommend checking Akira's soundtrack - some of the tracks are really scary.

Hi

Not sure if I've even heard of most of those already listed, but the best one's are probably literally centuries ahead..............

Ride of the Valkeries (Wagner) [Apocalypse Now - assault on village]
O Fortuna (Carl Orff) [The Omen, an Old Spice advert]

Don't forget - provoking Human emotions through music & the spoken word isn't exactly new.

Cheers

Alright, I'll drop another contender in the ring.

The 9 minute song 'The Lighting of the Beacons' for both. Starts very oppressive, and rather Minor in tune, before picking up with the heroics in the middle. Your Player's are likely to recognize it, if they have seen the Peter Jackson LoTR movies, but the scoring for those movies was (for the most part) done very well.

Well, since its Pazuzu, you could just go with "Pazuzu" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEl_6g9yHy0).

But my personal favorite "boss battle" music is this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCQYQ8Yo4Gs).

Something without lyrics is a must though, since they tend to be distracting.

Time to Raise the Cross (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCZtf3hKPBM&fmt=18) or A Place In The Sun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjM3mdtw1B0&fmt=18) for the menacing.

Finish the Promise (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vk8MaVo5VpI&fmt=18) for the heroic.

The upside is that since they're all related themes, they flow into each other.
