Wow, I saw this thread I wanted to say he just is... Then I clicked it and VOILA, it's been said...

Uh... Well, he's not played by William Shatner.

10. if kirk got trapped alone in his ship while terrorists tried to steal trilithium he'd get lost. Picard just kills them.

11. He plays the flute. :D (Well, it's structured more like a recorder, but...)

12. I'd have no issues doing what Picard ordered, as he keeps his crew informed and involved in the discussion - whereas Kirk explains nothing and relies on his alledged charisma...

13. Picard didn't cheat on the Kobiayshu Maru test. He wouldn't have to. He's gotten out of plenty of no-win situations on his own.

Comrade Gorby: Reason #1 Sisko is better than either Kirk or Picard - he would have made sure this thread was in the right forum. ;)

Reason #2 Sisko is better than either Kirk or Picard:

4 Words: Child of a God.

If you think Sisko is so great, why don't you make a thread to that effect.

That's what I did!

7. He's a cool Frenchman! :o

Who can't do a French accent to save his life [or any other accent besides British, for that matter]...

...Not that I dont' agree that Picard>Kirk. But Patrick Stewart himself is overrated [good Shakespearean maybe, but in all the roles I've seen him in, his character hasn't changed from Captain Picard v6800.]

Seriously. Ahab should not be equal to Picard+slight Angst.

15.Picard had to deal with Q and the Borg. Kirk had to fight...Klingons?
16.Picard become the friend of a god-like creature (Q); And yes friend, otherwise why would he come to picard when he was turned human?
17.Picard is smart enough to face weird temporal things that Q caused (see the last episodes)

(Also I can't see why anyone would defend (Especially) Archer or janeway, Sisko maybe, but he wasn't that good IMO)

I never watched Voyager, so I wouldn't dream of defending Janeway, but I would certainly defend Sisko, as DS9 was my favorite Trek series.
Archer, eh, I would only defend him out of Quantum Leap nostalgia.

Let me get one thing straight here--Picard is my favorite Star Trek captain.

That being said, Star Trek: Voyager is my favorite Trek series.

Blasphemy, you say?

I say, nay!

Star Trek: Voyager just struck me as being a lot more adventurous than most of the other series. Say what you want about the other crews, they all had the support of the monster that is the Federation behind them (except maybe Archer, I never watched Enterprise so I don't know). The Voyager crew were stuck way out there in the Delta quadrant with no one to help them but themselves. They were faced with the dilemma of integrating two clashing crews as well as trying to maintain their morals in an uncharted region of space. They were constantly dealing with alien species not even glimpsed before. The only enemy they shared in common with any other Trek was the Borg, which BTW are the best Trek villians ever. Also, as they were always trying to find shortcuts home, they tended to have the kind of "weird science" stories I love.

I only wish I could find it on TV.

I hated voyager. The acting felt terrible to me, and I couldn't empathise with any of the characters. My personal favourite was DS9, and I'd follow Sisko into the gates of hell. He and Kirk are tied for my favourite captains, even though Spock is my favourite character.

I could never get into Voyager, despite the fact that I love the Borg. Though I've heard there were some plot holes about torpedoes appearing out of nowhere when they were supposed to run out or some such.

18. Their adversaries. Picard proves the value of humanity to a god-like being. Kirk gets his ship hijacked by a fat-ass smuggler.

ST: Voyager = Gilligan's Island

Every episode has them trying to escape their situation and get back to the world they know. But you know this can't happen because it would end the series.

Kinda short circuits any tension before it can even be built.

Also...the "thirsty space men" from season one were so asinine that I could never respect the writers again.
