I'm sure this has been brought up many times, but shouldn't Miko and the two paladins Shojo sent to Lirian's gate have broken their oaths? They performed actions that involved themselves with the other gates, isn't that a violation of Soon's oath? I apologize in advance to those of you who have had to suffer through the repeated posting of topics such as this.

We don't know exactly what the content of the oath was. From what Hinjo said, with the Azure City gate gone, the oath is dissolved. It would seem logical, then, that by the terms of the oath it ceases to apply to each other gate that is destroyed, too.

They can go to the gates and investigate, possibly finding information about the culprit. But actually seeking out the gates and actively looking like Shojo did seems to be against the rules.

This raises the question; how did the paladins not know that Shojo was not following the oath?

As was noted in the crayons of time: Setting up some monitoring spells is okay to make sure everyone is okay.

Also, there's the facts that after it's been destroyed, they're free to see them. What affects one gate could very well come to destroy another. As was the case with Lirian.

I heard that Rich say that it was actually very likely that the Sapphire guard could have investigated the gates if Shojo just told them about Xykon, following the logic that if he almost captured one gate, he could easily capture their's.

The only reason he didn't was because years of Improved Paranoia made him use deception impulsively, even when he didn't have to.

No such statement is made. He merely says that Shojo could have tried that. He makes no estimate on what the chances of success were, and on the available evidence, there was distinctly little chance of convincing then to check on the other gates. Now there might have been an indirect success instead. One of the paladins might have asked "what if he attacks here?", and while they would likely be overconfident, they might have gone for the needed extra protection that could have held the city.

Rich is author. If he tells us something about his story, then it is the absolute truth. If he says that something will be possible, then it will be possible, no matter what a fan of his says.
