View Full Version : Music For A Battle With A Living Weapon (IN SPACE!)

Well, as you very well know, I have a series of ideas for campaigns running around in my head at all times. While I never seem to get around to them, I was thinking of an old idea of mine, with the PCs being space pirates who use anime-style mecha. After reading up a bit on Spelljammer, I had my interest rekindled, as well as having an excellent Climax Boss idea-a Space Witchlight Marauder. For those of you wondering what they are, imagine if the Angels from Neon Genesis Evangelion were manmade weapons designed with the express purpose of annihilating all life on a planet...and the ability to manufacture more Angels who themselves could make more Angels.

I, being the music geek that I am, decided a confrontation like this needed appropriately apocalyptic music-both because it sounds awesome, and fitting as I plan on taking a lot of inspiration from Xenogears. For a Marauder, it is even more fitting because they were first created using the technology of an ancient civilization that, in all likelihood, were not very nice people.

And what better music for a Xenogears-inspired game then that of it's spiritual sequel? I give you Godsibb (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjPWTEtuv74), from Xenosaga III!

So, any other ideas?

A theme used for another living weapon. The Arrow of Destiny. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R08uWoKp7-w) I actually prefer this version to the newer one in SRW OGs because its drumbeats sound less synthed.

Aslan Cross, you win the Internet for such an amazing suggestion...!!!

Yes.

Too bad there aren't any other suggestions...

Although there might be now that this is bumped.

Baten Kaitos music. Four different songs (the first one has two linked together). There are more. Most of them are as awesome as these.

Apocalyptic enough for you? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdMhTL5bZrs)

I'm not suggesting an SRW theme, for once.

If you want something more orchestral, you could try The Final Decision We All Must Take (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQBi2IIMmpQ&feature=related) from Evangelion 2.0. Especially around 1:05.

So much awesome music... I feel like Baten Kaitos is getting overshadowed, and all it had going for it was it's music (and a cool battle system, and great art, and voice acting so terrible it had to be heard to believed.)

For the space theme:

I mean, sure, it's a Disney flick, but the music's definitely worth it.

For the Apoc feel (edging on hopeful, mind you):

There are a bunch of versions out there.

I'd go with Open Your Heart by Crush 40 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEzXFuYN89k) or Supporting Me from Sonic Adventure 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLwZ9sDbDyk) depending on the overall tone of the battle. Alternatively, a Placebo song called Battle for the Sun could fit, but it's pretty much hazardous to your health to listen to it due to how bad it is. The Bitter End by Placebo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl3oxPw8Qxk) would work as well (ironically I suggested this as BGM on another thread earlier).

Thanks for uploading those versions. I'd suggest the original one, except that it's a bit too 16-bit and too short for a climatic final boss battle in a traditional RPG.

The Doomsday Zone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRfXcniN3kk&fmt=18) (Sonic 3 & Knuckles) - faced paced, good for a running battle.

Sonic 3's final boss (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgdZ76w00D4&fmt=18) - the slow start gives the players a chance to realize just how much trouble they're in, but it's upbeat enough to let them show off how awesome they are.

Sonic 2's final boss (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enC6oPmIoAU&fmt=18) - a little sadder than the previous two.

Falling Down (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UNTW8hFcpk&fmt=18) (Megaman Zero 4) - if the characters don't have a chance of surviving even if they win.

Hell yes Alpha OST!

I'm just going to second the suggestions I've made in the last 156 threads Leliel has made on approximately this same subject.

You know, a general "boss music for gaming" thread would make a decent sticky.

Oh yeah, World Revolution (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpWRlU0Cg_Y) is also a good one for "fate of the world in the balance" battles against Horrors Cosmic.

Also, while I love Spelljammer and all that it has wrought, I still can't unsee Witchlight as Witchalok. Dammit, Penny Arcade...
