The link aggregator site Reddit has a new subsection (http://www.reddit.com/r/tipofmytongue/) specifically for those questions. I've posted here enough times to ask for this kind of help that I figure many might find it useful.

(If you've not used Reddit before, note that you will have to register in order to post a question, but it's free to do so.)

Useful, but hélas, no one has ever been able to figure out this one Korean (or Japanese dubbed Korean) cartoon I saw as a kid.

And... what is it about. Playgrounders never failed me in identifying a movie or whatever in the past.

It involved a slightly fanservicey blackhaired woman in a catsuit (literally), and an old man who had a grasshopper mech that could travel through time.

Yeah, playgrounders are pretty epicly skilled in that respect. Granted, my first ever request was FLCL, so it wasn't that big a deal, but I've seen people ID stories from a single, poorly written sentence. Color me impressed.

Is it Time Bokan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Bokan)?

Nope. :( Sorry. I see the grasshopper ship, but the woman there looks nothing like the one I remember.

Time Bokan got various incarnation, Original Video Animation, and a Movie though. So it still might be one of it's incarnation.

In the mean time, can someone find me the title of this... I think it's a classic novel? It's rather famous, but I can't remember the title for the love of my life.

It's originally european, that's for sure. It's about this boy that's bought by a travelling performer group that consisted of an old man, some dogs, and a monkey.

The old man become the boy's father figure later. Then the old man die and we figured that he's actually used to be a famous opera singer. The main character continues to travel, but his troupe slowly died one by one. But later we figured that he's actually the son of a wealthy family though, so it ended in a happy note.

It even got adapted into an anime.

This would have been useful when I was trying to remember the name of Old Man's War, but the Playground came through with that anyway.

Scouring the internet for half-remembered books/movies/tv shows is one of my favorite late at night hobbies, and I have never failed to find someone who could identify what the heck I'm babbling about.

My favorite recent example is a series from the mid 80s I was shown in school that was all about how awesome libraries are. It took place in the future where earth is invaded by some evil aliens called Wipers who seek to destroy information. The people of earth evacuate, but leave behind a hidden library containing basically every book ever written. A librarian accidentally ends up frozen in time for a century, while the Wipers take over.

Some childlike aliens called Users find her and seek to defeat the Wipers. She shows them how to use the library to do research so that they can accomplish their goal and then call the human refugees back home.

I loved it as a kid because it was so ridiculous. They really tried to have an epic SciFi storyline going on, but the characters would stop dead in their tracks every five minutes to explain how card catalogs and the dewey decimal system worked. Hilarious.

The problem was that I remembered the title wrong. For years I was convinced the show was called "Tales and Talismans" and was frustrated that the internet seemed to have no mention of such a thing ever existing. Someone else was able to point out that it is called "Tomes and Talismans". I was actually able to find the whole thing on Youtube! It makes great kitschy late night viewing.

Anyone else ever hear of this cheesy gem?

That sounds pretty cool--I'll have to look at it.
