In case you hadn't heard, Les Paul, one of the great guitar gods, renowned both for his technique and innovation, passed away this morning at the age of 94. Perhaps best known by the masses for his namesake, the Gibson Les Paul electric guitar, he was nevertheless an amazing guitarist. Though I didn't listen to much of his work personally, he inspired...probably every rock guitarist since his time. He continued playing up until the end, playing every Monday night at a jazz club in New York City.

He will be missed.

Ouch. that's bad news.
I just have to list some of the things guitarists owe him:
The Les Paul guitar, obviously
Multi Track recording
Echo machine

Also, he had some really fun songs, that have something to show for it today as well

It's a shame...

I saw the original Les Paul (guitar) one time. It was pretty cool.

I may be a Fender man myself... but I offer respects to one of the great innovators.

I found out not to long ago thanks to Questionable Content.

Frankly, I only mostly understand his impact on the world of music. If I could thank him for making the sounds and styles of music I love possible, I would.

Rest in peace, Mr. Paul :smallfrown:

I found out from Slash's facebook page. Much sadness ensued.

Rest in peace, Mr. Paul :smallfrown:

Actually, I think the whole "Les Paul' was his last name, not just the 'Paul'

EDIT: guess not, having just read the article on WP.

One of the greatest people in music died on the thirteenth... RIP
