I want you to select actors who you feel could perform to your satisfaction the roles of:

Roy, Durkon, Haley, Elan, Belkar, Varsuuvius (Androgenously!), Sabine (Assuming Nale is also Elan's actor), Xykon, and Redcloak. If you want to cast some of the other roles, like Shinjo, O-Chul, etc. Do those too.

For me I'd cast for an animated version...

Michael Rosenbaum as Roy, Christopher Eccleston as Durkon, Michelle Trachtenburg as Haley, while I have former doctors in mind David Tennant as Elan/Nale, For Belkar, Jason Marsden, Varsuuvius by Katie Cassidy, Xykon by Christopher Collins, Redcloak by Seth Green.

Shinjo by Christopher Lee, O-Chul by Keith David

As everyone.

Shia can be Yikyik. I think he'd make a smashing hat.

I've done casting for an animated version before. Here's what I came up with.

:roy: Brett Butler
:vaarsuvius: Tara Strong
:sabine: Cree Summer
:elan:/:nale: Billy West
:thog: Jim Cummings
:mitd: Chris Latta (sadly deceased)
:haley: Tress MacNeille
:redcloak: Maurice LaMarche
:belkar: Rob Paulsen
:durkon: Craig Ferguson
:roach: mc chris
:xykon: Frank Welker
:miko: Tia Carrere

You may not recognize every name on that list, but I can assure you that you've probably heard their voices tons of times and not been aware of it.

Yeah, I'm a cartoon junkie and actually memorize the names of voice actors. Because apparently all my other hobbies weren't geeky enough.

Shinjo by Christopher Lee

Uh, Shojo or Hinjo? Kinda similar names there...

Anyway, Christopher Lee is incapable of playing someone who isn't blatantly evil, so he's out.

Somebody who played the Doctor doesn't quite strike me as a Dwarf anymore.

That's exactly what I thought, but if he could combine some of this (http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/red/blue_pics/2007/10/11/ecc460.jpg) with some of this (http://www.tvscoop.tv/christopher-eccleston-heroes.jpg) and act serious, he could pull it off...

Well, For Eugene Greenhilt/Horace Greenhilt just got to be the Morgan Freeman.
And...Christian Bale would look so badass as Hinjo. Shojo is harder.

Michelle Yeoh would be cool as Miko and Zhang Ziyi as a Tsukiko.. Elan.....hard. Very Hard. Halle Berry as Sabine....HAhhaahhahah, Belkar:Jack Black! (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a8/JackBlack07.jpg) .....I can't get the Idea of the Andy Serkis as a Pompey or Redcloak from my mind..ARGH. Ian McKellen would also be good as Shojo..

Actually, getting someone who does a very good evil character to play Shojo is a good idea - he's supposed to be untrustworthy and antagonistic, especially after he drops the senility act. Gordon Liu would be great for instance (if Shojo could fight, anyway; he was Pai Mei in Kill Bill.)

Ooooh.

Now that I think about it I can see Christopher Lee as Shojo, but he'd have to look shifty and sly rather than overwhelmingly evil. People who had never heard of OOTS might just mistake him for the head mastermind villain behind the obvious undead abomination villain. Seriously, he hasn't got a Good track record. Hooray, alignment pun!

For Shojo I would like to see Jack Nicholson. I think Shojo needs an actor who is like him: just relaxed.
And for V I would prefer something I saw in "the gamers": two similar looking acteurs one female and one male. Has a nice and funny effect. You don't think a movie about oots would propagate being serious in any way? Why should the accomplishment be deadly serious if the content is the very opposite? Do it like Monty Pyton. They would be great as MiTD and the demon roaches (compare king arthur from the holy grail with the king of roaches)!

Belkar should be played by Danny DeVito, for sure.
As for V, Johnny Depp seems to be the actor that I would guess to be most capable.

Kulture
2009-08-15, 01:30 PM
Red Cloak should be played by Frankie Boyle.
I know he's a comedian rather then an actor, but it could work.

Belkar is a very difficult character to cast, especially now that we've got the CGI to not have to limit our potentials.
We need a pathological homicidal sociopath.
Denis Leary.
We've all heard his rendition of the ******* song.
Alternatively, there's always Jason Statham.

Robert Downey JR. as Roy? He did a damned good job in Tropic thunder.

Agreed on V and Depp.

Durkon should be portrayed by whoever does the TF2 Demoman voice.

I'm tempted to cast Jack Nicholson as Shojo.

If it is animated, Jeff Dunham as everyone. If not, just give me a second to find my old list...
here it is:
Roy- Will smith or Samuel L Jackson

Belkar- Verne Troyer

V- Tara Strong using a deeper version of her Raven voice. loose robes are a must.

Durkon- Hornswoggle.

Elan/nale- Neil Patrick Harris, apparently

Haley- Bryce Dallas Howard

Thog- Lou Ferrigno

Sabine- Halle berry all the way

Shojo- Chow Yun Fat

Hinjo- Jet Li

Miko- Lucy Liu or Brenda Song

Lien- Same as above

O-chul- Jason Statham

Redcloak- Sean Connery. You know it's awesome

Xykon- Jeff Dunham.

Roaches- also Jeff Dunham.

Tsukiko- Kristen stewart

Mitd- Matt Hill (voice of Ed on Ed Edd & Eddie)

Gary Oldman as Xykon.

That is my only suggestion, I just thought that everyone should know that it is the only truely reflective possibility.

Right. On. Especially if he played it halfway between Sirius Black and Norman Stansfield from "The Professional."

And I like the idea of Denis Leary as Belkar. Hearing him deliver the "sexy shoeless god of war" line would kill me.

While NPH as Elan/Nale is kind of appealing, I almost think he'd be better as the MitD.

How about Nathan Fillion as Nale instead?

Robert Downey, Jr.? Sure. As Redcloak. Play him almost like Tony Stark.

Laurence Fishburne or Omar Epps as Roy.

Ellen Page as Haley.

Ron Perlman as Thog.

Clancy Brown as O-Chul.

...that's all I've got for now.

Roy- Michael Clarke Duncan

Belkar- Warwick Davis

Elan/nale- Neil Patrick Harris

Haley- Rachel Nichols

Sabine- Halle Berry

Shojo- Chow Yun Fat

Hinjo- Jet Li

Miko- Lucy Liu

O-chul- Chuck Norris (For who else could capture the awesomeness that is O-Chul?)

John Rhys-Davies would be great for Durkon (and Gloin) but unfortunately he no longer seems interested in playing a dwarf:

Alan Tudyk as Elan/Nale was my choice. Or maybe Neil Patrick Harris. One of the two (maybe we can fuse them together or something)

Also, for some reason I see Belkar has Johnny Depp.

It's hard, because you need capable delivery of snark from every member of cast without totally killing the dramatic potential of the roles...

Zach Braff as Elan - brings the right amount of idiot sangfroid

I like Timothy Spall as Durkon, gives the stolid nature of the character just enough humour.

Tina Fey as Celia. Cloudcuckoolander here I come.

Adrian Lester (Hustle) as Roy. If he can bulk up for the role physically, he'd manage to straddle the comic and serious aspect of Roy admirably.

I tend to agree that Shatner as Shojo makes so much sense as does Tilda Swinton as V (although I can't remember her doing quite as much comedy as I would like).

Christina Ricci or Drew Barrymore as Hayley. Both can play untrustworthy types well (see The Opposite of Sex) whilst still remaining sympathetic. Drew Barrymore also has action movie experience, which is necessary for Hayley's dynamic character.

Having said that, I wouldn't mind Toni Colette as V or Phil Davis as Shojo.

Xykon... woo... tough choice. I'll pick Hugh Laurie, who would capture the bone-dry (no pun intended) humour of the character.

Redeye... James Spader... manages to be both bastard and likeable simultaneously.

Belkar... Adam Sandler. Can manage manic and dumb simultaneously and can also act (see Punch-Drunk love).

Belkar should be Jack Black, as then the role might actually be funny. Or maybe Jim Kerry, or Mike Myers. They're just the sort of large Ham, immature acting the role calls for.

The rock should play Roy. Or possibly Samuel L Jackson, though he's a little long in the tooth.

And Sean Connery is the only one who may play Durkon.

:durkon: Just a thick Scottish accent. (As a joke, you could occasionally give him "Clouseau Syndrome", aka, having an accent so thick that not even other dwarves can understand him).
:elan::nale: Alan Tudyk. HOWEVER, due to their different upbringings, they sound a little different most of the time: Elan's more upbeat and cheerful, like a little kid (but when he sings, he sounds like Robert Goulet), and Nale has more of the Jeremy Irons/Alan Rickman-style villain persona (except when he panics; then, it's like a blend of Don Knotts and "Weird Al" Yankovic).

:miko: the chick from firefly....urg whats her name?

I'm assuming you don't mean Jewel Staite (Kaylee) or Summer Glau (River). I couldn't see either of them in the role. Morena Baccarin (Inara) could probably pull it off, but most of the characters I've seen her play are rather reserved and dignified, which is pretty much the opposite of Miko in one of her holier-than-thou rages (read: 75% of the time). Gina Torres (Zoe) could probably do it, but she really doesn't look the part.

As for my own picks...

I liked someone's suggestion of Omar Epps for Roy. He's got the right amount of serious and snark, and it would make it even more awesome if Hugh Laurie was cast as Xykon.

I'm going to have to agree with the seeming majority and say Neil Patrick Harris for Elan/Nale. That would make me want to cast Felicia Day as Haley, but I've never seen her in an action role so I don't know how that would work out.

Hilary Swank or Johnny Depp could pull off the androgyny needed for V. Depp could make the role a lot funnier, but I'm not sure that'd be good for V.

Jason Statham could definitely do a good Belkar.

Mm... I could see Billy Connolly as Durkon. He's a Scottish standup comedian/actor. He played the father in both the Boondock Saints movies. He can do serious, he can do silly.

I think that's all I've got for now.

But I think Christopher Walken would make an excellent Xykon. I'm not sure why, but I just feel like it would be epic.

Nale/Elan definitely needs to be Neil Patrick Harris

Belkar should be Jason Acuña from Jackass. All it would be is a change from Jackass to Badass. The attitude seems like it would be a perfect changeover.

It's funny, for the longest time I didn't see this and wracked my brain to figure out how NPH could possibly look the part. But then I saw that episode of How I Met Your Mother where Barney has long hair and a goatee (in a flashback) and I immediately thought: "OMG! It's Nale!"

It totally works.

Just observe how much Jason looks like Belkar.

Let's see...
Celia has got to be voiced by whoever voiced Starfire in the Teen Titans cartoon. I can't hear it any other way.
And I agree with the idea of Tara Strong as V--perfect choice. XP
Also, there's this little voice in my head telling me that Grey Delisle would probably voice :miko:. Just a idea, folks.
...I can't really hear Belkar with a deep voice, though. I keep thinking that he has a high-pitched voice, just for the lulz. And it seems to fit, but that's just my opinion.

Ochu should be a doctored up Jason Stratham. . . Oh yeah!

Alright, if we're talking live action...

:roy: Anthony Mackie (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1107001/)
:durkon: Robbie Coltrane (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001059/) (LotR camera angles and body doubles needed)
:haley: Amy Adams (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0010736/) is my first pick, although I do like the choice of Michelle Trachtenberg as well.
:vaarsuvius: Chris Colfer (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3182094/) is about as gender-neutral of an actor that I can think of right now...
:elan:/:nale: Ewan McGregor (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000191/)
:belkar: Ryan Reynolds (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005351/) (LotR camera angles and body doubles needed)
:xykon: Bronson Pinchot (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001621/) (obvious skeletal cgi)

After seeing the Dungeons and Dragons movie, I'm going to have to go with Jeremy Irons as Xykon. I'm going to stab my brain with a pencil.

Fixed. :smallwink:

Hey, if we got Mark Hamil to voice Redcloak and James Earl Jones to voice Xykon...

Actually, Mark Hamill (as the Joker) wouldn't make a half-bad :belkar:...

What do you all think of Stephen Colbert as the Oracle?

Don't have them all, but here's a couple of ideas...

Roy - Djimon Hounsou
Elan - Ben Miller

I still like the idea of Michael Fielding as Vaarsuvius. If you've seen The Mighty Boosh, you'll understand why; if you haven't seen it, then do so ASAP.

Plus, like I mentioned about Elan and Nale, I'm sure they'd sound the same (being twins and all), just with different styles of speaking.

:elan: Upbeat, cheerful, very childlike. When he sings, his voice suddenly changes to a Robert Goulet/Barry White soundalike.

:nale: Talks like a character played by Alan Rickman or Jeremy Irons (or Phantom Limb) most of the time; you know, the traditional evil mastermind persona. When he panics, however, he sounds like a blend of Don Knotts and "Weird Al" Yankovic.
