Hi! I haven't been on for a long time but still been reading the webcomic (gack! the 31st is so far away...)

My friends and I started our own paranormal investigations team but we need to come up with a name. Buffy had the Scoobies and Mulder had his X-Files duo thingy with Scully. Then there's the pretty blunt and boring Ghost Hunters. We want our own unique moniker. I figured you guys would come up with some sweet stuff. Names please!

Ghost Busters. I don't think that's taken yet.

...Oh, wait. Um.

Nightwatch?
The Silver Bullets/Stakes/Crosses?

...I seem to only be able to come up with names that sound like silver-age comic book superhero groups at the moment...

Then there's the pretty blunt and boring Ghost Hunters.

Just to point out, they're actually called TAPS for Trans-Atlantic Paranormal Society, which is a bit cooler considering when taps is played.

Point I was trying to make is that you could do an acronym. There's a group around here called SPIRIT for Southern Paranormal Identification, Research, & Investigation Team.

Maybe you could be Southern California Anomaly Research & Exploration (SCARE) or something similar.

I second the Acronymosity motion.

Also, the Serpentine one.

Basically there's five of us and we want to "investigate" local haunts from Los Angeles to San Diego (and all that beautiful mileage in between). We're working on a website too. I like SCARE, heehee. Anyway, I'm kind of the outsider on this because I'm the only skeptic on ghosts and other supernatural entities (totally the "Sculley"). However, none of us believe in vampires, werewolves, zombies, that sorta thing, but we'd still investigate them. We thought we could maybe teach pretend courses on how to defend yourself from a werewolf attack, etc, like as a youtube segment. We've got all these rando ideas... But as for names, uh... they're pretty dumb. The Princess Brides? Blah...

The Princess Brides? lolwut? :smallconfused:

Aim for the brain stem.

Hmm, hard to say what would defend against werewolves without silver weaponry and...the ability to not get nommed on before bringing said weaponry to bear.

Vampires... depends on the flavor, really. Vampire flavor of the week, even...

Probably poor suggestions since I just finished work, but how about:

Spectral Branch?
Paranormal Eye (P-Eye)?
Ghostshoes?
The PHEDS (Poltergeist, Hauntings and Ethereal Detectives)?

Haha I really like these! Especially DOOM, because of the ominous connotation. Sounds like a league of super villains.

Hmm, I'm thinking something simple but snappy. How about the 'Gee Girls' - that would be Gee for Ghost.

If you run this as a sort of outreach thing, then you can be the Committee for the Liberation and Integration of Terrifying Organisms and their Rehabilitation Into Society.

I'd offer a cookie for the reference, but someone might get the wrong idea...

BTW, what movie, so I can add it to my list of stuff to watch while I should be paying attention in class?

Quincunx
2009-08-19, 07:45 AM
"Movie"? Book, yes. TV series, yes. Movie, not to my knowledge.

I'll leave the cookie but I'll take. . .the pizza. (American prudery. Can't beat it. What was wrong with just leaving it at "her"?)

zillion ninjas
2009-08-19, 01:33 PM
@Quincunx: I think you got it, but it's hard to be sure because you're being about as oblique about this as I am. :smallamused: And it was never a movie as far as I've ever heard, either.

Anyway, your prize is a Chicken Vindaloo (http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-make-chicken-vindaloo) dinner from one of the ship's vending machines. And a lager -- you know why.

Edit: Having received a PM that clarifies things, I declare that Quincunx has correctly named my reference from the Polymorph episode of Red Dwarf (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094535/). Coidzor was, of course, thinking of a very similar quote from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0261392/).

So... great thread derailment, or the greatest thread derailment? :smalltongue:
