Was just curious if anyone knows of a way to gain countersong without taking a level in bard?

The ONLY thing I can think of that might have something like that might be the Virtuoso PrC, but unfortunately my 3.x books are about 3 hours away, so I can't check.

rtg is right. Virtuoso (Cadv) gets Jarring Song at level 5, which can disrupt casting. You don't need levels in bard to start taking levels in virtuoso.

Hmm... was hoping for something more like a feat or skill trick.

Halfling Whistler (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/prc/20061121a) gets something similar, although I'm not sure why you'd want to take 6 levels of that as opposed to one level of bard.

Dwarven Chanter (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/prc/20061128a) gets Counter Chant at 4th.

Warrior Skald (RoF p. 187) gets Bardic Music (including Countersong) with only a 1-level dip. Requires Power Attack, Cleave, Concentration 6, Perform 9. Full BAB, though.

Spellsinger (RoF p. 185) might work, but it's not clear if you gain Bardic Music without taking any bard levels. Seems like Spellsinger X + Bard 0 > 0, so it should, and you get Improved Countersong at 3rd.

Oh, there's one other way that wouldn't involve taking class levels... polymorph or use Phylactery of Change (A&EG p. 135, 11200 GP) to turn yourself into a Grig. Now get your hands on a Master Fiddle (Savage Species p. 58, 18000 GP). You gain bardic music abilities (including countersong) as a 9th level bard.

Instead of polymorph, you might be able emulate a race (grig) with a UMD DC 25 check.
