Lagri, completely unaccustomed to the craft of stonework, bursts through the tunnel and into the throne room. He lays the teenaged militiaman on the floor and turns, watching the cavern for the pursuing specter.

"Vat is so..." Lagri turns to look at what had caught his companions' attention. The barbarian registers the rotting chieftain and his funeral display with a muted admiration of the stone masts raising the ceiling.

Pearl cautiously enters the room and stands by a pillar as she takes in the sights. She hears the rustling of small creatures, but otherwise, her companions are making the most noise as they enter the room. The chamber is obviously a burial chamber and the humanoid on the throne was the most important one in the room.

Hector is close behind Pearl, looking around in awe. Tygerlilly bounces up behind him and hangs on to his pant leg as he circles around the other side of a pillar. He follows Gneiss’ instructions and doesn’t touch anything, but Tygerlilly just has to touch a pillar.

Lagri hurries into the chamber and gently lowers Cobb to the ground. Rhys is behind him, hurrying up to check on Cobb. Lagri peers down the tunnel behind the group, but doesn’t see the enemy. He hears the same rustling of small creatures in the large chamber and the sounds of his companions. The dead humanoid on the throne is quiet and still and the sword gleams on his lap.

Gneiss calls out to Bryce and Kalrin as he approaches the throne, eyes wide, curious to know more about the person entombed here. He searches around the immediate area, but in this area, it’s pretty quiet. The skittering and rustling sounds seem to come from the far corner.

Bryce walks slowly forward, Gilthanas isn’t far behind him, as he examines the corpse. Bryce realizes this is very likely Kith-Kanan, prince of the Silvanesti. Gilthanas, one step behind him, confirms it with a whisper. Gilthanas is already kneeling on the second stair in deference to his ancestor. Kith-Kanan was well known for carrying the sword Wyrmslayer while he was alive.

Kalrin casts detect magic as he walks into the room. He slowly looks around, but only one thing catches his eye. The sword on Kith-Kanan’s lap, it glows with a strong aura of a magical artifact.

The others pile into the room, anxious to escape the confinement of the tunnel and the terror of the specter. They heave a small sigh of relief when nothing immediately jumps out to attack them. Everyone spreads out a little in the larger space. They stay away from the sides and the columns.

For now, there’s no sign of the incorporeal enemy.

Pearl glances over at her companions, clustered around the remains in the throne, and then down at the doors at the far end of the passage. Ultimately, though, she remains focused on protecting others from the predations of the ghostly pursuer. Her arms shake slightly as she holds her own greatsword at ready near the entrance to the chamber, and takes up a guard position.

"Everything all right? Remember, the last thing that we want to do is anger another spirit."

"I believe we're in the burial chamber of Kith-Kanan, the founder of Qualinesti," Bryce says, looking to Gilthanas for confirmation. "If I'm right, the sword would be Wyrmslayer, his magic sword."

Pearl smiles lopsidedly. She calls back over her shoulder, continuing to watch the walls.

"Well, given the reappearance of wyrms, having a wyrmslayer on our side would certainly be reassuring. Gilthanas, how do you think Kith-Kanan would feel about lending out his sword for the survival of the land he founded."

Gilthanas stands and makes a small religious sign with his hands to show respect for the gods and for his honored dead. When Pearl asks him about Wyrmslayer, he pauses for a moment. I’m not really sure, it’s been down here for centuries, but, weapons were meant to be used, not left to decay with the dead. I think that as long as a prayer was said for his soul and with the blessings from the Gods, it’d be all right. He still doesn’t sound very sure about it all and he’s reluctant to take it directly from Kith-Kanan’s hands.

Hector and Tygerlilly come around from the pillar and Tygerlilly immediately jumps up and runs over to the tall statues. She starts climbing the closest stone guardian, or at least trying to. Have you ever seen statues this tall before? Who do you think made them?

Gneiss moves silently to the far corner to investigate the sounds. The chittering and scratching sounds gets louder the closer he gets. When he gets close enough he can see that the far wall has collapsed and the sounds are coming from the rubble. Gneiss thinks there are probably rats and mice in the rubble, but there might be something more, he’s not sure. The double doors at the end are closed and they are engraved with a drawing of Pax Tharkas. The doors seem normal and if he pushes on them, they swing open a little.

The others cluster away from the walls and the dais with the remains of Kith-Kanan. Most of them are keeping a sharp eye out and there’s still no sign of the terror from the walls. Rhys is over helping Cobb as he tries to recover a little from the attack.

The knight places a hand on Gilthanas' shoulder. "I am unfamiliar with elven customs, but I would be happy to ask for Mishakal's blessings," he says. Stepping toward the corpse, he raises a hand in blessing over it. "Lady Mishakal," he prays, "we commend your servant Kith-Kanan to you care. May he rejoice with you, Lord Paladine, the gods of good, and all your faithful servants in the Dome of Creation. May light perpetual shine upon him as he rests in the warmth of your nearer presence."

He lowers his hand and bows to the corpse, saying, "Honored Kith-Kanan, we ask your understanding as we take Wyrmslayer from your resting place. Were our need not great, we would not seek to part it from you. But the dark armies of Takhisis stir, and her blackness threatens to overwhelm Krynn."

He reaches out gingerly and takes the sword from the corpse's lap. Holding it aloft, he prays once more, "Lady Mishakal, grant the one who wields this sword your blessing to protect those who need protection. May its name prove true as its bearer uses it to strike back against Takhisis and her foul worms."

He turns and faces his companions, cradling the sword in his arms. "Who will bear the blade?" he asks.

Bryce gets a warm feeling of approval from Mishakal when he invokes her name in his prayer to the gods. When he lifts the sword, it feels light in his hands.

The others in their party look on with awe as Bryce holds the ancient sword, none of them feel worthy to wield it and so defer to the others.

If no one comes forward, Gilthanas will reverently accept it, but only if no one else steps forward.

"It isn't a fair trade, but a warrior deserves to be buried with a sword," he says in explanation of his actions.

Lagri daringly moves closer to jab at the slug, he catches a piece of the nest instead, and his actions catch the attention of the slug.

Bryce dashes forward to join the fray, drawing his sword and shield.

Gneiss charges forward, reaching over the debris to stab at the creature. He can feel that he managed to strike it.

Kalrin still has the spell in his hands, but getting close enough might be a little difficult, maybe if someone drew it out of the nest?

Tygerlilly pops into the room and she immediately starts picking up rocks and rubble and flinging them at the Slug. She yells out, Have you ever seen anything so disgusting looking? Does anyone have any salt? All I have is bone dust and beach sand and I don’t think that will do very much!

Solon, Hamel, Rhys and Cobb set up a watch on both sides of the double doors, with Solon and Cobb on one side and Rhys and Hamel on the other side.

Eben and Gilthanas follow behind and towards the attack. Gilthanas draws his bow and takes up a position near the edge of the doorway. Eben has his rapier out by the time he enters the room.

The monstrous slug rears up after Gneiss wounds it. Its head swings around and it spits another round of acid, this time at Tygerlilly. She dances out of the way and yells at the thing that it couldn’t hit a flee, much less her. She reaches down for more rocks.

Gilthanas fires off another arrow, easily hitting the big target in the corner.

Eben follows Hector into the room and prepares to attack the slug.

With several targets within reach and maddened by the stings of their weapons, the slug moves out of it’s nest and tramples over Bryce and Hector, and almost over Lagri, ((Lagri gets an AoO, Bryce needs a Reflex – for ½ dam and a Fort save – for the slime/possibly paralyzed)), Bryce and Hector fall under the huge slug body and they almost feel smothered to death, but just as they think they can’t catch a breath, the slug is past, leaving them on the ground, gasping. ((dam:19)) Hector gasps out a breath and falls silent on floor, unmoving. The slug looms above the remaining people in the room, threatening them with its bulk.

Pearl sees the mammoth snail-thing bowl right over Hector and Bryce, and consternation catches in her throat. Whether it was luring them somewhere, or trying to escape, it was definitely not a good thing.

Pearl's bow drops to the stones with a clatter. She tugs her sword loose again as she dashes forward to slash at the big gooey underside.

Drawing her sword, charging straight east to attack.

AoO: Lagri stabs at the monster as it passes close to him, scoring a long slash on the slug’s flank.

Pearl charges forward, leaving her bow behind, after seeing Hector and Bryce disappear under the slug’s bulk. She brings Tally up for the attack and slashes into the underside of the slug.

Hector is unmoving on the floor.

Lagri readies against another attack from the slug.

Bryce feels bruised and beaten after being run over by the slug, but he avoids being paralyzed like Hector. He stands and redoubles his attack against the slug, adding to the tally of wounds on the monstrous creature.

Gneiss sets up a flanking situation with Eben and sneak attacks the monster with good effect.

Kalrin decides he’s a little to close to the creature that could crush him easily, so he backs off towards the wall.

Tygerlilly is still sneaking around the side for the attack. She comes up beside Lagri and stabs for all she’s worth, her dagger sinking deep into the creature’s flank.

Gilthanas fires off another arrow, hitting the beast’s head, Eben follows up, slicing deeply into the slug’s slimy flesh.

The slug lurches towards Lagri and he strikes the killing blow. Tygerlilly does a little victory dance as the gross slug slumps to the ground.

From the hallway there’s a scream and a flurry of activity echoes down the hallway.

Several members of the party rush back down the hallway. Lagri overtakes the others and is first on the scene. On the other side of the doorway, Cobb is on the ground and Solon is kneeling next to him trying to help him. Hamel’s shortsword is out and he’s looking wildly around, Rhys is doing the same. Hamel shouts out, It came out of the wall. We didn’t spot it until it was too late. The ghost thing attacked Cobb and he collapsed. Rhys looks very distressed, but he’s manfully looking around and holding his shortsword at the ready.

Back in the room, Gneiss is kneeling beside Hector, trying to get him to do something, anything. He seems to be paralyzed. Gilthanas comes over to assist him and looks him over as well, I’m not really sure what’s wrong, but he’s alive. Eben shakes his head as well.

Tygerlilly is clearly torn between the two exciting things, a scream from one direction and Hector in the other. Finally she tears off towards Hector and tries waking him up as well, still to no avail. She even shouts in his ear, but there’s no reaction. "All right, folks. If there's no way forward, we've got to head back. Eben, Gilthanas - do you think that you can carry Hector and his big stick for now? It was...an army. Dwarves, elves, men...dozens. Maybe more, depending how many were packed into those side rooms. And the ghost-figure was still dogging them.

Pearl's mind was whirling. How to deal with vastly greater numbers, with one of their strongest warriors still paralyzed?

"Gentlemen and Tygerlily, we need to form up a defensive line at this end! Tygerlily, we need you back here to protect us from the ghost behind us. Solon, Hamel - stay back from the doorway behind us, but keep an eye and SHOUT if you see the ghost. Bryce, do you think Mishakal will be able to help keep them at bay?

"The rest of you - blades ready! Form up two lines on this side of the doors. We need discipline, not heroes."

Sorry to go all Bossypants, but Pearl would be strongly recommending a defensive line at C3-D5. If the front line can take out zombies that rush us, the second rank might be able to ready actions to step forward and strike the next rank. "Me Fierst!" Lagri volunteers. He hands his magical spear to Rhys. The barbarian brushes past Eben and swings his halberd in a horizontal arc, just around the door and into the human undead's chest. The barbarian pulls the axe-head out with a jerk and look of satisfaction. Down the hallway, the moan of a clan's worth of dead steeled Lagri with its familiar chill.

Assuming the other doors in the hallway held similar opponents, Kalrin removes a scroll from his belt, calling to Tigerlilly, "Hurry little one, they're not looking to play." Once she's safe, he recites an incantation sounding slightly Terran. As he finishes, packed dirt forces it's way through the cobblestone in a defensive wall. Pearl starts organizing everyone, getting them formed up. Tygerlilly takes one look down the hallway and she’s bouncing back to Pearl, Sure Thing! I’m great at that! She pokes her nose down the tunnel they just came from. Pearl prepares to turn undead after they make an appearance.

Hector wakes up and wonders where on Krynn he is. He shakes his head and asks, What dragon ran me over? Eben sets him on his feet and steadies him for a moment as he pulls out his weapon with his other hand. Gilthanas hands Hector his treasured ranseur and he leans on it for a moment as he takes stock of the current situation.

Lagri takes off for the other side and he’s quick to attack the just emerging human zombie U11, but he just misses the undead creature.

Bryce puts Cobb down and draws his weapon while holding his holy symbol out as he prepares for the fight.

Gneiss slashes at the undead dwarf in front of him. He slashes it with his shortsword and hits, but misses with his off hand attack.

Kalrin casts a spell and moves the earth inside the room so it blocks several of the rooms and blocks the zombies on the other side of it from advancing on them.

Tygerlilly is busy staring down the tunnel, and anyway, zombies are gross and smelly.

Gilthanas and Eben join in forming up so they can help hold the line and defend against the zombies.

Rhys is holding his weapon up and he’s obviously afraid, but the sight of Bryce and Pearl standing firm, bolsters his courage.

The zombies begin to advance, step by step. The zombie in front of Gneiss attacks him and misses. The human zombie that Lagri missed, takes a step out of his crypt and attacks him and misses. The zombies are clumsy as they shuffle out of their crypts and towards the small group. They can’t all attack because there isn’t enough space to get through. Pearl attempts to turn some of the undead, but they seem to be unaffected.

Pearl is heartened by Kalrin's earthworks - even if they slow down the onslaught it might give them a bottleneck that they can form up. She was relieved to see Hector regain consciousness, and finds a moment to address him.

"Less a dragon than a giant sack of slime. We'll find you a bath later. Right now - are you well enough to support Lagri." If there was ever a time that the long reach of Hector's blade would be invaluable, this was it.

Despairing of her ability to affect these undead creatures, faint and fledging that her faith was, Pearl instead set down her lantern and stepped forward to support Gneiss. She murmurs as she steps up behind the dwarf.

"I'm right behind you, Gneiss. I'll try to hold off the ones coming from the side. You focus on protecting yourself from the press from the front."

She swung at the dwarf zombie emerging from the closest of the left side chambers.

Lagri eagerly attacks the zombie in front of him. His first attack almost takes it out, but his second ensures that the zombie falls at his feet, leaving the way clear to the next one.

Bryce attempts to turn undead, but they don’t seem to be affected by it. He straps on his shield as he prepares for battle.

Gneiss finds that U11 is down and out and he turns his attention on another zombie threatening him, but both of his attacks miss.

Kalrin stands back, watching and waiting for the right moment.

Tygerlilly is alternately staring into the darkness of the tunnel and the battle on her other side. She wants Pearl to say she did a good job of watching, but it’s getting harder and harder.

Gilthanas takes out his bow and fires off an arrow at E11. He hits the zombie and now E11 has an arrow hanging off his side, it doesn’t seem to be affecting him very much.

With U11 taken out, Eben defends Gneiss on the other side.

The others are at the rear of the group and will have difficulty advancing with everyone crowded into the small area. They’re keeping a wary eye on the walls around the group.

Pearl moves next to Gneiss and takes out D1 before it has the chance to attack Gneiss, leaving one more inside the tomb.

The zombies on the close side of the wall advance and single-mindedly attack whoever is in front of them. U1 attacks Gneiss and manages to scratch him with his longsword (dam: 2). D8 and E11 shuffle forward and attack Eben and Lagri and both miss their targets. Eben ducks under D8s attack and the zombie attacking Lagri doesn’t even get close to hitting him. E1 shuffles towards Gneiss and goes for the attack and misses and hits the wall instead.

The zombies on the far side are trying to shuffle forward and attack, but the wall is holding them back and they’re quickly crowding together on the far side.

Lagri, Gneiss, Hector and Bryce defend the wall. All four of them climb up and gain the high ground and get to the grim work of dispatching the seemingly endless horde of zombies that want to kill them. In the rear, the militiamen and Rhys guard the rear from the ghost and anything else that might want to attempt to sneak up on them. Eben is ready to jump up on the wall in case he’s needed. Pearl and Gilthanas send arrow after arrow into the horde, softening them up for the men on top of the five foot wall. Attack after attack after attack, a few of the zombie attacks make it through their defenses and first Hector gets slashed and then Gneiss. Several more zombies drop and more take their place, climbing on the bodies of their fellows.

The earthen wall is holding up fairly well, with Kalrin remaining in the middle of the group to keep it up. Another zombie makes it through Hector’s defenses and slashes him again. At Pearl’s command, he reluctantly climbs down and Eben takes his place and the killing of the undead resumes. Finally, they have to advance down the arms of the wall to get at the remaining zombies. All of these zombies have arrows sticking out of them at various points and they fall rather easily. No other zombie attacks make it through their defenses and by the time they’re done with the zombies in the hallway the fighters are feeling exhausted from the strain of the fighting. The earthen wall is beginning to fall apart and there are four more zombies behind those two doors. The whole room is filled with piles of dead zombies and the smell is horrendous. Even Tygerlilly doesn’t want to poke through the piles to see if there is anything interesting. She’s decided zombies are really not worth it. Anyone that is on the far side of the earthen wall will be knee deep at least in dead zombie…

As a kind of exhausted stillness creeps over the room, Pearl clambers up onto the earthen wall with the others. Flexing her hand back and forth, tight from the constant archery. Once she's content that none of the bodies are moving, she fumbles back to where Hector was resting, up against a wall.

"That was impossibly brave, Hector. All of you. But now...hold still."

Her still-stiff fingers raise to the side of Hector's head, where blood is matted from a zombie's mace. As gently as she can manage, Pearl spiders her hand around the wound, and focuses the last dregs of Mishakal's light into her fingers. The blood's oozing slows and stops, and though trails of the dried blood still form ragged tracks down the young man's skull, it's clear that he won't die today. Not of that, anyway.

Pearl passes a weary, filthy gauntleted hand over her face, thinking.

"Gilthanas, I'm sorry to ask this of you, but we're both nearly out of arrows. Could you pick your way through, and see if any that are, ah, out there might be salvageable? Better yet...maybe if Gneiss and I lend a hand, we can have a look through the little rooms they all came out of. Maybe the elves were buried with arrows. I don't know how usable the arrows would be, centuries later, but it's worth a look."

There are a few more zombies behind the blocked doors, otherwise, the ones on the floor are really dead and none of them are moving. He gives Pearl fifteen of them, and keeps slightly fewer than that for himself.

Gneiss makes his way down to the end, it’s easier if he walks on top of the dead and stays near the walls so he can keep his balance better. He listens first at the doors and inspects them. Gneiss as usual takes the lead, just outside of the ring of light around the party. Lagri and Pearl bring up the rear with everyone else in the middle. Eben takes on the job of carrying Cobb. Everyone is nervous and constantly checking everywhere along the walls. Kalrin has one hand in a pouch, ready to cast a spell if necessary and the others have weapons in hand. The large chamber they’re entering echoes softly with the sounds of their passage, quiet though it may be and puffs of dust rise with each footfall on the floor-here again is an area that seems not to have known the passage of a living soul in decades.

The passage gradually widens from the doors, but the true dimensions of the room are lost in darkness. A row of stately granite columns lines each wall about ten feet into the room. These are plain supports with no ornate carvings or unusual shapes, but they seem to have been constructed with great care. The fact that they a have survived the Cataclysm intact indicates that their builders were accomplished engineers. At the front, Gneiss finds lots of dust and columns, no crypts here. There are two sets of doors on the far wall.

As the last one in the room, Pearl turns to try and lock or block the doors, but there isn’t anything to keep the doors closed from this side.

Everyone squeezes into the area marked by the pillars. They seem rather reluctant to stand near the walls. They're not sure if the ghost is gone? Or just waiting for another victim. Tygerlilly sits down, her back against a pillar. She doesn't admit that she's tired, so she amuses herself by going through her pouches since it seems they're going to stay here for a minute or two.

Bryce offers to heal Hector and he gratefully takes him up on the offer. He didn't want to say anything before.

"We've been going for hours. I suppose that a rest is indeed called for."

Quickly, she rattles off a watch rota, based on the previous evening, and with special instructions to keep well back from the walls so that they'd have a chance to spot the ghost, should it come after them again.

As the group laid out blankets on the ancient stone and shared bread, Pearl found a moment to check in quietly with Bryce and Gilthanas. She glanced meaningfully at Cobb's remains.

"I'm...hoping you have more experience with this than me. I have heard childhood stories of the victims of vampires and suchlike rising from the dead. Do you think it's possible that we might face a similar problem with Cobb?"

Bryce thinks for a while on the possibility of Cobb rising to haunt them. He finally decides that it is possible, but that it depends on if the ghost that killed him is still out there. No one is sure if the ghost is truly dead or still coming after them, no one has seen it in a while. Gilthanas replies that he isn't sure what might happen with Cobb.

Tygerlilly ends up curled up next to the pillar. The others gather in the smaller inner area, glad for a rest. They accept their watch rotations and settle down.

Over the rest period (no one is really sure if it's day or night anymore) there are several fits and starts and alerts, but nothing comes of them. The ghost isn't sighted and there are a few noises from the other side of the double doors leading to the zombies, but Pearl blocked that route with a few of the dead and zombies are stupid.

Kalrin rests near Tygerlilly and he's busy studying his spellbook when she finally wakes up. She yawns and rubs her eyes as she looks around, Did I really fall asleep? I really didn't meant to.

Gneiss carefully inspects the door and listens for anything on the other side. Things are quiet and he hears his companions scuffing their feet on the floor and the sound of armor and weapons, but, he doesn't hear anything from the other side. The door looks like it's safe to open and it doesn't have a lock on it.

The door creaks a little as it opens to reveal a large, circular room. Here, as in the corridors leading into the chamber, the dust on the floor is thick and unmarked. A curious feature of the room is the column in the center, which slants to the side but climbs far out of sight above.

Everyone else crowds in behind, they look around with interest and seem very relieved to be out of that small corridor. So much better to be in a larger space where they can spread out a little.

Tygerlilly bounces in at last, Are we there yet?

Tygerlilly hops, skips and runs after Kalrin, glad to be free of the too small corridor, Really? Aren't you glad to be out of the hallway, it was just so boring! She runs her hands over the column in the middle, Isn't this cool! It's a giant chain?! What do you think it does? Why is it here? What is it holding? She tries to jump on it and hold on, but it's a little harder than it looks, but finally she gets a good grip and starts swarming up the chain. Finally something more interesting to do than walk along and inspect her companions belongings (which she already knows everything they have).

The column is a massive chain supported by a huge iron bracket sunk into the middle of the floor. Each link is as long as a man, and the iron bands forming the links are nearly a foot thick. The bracket in the floor is 15 ft across and nearly 5 ft thick. The chain rises in to the ceiling of the room (about 100 ft up)

Lagri saunters over to the giant chain. He looks up at the ceiling and steps forward into the lowest foothole available.

Tearing his eyes away from their attempt to follow the chain up into the darkness, Gneiss harrumphs. "I can think of one, Kalrin: this place was built by dwarves, and no dwarf ever born climbed up that to leave something interesting at the top," he says dryly.

He moves past the column and approaches the far door carefully. As long as people are busy fooling around with the giant chain, he can look over the next stage of their trip.

Lagri climbs up the chain right after Tygerlilly, it's a little easier for him because he's taller and it's easier for him to reach the next handhold. They climb 100ft up and at the top, the chain continues into the ceiling of the room through a narrow channel. Tygerlilly can probably fit inside, but Lagri will be to big to climb any further. Tygerlilly is already poking her nose into this new and interesting place. She calls down to Kalrin, It goes somewhere, it goes into the ceiling, I'm not sure what is up here though! Her voice echoes in the large room.

Gneiss takes the time to inspect the door at the far end and the most likely way out. It looks the same as the door they just came in through. He listens intently, but he can only hear his companions on this side and Tygerlilly's faint voice coming from the top of the chain.

There's an audible sigh from Tygerlilly, but she doesn't want to make Lagri mad at her, so she wiggles her way back out of the hole and anyway, it was dark and gloomy in there and she isn't really sure that it went anywhere interesting. She climbs down after Lagri, both of them easily keeping their balance and making it to the bottom in one piece. Well...that was fun, she wipes a few tendrils of hair back from her face, Where are we going now? She looks around, ready to go, Anywhere interesting? It was dark up there and, she shrugs, I'm not really sure if it went somewhere or not, I didn't make it far enough to tell.

Gneiss creeps quietly down the right hand side. Things are quiet and he notices that the walls are more rough hewn through this area and it doesn't look the same as the Sla-Mori walls did. After a while, he comes out in what looks like a cellar. It is drier than the musty and dank corridors they just left. There are hundreds of pounds of supplies here and he can smell a source of fresh water. The cellar at the widest point is 100 ft and the 40 ft the other way.
